Disney Casts Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in Live-Action Jungle Cruise

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as cartoons? An unbeatable box office combination. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as live-action middle-aged dudes on a jungle adventure? Hopefully an unbeatable box office combination. At least that’s what Disney is probably hoping. According to THR , they’ve cast Hanks and Allen in Jungle Cruise , a “big action-adventure movie with unique aspects that will make it more than just a straight-up adventure.” Unique aspects like animating Hanks and Allen as a couple of toys? No? Oh. [ THR /Heat Vision ]

Bad Movies We Love: Addams Family Values

Caution: This is not a bad movie. Yes, we’re one sentence in, and I’ve already broken a major Bad Movies We Love rule. Addams Family Values is perfectly cast, hilarious, and the best showcase of Joan Cusack’s insanity since she wore clown leper makeup in Working Girl . But Addams Family Values qualifies as a BMWL because it’s a freakishly dated ’60s sitcom making a go of ’90s family fare, an ooky onslaught of puns and one-liners, and a movie so ridiculous that its theme song is the Tag Team opus “Addams Family (Whoomp).” It’s a Bad Movie We Love because rational filmmakers would’ve never let it happen, but somehow this goofy riot prevailed. Thank God.

2010 Box Office Receipts: 3-D Surcharges Are Alive and Well

The year-end box office receipts are in, and Hollywood fell just short of last year’s record-setting $10.6 billion haul. While ticket receipts still broke $10 billion, overall attendance this year dropped a whopping 5.36 percent, making 2010 the second-lowest-attended year of the last decade. This drop, along with the fact that awful 3-D conversion of Clash of the Titans finished just outside the top 10, suggests that audiences this year were totally down with that 3-D surcharge. Also interesting is the fact that almost half of the top 10 films of the year, including the number-one ranked Toy Story 3 , were CGI animation. Watch your backs, bankable actors!

POSTERS: Will a Silence of the Lambs Comparison Help Toy Story 3 Win Best Picture?

Despite its stellar reviews and near universal approval, Toy Story 3 is still looking like a long shot for a Best Picture Oscar, and will likely end up settling for Best Animated Feature. But after these clever Oscar campaign posters, let’s at least give Disney some points for effort! The promos feature various stills from the film that bring to mind (sort of) previous Best Picture winners, from On the Waterfront to… Silence of the Lambs . Take a look.

Here’s a Roundup of The Nutcracker in 3-D Reviews That Mention the Holocaust

Expectations for The Nutcracker in 3-D weren’t terribly high to begin with. The film had been shelved for two years, given a reportedly awful 3-D conversion and it’s opening against Disney’s much-hyped Tangled . But according to the first reviews, it’s much worse than all of that. Yes, we’re talking about a misguided Holocaust allegory that apparently makes the prison camp in Toy Story 3 look like Neverland. Let’s take a look at some of the most scathing, Nazi-themed reactions to the film, which is currently ranking at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The characters will be coming back to theaters for more action, only this time in a series of shorts. The first one will play in front of this summer’s feature-length toy advertisement Cars 2 .

Friday Box Office: Eclipse Overshadows Airbender

The Sparkly Vampire Clan of Forks, WA easily topped the De-Asianed Trio of Heroes on Friday, as Eclipse pulled in more than $28 million on Friday night to add to their already sizeable $68 million opening day. That’s an impressive chunk of change that’ll buy plenty of promise rings and pre-torn jean cut-offs for the whole cast. Meanwhile, the Worst Reviewed Movie in the History of the World managed to sucker in more than $16 million its opening day, but look for that number to plummet as the weekend continues and the toxic word of mouth travels. The stalwart Toy Story 3 , the urine-soaked Grown-Ups , and the failure-flavored Knight and Day made up the rest of the Top 5. Check out the complete numbers after the jump.
