Kris Allen: Injured! Expecting a Baby!

From breaking a bone to breaking major news, it’s been a busy week for Kris Allen. The American Idol Season 8 champion was hospitalized yesterday after a car accident, as the singer’s mother Tweeted a photo of her son in traction, including with it the following caption: “From Kris: he’s in a lot of pain, arm broke, may not play guitar for a while. Prayers welcome please! #headoncollision.” Allen is due for surgery today, but the artist’s mind may be elsewhere. He took to Twitter himself later in the evening and added: “Thank you @ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe.” Wait… what?!? Clarified Allen: “Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I’m having a lil baby. #gonnabeadaddy.” Hooray! We send our congratulations to Kris and we wish his arm a quick healing. It’s gonna be holding a newborn at some point in the next few months.

Zig Ziglar Dies; Motivational Speaker Was 86

Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker who wrote more than 30 books on living a balanced life, and who built a huge following over his long life, has died in Texas. He was 86. Ziglar, who had been suffering from pneumonia, passed away Wednesday at a hospital in the Dallas suburb of Plano, said his assistant, Jay Hellwig. With an aim at helping people achieve success in both their careers and personal lives, in addition to a focus on Christianity, Ziglar was a prolific speaker. He appeared at events alongside world leaders over the years, including several U.S. presidents and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. “Mr. Ziglar was the same guy behind the closed doors as he was preparing for his presentations to thousands of people that he was when sitting at the kitchen table,” Hellwig said. Ziglar started his fulltime career in motivational speaking when he was in his 40s. His first book, “See You at the Top,” was published in 1975, when he was 49. “He got saved at the age of 42, which means that he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior,” Hellwig said. “Ever since that day is what he said was the turning point of his life.” “The last 41 years of his life he lived fully with that as his mission. He also had the uncanny ability to make everyone he ran into feel like they were his friend.” A World War II veteran from Yazoo City, Miss., he went to work in sales for a series of companies, where his interest in motivational speaking grew. Ziglar’s company, which features more than a dozen speakers advocating the “Ziglar Way” in his vein, offers motivation and performance training. One of his many well-known books, “Confessions of a Grieving Christian,” was written after the 1995 death of his oldest daughter, Suzan, at the age of 46. Another daughter, Julie Ziglar Norman, co-wrote “Embrace the Struggle,” a book that described how his life changed after he suffered a brain injury 2007. In addition to his daughter, Ziglar is survived by his wife Jean, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage Monday; his son, Tom Ziglar; and daughter Cindy Oates.

Kelly Clarkson Slams U.K. Publication for Misleading Cover, Quotes

No one on the planet should be as famous as me. Doesn’t sound like something Kelly Clarkson would say, does it? Exactly, the American Idol champion Tweeted today. Clarkson has gone off on the U.K. Mirror ‘s Sunday Celebs edition for making her sound obnoxious on its latest cover, writing of the above quote and image, along with implications that she suffered through an eating disorder: “Just to clear up the absolutely wrong so called quotes from me, I have never had anorexia nor did I ever say ‘no one should be as famous as me.'” Kelly went on to explain what actually went down: “I said in the interview, when asked about fame, that I have no desire to be as famous as Britney or Madonna. I said that kind of fame was too much for any person and that I have experienced a portion of what they deal with and that I didn’t handle that well and I’m happy where I’m at in my career.” Sounds reasonable to us. And to fellow Idol winner Jordin Sparks , who Tweeted back at Clarkson: “tell ’em girl!” We concur.

Oliver Stone Labels Hurricane Sandy "Punishment" for Climate Change Ignorance

Oliver Stone has set his sights on both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. The award-winning director spoke to HuffPost Live yesterday and expressed extreme dismay that neither candidate has really addressed the topic of climate change in his campaign for the Presidency. “I was a little disappointed at the third debate when neither of them talked about climate control and the nature of the situation on earth,” Stone said, adding of Hurricane Sandy and its immense damage: “I think there’s a kind of a weird statement coming right after it. This is a punishment. Mother Nature cannot be ignored.” Of course, this “storm will pass” and “the campaign will pass,” Stone said. “But unfortunately the nature of this present world situation will not.” Stone, who just released “The Untold History of the United States,” has been very critical of the current administration’s continuation of many George W. Bush policies – but he added in the chat that he voted early and for Barack Obama in this election.
