Blink-182 Might Tour With Kid Cudi, Travis Barker Hints

Blink-182 ‘definitely coming close’ to finishing album, drummer says. By James Montgomery Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge Photo: Cory Schwartz/ Getty Images NORTH HOLLYWOOD, California — On Wednesday, Travis Barker set long-suffering Blink-182 fans’ hearts aflutter when he told MTV News that the band’s new album would finally be finished in “June or July,” effectively ending two-plus years of speculation about the disc, their first since 2003’s self-titled effort. Of course, that announcement was also greeted with a fair amount of skepticism (sample joke: “June or July … of what year?”), but, from the sound of things, Blink might actually be in the home-stretch, as Barker explained. “Here’s the thought process for the album,” he said. “Build 20 songs, pick 12 we love, and then concentrate on those 12 songs until they’re done, and then our album’s finished … and it’s definitely coming close.” And all of that begs the question: Just what will the new Blink album sound like? We’ve already heard it described as “weird” and “expansive” , but Barker — who on March 15 will release his long-in-the-works solo album, Give the Drummer Some — was willing to go one step further. To him, the album sounds like the logical extension of everything Blink did on their 2003 album, not to mention all they’ve done since. “I think it’s where you would think Blink would be right now,” he said, “if you left off with our last album with us, and you follow each of our careers, and you know what we’ve done [since].” As if all that chatter about the new album wasn’t enough to get Blink fans excited, Barker had one more bit of information: There’s probably going to be a tour in 2011. “We are talking about taking Kid Cudi out for an amazing tour we may have planned for later this year,” he revealed with a smile. Blink-182 To Finish New Album By ‘June Or July,’ Travis Barker Says

Drummer tells MTV News that five songs are completed for long-in-the-works project. By James Montgomery Travis Barker Photo: MTV News NORTH HOLLYWOOD, California — At this point, you’ve probably heard everything the members of Blink-182 have had to say about their loooong -in-the-works new album, from their initial announcement that they were “in the studio writing and recording” in February 2009 and the first mentions of “Up All Night,” the new song they never ended up playing on their reunion tour , to Mark Hoppus’ promise to do “all I can to have a new Blink-182 album in 2010” and, finally, Travis Barker’s admission that the album wouldn’t hit stores until 2011. So you probably took it with a grain of salt when, earlier this week, Barker tweeted that the new Blink record would be out “this summer.” And we did too. So when we visited Barker in his NoHo studio — where he played us a handful of tracks from his upcoming solo album, Give the Drummer Some — we had to ask about the status of the Blink album. From the sound of things, well, summer is definitely in the cards. “I think we’ll turn in our album in June or July, honestly, and, I mean, the stuff’s awesome, ” Barker said. “It’s coming close, to the point where these are completed songs and they’re not going to change. These are album versions.” Barker said Blink have “five, pretty much, songs” finished for the album and added that its delay has had as much to do with his and his bandmates’ hectic schedules as it does with the way they’ve chosen to work this time around. “You know, it’s hard, because we would get home from a tour, and then Tom [DeLonge]’s side project would go out, his side project comes back, he’s back now, he’s ready to get in the lab, [and] I’m about to say, ‘Peace out, I’m about to do my thing.’ So it’s like, when we’re in a room together for more than a month or two, it’s gonna really happen,” he said. “I mean, up until the last album, every album was written in a week. All of us had ideas, we would come, we would get into a room, [and] we’d go, ‘OK, you want to write the album?’ And we’d write those songs, and then we’d record them the next week. Now … we all have studios, we all have the luxury of staying home and doing it, and we don’t have to get into a room to get an idea out or pay for a studio. So a lot of it’s going down. Like, we’re working in separate studios, just really kind of working on music.” For the record, yes, he realizes Blink fans have been waiting a very long time, but he promises that the wait will most definitely be worth it. “I wish I could play everyone the songs now,” he smiled. “Like I said, they sound awesome.” What are you expecting from the new Blink album? Travis Barker Says Solo Album Helped Turn Tragedies ‘Into Strengths’

Give the Drummer Some, his long-in-the-works solo album, is finally due March 15. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sway Calloway Travis Barker Photo: MTV News NORTH HOLLYWOOD, California — It’s not exactly breaking news to say that Travis Barker has been working on his solo album for a while now ( at least two years , by our count), nor is it much of a stretch to say that, in the time he’s been working on it, a lot has happened in his life, both good and really, really bad. From the plane crash that took the life of longtime friends “Lil'” Chris Baker and Charles “Che” Still in 2008 to the death of collaborator Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein the following year, Barker has been forced to endure more than his fair share of hardships along the way, but through it all, he’s maintained focus on just one goal: finishing that album. And, at long last, he has. On March 15, his Give the Drummer Some album will finally see the light of day, and when MTV News paid Barker a visit in his NoHo studio, he was definitely in the mood to celebrate — in his own, understated way. “It’s a big accomplishment for me,” he told MTV News. “It’s something that’s been in the making for a couple years now, and there’s been lots of bumps in the road along the way.” And, in a lot of ways, the album — which features head-whirling contributions by everyone from Tom Morello, Raekwon and the RZA (on the track “Carry It” ) to the Transplants and Slash (on “Saturday Night”), not to mention Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Game and Swizz Beatz on the proper first single, “Can a Drummer Get Some?” — helped him overcome the loss of his close friends and saved his life too. “I had to transfer those [tragedies] into strengths and just push through,” Barker said. “Once I started coming in here, little by little, making my way into the studio, and I could actually make music again, and I was able to think, be in the studio environment, be productive, that was a big accomplishment, and, you know, from getting out of the hospital and learning how to walk and survive without being on 20 medications and stuff … I never envisioned it being OK again. So it was a big thing for me, and knocking this album out was the number-one priority on my list.” Which is why, when he talks about the album, he does so in relatively hushed tones. It’s been a long voyage getting to this point, but finally, Barker has made it. And he definitely considers himself blessed to have done so. “Everyone on the album is someone I was blessed to come in contact at one point or another in my life,” he said. “That’s a pretty good way to describe how I feel about it too.” What are you expecting from Travis Barker’s album?
