The Rewind: ‘Glass’ Comes With A ‘Trigger Warning’

Source: iOne Digital, The Rewind / IOne Digital Video Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise return with another week of your favorite series, Global Grind’s “The Rewind”. Like we always do at this time, we’re giving you your much-needed dose of recap reality. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. This week, Landon and Franchise will be discussing the M. Night Shyamalan flick, Glass . The film is a sequel to the previous movies,  Unbreakable , which came out in 2000, and Split , which was released in 2016. It stars Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and of course, James McAvoy, who reprises his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within. Glass hit theaters on January 18, 2019, and was met with mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a mere 36% score while IMDB was more forgiving with a 7 out of 10 rating. Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise got to check out the movie and rate it for themselves. Knowing what you know about how hard these two are to please, what do you think they thought of Glass ? Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise also dig into the new Netflix series, Trigger Warning , hosted by Killer Mike. Trigger Warning hit the Netflix platform on January 18 as well. On the show, the Atlanta native uses various scenarios to confront important social issues and cultural taboos. The first season of the show is six episodes long and has already picked up steam on social media. An episode in which Killer Mike teaches a young grade school student about white privilege quickly went viral just hours after Trigger Warning was available for streaming on Netflix. Killer Mike uses nontraditional approaches to explore the human condition and examine the “what ifs” and “why nots” that limit how people operate in the world. Social media is already fascinated with the show but do you think Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise were feeling it? Our resident critics share their thoughts on the new show and let us know whether or not it’s worth the hype. Find out what they rated these topics and more when you press play on episode 29 of The Rewind up above.

Black History Month Almost Takes An L While Black Women Continue To Shine: This Week’s Winners & Losers

See the rest here:

Source: NurPhoto / Getty Black History Month was sooo close to losing this first full week of February. The racist ridiculousness was something serious.  But as the ancestors said before us, still we rise. Check out the losers for the week below, then hit the next page to find out who helped save what was left of Black History month! Losers People who don’t know what racism is Clearly, racism needs to get more airtime in school classrooms because it seems people still don’t understand the full weight of the phenomenon. The topic received a lot of attention this week starting with Liam Neeson who revealed that he once went looking to kill a “Black bastard” after his friend said she was raped by a Black man. Neeson explained himself on Good Morning America   and how he regretted his feelings at the time. However, he never once said that his actions and sentiments were racist. As a matter of fact, he went on to say “I’m not racist, this was nearly 40 years ago.”   Sorry Liam, that was racist. Find out why here. The non-acknowledgement of racism didn’t stop here, however. The next day, Neeson’s co-star in the movie Widows Michelle Rodriguez had the audacity to defend Neeson by saying: “Dude, have you watched  Widows ? His tongue was so far down  Viola Davis’  throat. You can’t call him a racist ever. Racists don’t make out with the race that they hate, especially in the way he does with his tongue—so deep down her throat. I don’t care how good of an actor you are. It’s all bullsh**. Ignore it. He’s not a racist.”   Father help us. I guess Michelle missed that unit on Black fetishization in her 5th grade history class. And guess what Michelle? It’s all tied to the one big family of… R A C I S M.   And finally, you’d think after think pieces, Twitter rants and Facebook arguments, people would understand that blackface is bad and also has ties to racism , right? Naw. According to a recent YouGov poll , only 58 percent of Americans believe blackface is bad. Meanwhile, Gucci is making blackface sweaters and current Democrat leaders, like Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam , are being pinned for their blackface past. *Sigh* Either  A LOT of teaching needs to be done or people just don’t care. Either way, racism is clearly still alive.

The Shiggy Show Is Cancelled: Shiggy Says He’s Done Shuckin & Shuffling For Our Amusement

Originally posted here:

Source: Prince Williams / Getty Shiggy has done one too many “In My Feelings” challenges and now the social media star says he is done dancing on command. Shiggy made the shocking announcement on his Instagram page. He posted a message saying, “Stop asking me to dance… I’M DONE”. As expected, no one in his comments really took him seriously. Many of his celebrity fans laughed off his plea. One follower said, “Nah bro, you gotta dance! At least do it for the kids”, to which Shiggy replied, “Nah, I’m done for real. Shit not fun no more. You could see it in my eyes.” For what it’s worth, Shiggy has been looking miserable with the on demand dancing for a while now. In a recent video, Harlem rapper Dave East demanded Shiggy dance on cue. At first, Shiggy attempted to play it off as if he didn’t hear him, but that didn’t stop the chants. Needless to say, Shiggy did what he was told.   Even social media caught on to Shiggy’s cries for help. they got shiggy dancing in Dave east IG videos and he just tryna chill pic.twitter.com/HjtYGENkXz — Freddy B (@FredBeezy561) January 29, 2019 I mean, he didn’t lie, you really can see the misery in his eyes. It’s almost like how miserable Chadwick Boseman looked when everyone had him saying “Wakanda Forever” every single day of 2018. Who suffered the most? pic.twitter.com/aJQ42Qlu8D — #HOUSESTARKHIVEHOE (@Cindtrillella) January 28, 2019 Shiggy’s decision to quit dancing shouldn’t come as a shock to his fans, though. Just a few days ago, on Instagram Live, he told his fans that he was going to call it quits and even blamed Dave East for making him realize how much he hates “shooking and jiving.” I guess no one believed him then, either. YOO SHIGGY said he Done done because of Dave East pic.twitter.com/02x9TfwlxL — OVO.Reh. (@Reha_Imperfect) January 30, 2019   It was all good a week ago, though. While at a game at the Barclays Center, Shiggy did the In My Feelings challenge courtside for the entire world to see. He looked happy enough on the outside. Who knew he was being tortured within, though. Then again, Black Twitter could see he was being manipulated by the masses. They wasted no time making memes. We can’t forget his Best Week Ever . So now that Shiggy has quit dancing, what do you think he will do?

Farrah Abraham Flushes Foe’s Shoes Down Toilet on TV

When we reported that Farrah Abraham would appear on Ex on the Beach , we warned that she'd be awful. What we did not yet know at the time is that Farrah would also be violent. After getting into a physical fight on last week's episode, Farrah continues the feud by flushing the other woman's shoes in the toilet. Gross. Farrah Abraham made waves on last week's episode when she stuck her nose into everyone else's business. Things came to a head — or, rather, to a crotch — when  kicked Nurys in the groin . Please do not do that for ratijngs, or for any other purpose except to save your life. Security swooped in and Farrah had a bit of a timeout, and this week's episode picked up where last week left off. (To be fair, both Nurys and Janelle also had to spend nights in hotels — good for  Ex on the Beach  for having a strict no-violence policy) This week, Farrah and Nurys confronted each other for an “apology.” In the mean time, remember those Free Farrah posters that the other castmates had made while Farrah went to court? (This was a court appearance over  Farrah's arrest for battery , trespassing, and resisting arrest in June of last year) Nurys tore down the posters. Rude, but … understandable. If Farrah's court battle seems like something that should discourage her from further brawling, you're not alone. Cheyenne Parker pointed out that Farrah was the last person who should be fighting people. “She's in a very precarious legal situation right now,” Cheyenne notes. “She probably shouldn't be kicking anyone right now.” As you can imagine, when Farrah found the torn shreds of posters, she took it very calmly. Just kidding! “Don't attack all of my amazing amazing signs that my housemates spent their time on making for me!” Farrah demands. “Disrespect me, disrespect my stuff,” Farrah warns. “You will not be respected and karma's a b–ch.” She flushes Nurys' shoes in the toilet, which is just extremely gross. “Don't threaten me; don't trip me; don't f–king attack me,” she cautions everyone. Farrah insists “I'm just staying away from literally everything, everyone and f–k 'em.” “I don't have to apologize,” Farrah insists to the camera. “Because I reacted like a normal human being,” she claims. Quick note: we are struggling to think of a single time that Farrah has reacted like a normal human being to anything, ever, in her life. Farrah continues: “But  better  than a normal human being, because a normal human being wouldn't have stopped f–king hitting her.” Even the show's voiceover points out that Farrah is out of touch with reality. And then we get to the “apology.” When she and Nurys do come face to face, Farrah quickly becomes incensed. “I apologize for you insulting me, for touching me,” Farrah very angrily and loudly tells Nurys. “And I'm the bigger woman,” Farrah asserts. “I'm the woman who knows what really happened.” Farrah then insists: “You're out of control!” Curiously, she is not saying that into a mirror. She then angrily walks away. When Farrah dismesses Nurys as “trash,” Nursy responds, speaking to Farrah's retreating back. “B–ch, you're the trash!” Nurys points out. “You kicked me in the vagina because I was having a conversation with someone.” Farrah, still walking away, is still trying to grasp the upper hand. “Get a hold of yourself, out of control groupie,” Farrah says. “She's still lying,” Farrah accused. “And a trashcan. She's a whore.” “I know I'm a bigger person,” Farrah asserts. “Do I need to apologize to someone who put that on themselves?” she asks. “Who called that for themselves?” “Who f–king deserves worse than what she got?” she asks, then answering herself: “No.” Yikes.
