This week, we’re highlighting the top 5 millennial film & TV stars whose work is most likely go down in Black history. We’re sure you have an idea of who you would choose, but let’s see what DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius say. In no particular order, our resident critics, Franchise and Landon Levarius, chose Lena Waithe as their first millennial star.  Lena is already well on her way to making black history. In fact, she made history in 2017 when she became the first Black woman to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Her Thanksgiving episode of Netflix’s “Masters of None” remains untouchable and she continues to create more and more content for the culture including “The Chi” on Showtime, “Boomerang” on BET, an upcoming series with Kid Fury coming to HBO and so much more. It’s a given that Lena Waithe will be creating more Black history in her career. The fourth Black millennial to make the list is Oakland’s own Ryan Coogler. Ryan has given us Fruitvale Station, Black Panther, Creed, he’s teamed up with Lebron James for the upcoming Space Jam sequel and he has much more on the way. When it comes to promising millennials in film that you absolutely must watch, Ryan Coogler is high on the list. He’s proven that he can direct phenomenal films and has no intentions of slowing down. It’ll be wonderful to see what other projects he comes up with in the next year. What other creatives do you think made our list? Press play on episode 31 of The Rewind to find out.

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind Welcome back, everyone and we hope you’re having a happy Friday! You know what time it is — it’s time for another episode of our weekly show, Global Grind’s The Rewind ! Just in case you’re new here, Every week on The Rewind , we get our experts DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius to discuss everything that recently went down in the culture over the last few weeks. Franchise and Landon take some time to explain what you may have missed out on, offer some expert insight and then when they’re all done, they’ll give them a rating of a 1-10. In case you have been living under a rock,  The Rewind  will always be here to get you right back on track.   On January 11, 2019, The Weeknd linked with French DJ Gesaffelstein to release their collaborative single, “Lost In The Fire”. The track serves as the second single from Gesaffelstein’s second studio album which is titled “Hyperion”. Gasaffelstein previously worked with The Weeknd on the tracks “I Was Never There” and “Hurt You” which dropped last year, so having these two link again doesn’t come as a surprise. The Weeknd had also been sharing photos on social media of him and  Gesaffelstein working in the studio so it was obvious that something was in the works. The song, though it’s only been out for a few weeks, has already had a bit of controversy. For starters, many believed that the track was about his ex-girlfriend at the time, Bella Hadid, and took a slight jab at his fellow Canadian artist and former colleague, Drake. The rumors were sparked by the first verse where The Weeknd says, ” “And I just want a baby with the right one/’Cause I could never be the one to hide one.” Many thought that The Weeknd was shedding light on Drake hiding the fact that he was a father from the world. How did Landon and Franchise rate the song? You’ll have to press play to find out.   This week we are also going deep into the movie world and discussing the film everyone is talking about, A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The movie dropped back in October but since then it has racked up a ton of award show wins and nominations. It’s obvious that the film was a hit amongst critics. It received a 90% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Both Landon and DJ Franchise were fans of the film and feel it lives up to the acclaim. What did they rate it from 1 – 10? Find out when you press play on episode 30 of Global Grind’s The Rewind above.

The Rewind: Michael B Jordan Delivers a Knockout Performance But Is He Able To Reel In An Award?

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind On this week’s episode of The Rewind DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius go in on Michael B. Jordan’s performance in CREED II. As we always do, The Rewind takes a look back at some of the most talked about trends in music, film and television and then catches you up on everything you may have missed. Then, once we’re done playing catch up, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius hook you up with their own personal rating of the subject. We do the hard stuff so you don’t have to. Creed II hit U.S. theaters on November 21, 2018. The film is about Adonis Creed, a professional boxer who takes after his world famous father, Apollo Creed, that was unfortunately killed during a match with a Russian boxer by the name of Ivan Drago in the 80’s. Ivan Drago and his son, Viktar Drago, challenge Adonis Creed to a rematch. With the opportunity to avenge his father’s death Adonis struggles with going against the wishes of his mentor Rocky or going with his ego and defending his dead father’s honor. Creed II smashed the box office. So far it’s done over $85 million in sales and only continues to climb. It scored an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, only being beaten out by Widows and Spider-Man: Enter the SpiderVerse. Creed II picks up from where its predecessor leaves off. Adonis is in a relationship, he’s a champion, he’s still being trained by the legendary Rocky Balboa and he’s navigating through life without his father. Many people who enjoy Rocky movies were also satisfied with both Creed I and II. The people loved the sequel but did our experts DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius? Also this week we’re discussing Amine’s new “Reel It In” remix featuring Gucci Mane. The track dropped on November 20th. The new track by Amine is a smooth one. The original version appears on the Portland artist’s ONEPOINTFIVE album. Both DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius can agree that the song is a hit with or without a feature but the addition of Gucci Mane worked perfectly. Gucci simply floated on the beat and it’s a great vibe overall. Landon and Franchise gave the track rave reviews but what will they officially rate the single? You’ll have to press play on the video above for the answer on that!

The Rewind Ep. 15: Teyana Taylor’s Album Proves She’s ‘Nobody’s Fool’ & You’re Gonna Love Her For It!

The Rewind Episode 15 On the latest episode of “The Rewind” , hosts Landon and DJ Franchise talk Teyana Taylor’s “Gonna Love Me” remix with Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, and Method Man that DJ Franchise “The Bully” can’t get enough of. Landon, however, is less than impressed considering that it comes with production from Kanye. On the flip side Landon LOVED Tyler Perry’s new film “Nobody’s Fool”—that Franchise says was absolutely horrible. “Tyler Perry keeps giving us this garbage, this trash. I don’t know why black people wanna go see this stupid a** movie. This movie was just horrible over all.” Ooop! Watch above, it’s THE REWIND!

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind Global Grind’s bullies, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius are back once again for another episode of The Rewind . Every week we get our experts to discuss the cultural happenings of the last week and then rate them from a 1-10. In case you have been living under a rock, The Rewind will always be here to get you right. Last week, Takeoff released his first ever solo project outside of the Migos. The album is titled “The Last Rocket” and dropped on November 2nd. Did he indeed take off? It’s been often said that Takeoff, although rather silent and less outgoing than his counterparts, is the better rapper of the three Migos.  Despite getting left off “Bad & Bougie”, Takeoff manages to hold his own. However, does being the better Migos rapper necessarily make him a great lyricist? DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius are super hip hop heads and they’ve got a lot to say. Landon actually enjoys the fact that Takeoff doesn’t mumble rap for the entire album, citing that “The Martian”, the album’s first track, is his favorite. While Landon, being the Southerner that he is,  is rocking with Takeoff’s latest effort, DJ Franchise is not feeling it one bit. The words “sucked” and “garbage” were thrown around a few times, actually. Landon and Franchise debate the Takeoff album and then fire off with their 1 to 10 rating. Find out what they had to say when you press play. Also, The Meg is coming to DVD very very soon. The film, which stars Jason Statham,  is about a rescue diver who has been recruited to save an underwater crew from a 75 foot long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon that was previously thought to be extinct but ends up attacking a deep sea submersible. The film hit theaters in early August and is now set to be released on DVD on November 13th. Do you think Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are excited to watch the film at home? The two have a difference in opinion once again. One person thinks the movie completely sucked and the other thinks it was great! Find out what they rate The Meg  and whether or not you should check it out for yourself when you watch this week’s episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind .
