New Couple: Seal Gets His Swirly Groove Back With Pink Power Ranger

That PANK! Seal has found him a new set of vanilla pasty cakes to chop down… Via US Weekly reports : Looks like Seal has moved on from supermodels to superheroes. The 50-year-old “Kiss From a Rose” singer — who separated from wife Heidi Klum last year — has been stepping out in recent days with actress Erin Cahill, best known for playing the Pink Ranger on the 2001 TV series Power Rangers: Time Force. On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the two were photographed side by side at the Venice Family Clinic’s 2013 Silver Circle Gala in Beverly Hills. Seal, dressed in head-to-toe black, posed with his arm around the 33-year-old Cahill, who had a wide smile on her face. A source tells Us Weekly that the actress — a guest star on the upcoming ABC series Red Widow — is a longtime supporter of the Venice Family Clinic and is especially committed to volunteering at children’s hospitals. She didn’t attend the charity event as Seal’s date, but she was seen having lunch with the crooner the next day in L.A. Seal has been spotted with a few different women since he and Klum — with whom he has four children — announced the end of their seven-year marriage in January 2012, but he has yet to be in a serious relationship (publicly, at least). Klum, on the other hand, has been dating bodyguard Martin Kirsten since last summer. We hate to state the painfully obvious but all white women are not created equal. Clearly. Good luck on your quest to replace your supermodel ex-wife. AP

Joaquin Phoenix Doesn’t Want Your Bull**** Oscar Carrot

Joaquin Phoenix has a collection of awards nominations and wins that many actors would look upon with envy, but he is calling, “bullshit.” The actor won applause at the Toronto International Film Festival for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson ‘s The Master and he even picked up a Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival last month (shared with Philip Seymour Hoffman ). But the actor said he thinks the whole process is the “stupidest thing in the whole world.” Speaking with Interview magazine in their latest issue about a wide-range of topics, the two-time Oscar nominee blasted the awards race, saying he’d like to stay clear of the machine, even as the current season – and industry – of awards goes into full throttle. “I’m just saying that I think it’s bullshit. I think it’s total, utter bullshit, and I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t believe in it. It’s a carrot, but it’s the worst-tasting carrot I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I don’t want this carrot. It’s totally subjective. Pitting people against each other . . . It’s the stupidest thing in the whole world.” Phoenix received Oscar noms for Walk the Line (2005) and Gladiator (2000) and has been all but anointed with another one this year for The Master . He’s also received many festival nods throughout his lengthy acting stint and even a Golden Globe for Best Performance for an Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for Walk the Line in which he played musician Johnny Cash. “It was one of the most uncomfortable periods of my life when Walk the Line was going through all the awards stuff and all that. I never want to have that experience again. I don’t know how to explain it – and it’s not like I’m in this place where I think I’m just above it -but I just don’t ever want to get comfortable with that part of things.”

Paul Thomas Anderson Not Angered Over Apparent Venice Award Snafu

If there is any disappointment or bitterness that The Master was set to receive the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival today, only for the top prize there to be “re-assigned” due to a rule limiting the number of awards one title can receive, then director Paul Thomas Anderson did not show it this afternoon at the Toronto International Film Festival where the film is having its North American premiere. Anderson along with actress Amy Adams and producer JoAnne Sellar spoke with reporters at the festival along with TIFF co-director Cameron Bailey. “It was amazing what happened in Venice. Philip [Seymour Hoffman] was able to go over there because Joaquin [Phoenix] and I have duties over here at this festival,” said Anderson. “And, it was amazing what they gave us. The best part was that they gave [awards] to both of the boys.” Anderson acknowledged that he was aware of the apparent controversy, but said he was satisfied with the prizes The Master received at the Italian festival. “I’m thrilled with whatever they want to hand over. I heard some of the scuttlebutt recently but I’m just thrilled with what they hand over. And that’s all.” Along with the Best Actor prize being split by Hoffman and Phoenix, Paul Thomas Anderson was awarded Venice’s Silver Lion for Best Director, while Korean director Kim-Ki Duk’s Pieta received the festival’s Golden Lion. Asked if he was disappointed he couldn’t be in Venice to pick up the awards personally, Anderson joked, “Through our studies on this film we’ve gotten to where we can do time travel. I’m actually at two places at once. I’m at the Pizza Hut and the Taco Bell.” Audiences in Venice and now Toronto are buzzing over The Master . Laura Dern also stars in the film along with Hoffman, Phoenix and Adams revolving around “drifters and seekers” in post World War II America. The film revolves around the journey of a Naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future – until he is tantalized by “The Cause” and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Anderson appeared to be a bit surprised by the buzz the film is generating, but said he is pleased. “I don’t know why the film is resonating. I’m not sure what’s going on. We were proud to show it, but for people to be gravitating to it in such a way, it just feels so gratifying.” “It’s a film you really have to think about and it’s part of the time we’re living in,” added Sellar. “There aren’t a lot of films out there at the moment like that.” Amy Adams said her experience on the set were not quite what she had expected going in, saying she was surprised by the leeway that she and her fellow actors were given. “I thought it was going to be very very serious, but we actually laughed a lot and had a lot of fun,” said Adams. “There was a lot of freedom and we were allowed to experiment and fail. But going into it, I thought it would be very, very serious.” “Over the years, Paul has become a freer director [and] more organic,” added Sellar. “For me and Daniel [Lupi], my producing partner, we were able to support his vision and make changes and go on the fly.” And now that Venice’s awards are history, chatter in Toronto is now already looking toward Oscar and The Master is getting plenty of buzz. Asked about the Academy Award conversation among TIFF attendees this weekend, Anderson said simply, “Great.”

Selena Gomez Exposes Her Yellow Bra

Selena Gomez arrived at the Venice Film Festival rocking a CND logo t-shirt. That is for some Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. I didn’t know she was so political. The only disarmament I care about is the disarmament of her yellow bra . No threat detected. It appears to be a frontal clasps. That’s going to require only one hand.

Maika Monroe Is A Hottie On The Rise

I’ve never heard of Maika Monroe but she’s in a new movie called “At Any Price” co-starring Zac Efron which is being premiered at the Venice Film Festival. I’m pretty sure I’ll never see this movie but judging by Maika’s cuteness factor, I know this is not the last time we’ll see her on Hollywood Tuna. Girl is damn cute.

The Iceman Trailer: Yeah Right, Who’s Gonna Buy Michael Shannon As A Killer?

Kidding! Michael Shannon was born to play oddball creepy-types, and I mean that in the best way possible. So his turn as Richard Kuklinski, the notorious contract killer from New Jersey known as The Iceman who killed for sport and for gangsters for three decades, seems fitting. Anyone else feeling curious pangs of sympathy for the Mafia hitman-slash-family man who claimed to have murdered over 100 men over the course of his “career?” Kuklinski grew up in the Jersey suburbs with abusive parents before beating a bully to death at the age of 14; it was his first murder. His double life as loving father and husband and ice-cold killer is one of those fascinatingly true tales (read the gory details here , literally) and Shannon is one of a handful of actors who could probably pull off the dichotomy. So I’m morbidly curious about The Iceman , even as the head shots and stabby glimpses abound in this first trailer. Shannon and his various period wiseguy hair co-star with Winona Ryder, James Franco, David Schwimmer, and Ray Liotta. Oh, also? CHRIS EVANS AS AN ICE CREAM TRUCK-DRIVING HITMAN NAMED MISTER SOFTEE. Worth the price of admission alone, no? Based on the book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer , The Iceman will debut at the Venice and Toronto film fests. [ Apple ]

Passion Trailer: Rachel McAdams And Noomi Rapace Get Down And Get Weird In SCTV-esque Clip

Watching the trailer for Brian De Palma’s upcoming film Passion ,  I get the feeling that he could be a fan of SCTV ‘s classic Whispers of the Wolf   Ingmar Bergman parody.  Yes, I know that De Palma’s erotic thriller is based on the late Alain Corneau’s final film Love Crime (2010 ), about two international business women locked in a power struggle —  but there’s something about Noomi Rapace’s vacant stare in the first scenes of the trailer that reminds me of the great Andrea Martin’s performance in the SCTV  comedy gem. (You can see both videos after the jump.)  And Rapace’s co-star Rachel McAdams strikes me as a more vulpine version of the also-great Catherine O’Hara. I couldn’t help but notice that both clips feature masks, by the way, although based on the contents of the sex drawer that gets opened in the Passion trailer, De Palma’s movie is going to be way kinkier than anything that ever ran on Count Floyd’s Monster Chiller Horror Theater. Here’s the trailer for  Passion , which is going to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and screen that same month at the Toronto Film Festival: Watch It on YouTube.
