Source: The Rewind / Global Grind Welcome back, everyone and we hope you’re having a happy Friday! You know what time it is — it’s time for another episode of our weekly show, Global Grind’s The Rewind ! Just in case you’re new here, Every week on The Rewind , we get our experts DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius to discuss everything that recently went down in the culture over the last few weeks. Franchise and Landon take some time to explain what you may have missed out on, offer some expert insight and then when they’re all done, they’ll give them a rating of a 1-10. In case you have been living under a rock,  The Rewind  will always be here to get you right back on track.   On January 11, 2019, The Weeknd linked with French DJ Gesaffelstein to release their collaborative single, “Lost In The Fire”. The track serves as the second single from Gesaffelstein’s second studio album which is titled “Hyperion”. Gasaffelstein previously worked with The Weeknd on the tracks “I Was Never There” and “Hurt You” which dropped last year, so having these two link again doesn’t come as a surprise. The Weeknd had also been sharing photos on social media of him and  Gesaffelstein working in the studio so it was obvious that something was in the works. The song, though it’s only been out for a few weeks, has already had a bit of controversy. For starters, many believed that the track was about his ex-girlfriend at the time, Bella Hadid, and took a slight jab at his fellow Canadian artist and former colleague, Drake. The rumors were sparked by the first verse where The Weeknd says, ” “And I just want a baby with the right one/’Cause I could never be the one to hide one.” Many thought that The Weeknd was shedding light on Drake hiding the fact that he was a father from the world. How did Landon and Franchise rate the song? You’ll have to press play to find out.   This week we are also going deep into the movie world and discussing the film everyone is talking about, A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The movie dropped back in October but since then it has racked up a ton of award show wins and nominations. It’s obvious that the film was a hit amongst critics. It received a 90% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Both Landon and DJ Franchise were fans of the film and feel it lives up to the acclaim. What did they rate it from 1 – 10? Find out when you press play on episode 30 of Global Grind’s The Rewind above.

Happy New Year! Global Grind is back with episode 24 of The Rewind , the very first episode of the year, and we’re doing what we always do — giving you your much-needed dose of recap reality. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. Without further adieu, let’s jump into this week’s episode. This week DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius discuss Tekashi 6ix9ine’s latest release, Dummy Boy . The debut album was originally slated to drop on November 23, 2018 but when Tekashi was arrested on a slew of felony charges, the release was postponed. However, the album ended up leaking on Tekashi’s website anyway and in a rush to offset the damage being done by the leak, Tekashi’s team released the album on November 27, 2018, four days after its initial release date. Dummy Boy featured the tracks  “Tati” featuring DJ Spinking, “Fefe” featuring Nicki Minaj, “Bebe” featuring Anuel AA and “Stoopid” featuring Bobby Shmurda. It debuted on the US  Billboard  200 with 66,000 album-equivalent units, of which 10,000 were pure album sales. It’s still up for debate whether it was the number one album or if it was number two behind Travis Scott’s Astroworld . DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius weighed in on Tekashi 6ix9ine’s debut effort after giving it about a month to sink in. Did they think it was worth copping? For Landon, not at all. He completely hated the album. For DJ Franchise, it wasn’t too bad. Press play on the video above to see how our guys rate the new album. This week, Franchise and Landon also discuss the new Jay Ellis film “Escape Room”, which hits theaters on January 4. The movie is about six strangers who travel to a mysterious building to take part in an escape room game where they’re asked to solve a series of puzzles to win $1 million. However, things become quite dangerous when what starts out as seemingly innocent fun soon turns into a living nightmare as each room becomes an  elaborate trap that’s part of a sadistic game of life or death. Do you think Landon and Franchise were feeling the film? Press play to see what they said!

The Rewind: J-Lo Proves It’s Never Too Late For Your Moment To Shine

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a joyful New Year, it’s time for a special Christmas edition of Global Grind’s The Rewind with DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius. So let’s get started, shall we? This week DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius do a deep dive into Jennifer Lopez’s new movie, Second Act , which hit theaters on December 21, 2018 and is directed by Peter Segal. The film is about Jennifer’s character, Maya Vargas, who is a Value Shop assistant manager and desperately wants a promotion for her 43rd birthday. With the help of her friend Zoe, played by Vanessa Hudgens, Maya Vargas enhances her less than stellar resume to match her street smarts and reinvents her life and her life-story for the job of her dreams. The film got a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes and The New York Times said that “Jennifer Lopez Deserves Better” but what does Global Grind think? Franchise and Landon dig into the movie and surprisingly when it comes to J. Lo’s acting, they’re actually impressed by her skill.  As far as her ability to act and portray a homely, minimum wage worker turned high level exec, Jennifer Lopez was able to execute the role flawlessly. DJ Franchise had a few things about the film that he wasn’t in love with. One of which was what he called the “Disney fee”, which you likely will get from most romantic comedies. He also feels that the film would have been even better if Jenny was actually from the block. Otherwise, according to our resident bully DJ Franchise, Second Act wasn’t half bad. Our two in house critics give their own review and drop a rating. Should you see  Second Act ? Hit play and we’ll let you know. Then, Franchise and Landon share their favorite all time holiday movie classics. Some are a little more “Christmasy” than others and at one point it gets a little awkward. Check out episode 22 of The Rewind above!

Source: Global Grind / Giphy Another episode of  The Rewind  is here and we are more than happy to give you your much-needed dose of recap reality. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. Without further adieu, let’s jump into this week’s episode. Today, we’re going to discuss Jada Pinkett-Smith’s web television talk show, Red Table Talk . The series, which broadcasts on Facebook Watch weekly, debuted on May 7, 2018. It stars Jada Pinkett-Smith, her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris, her daughter Willow Smith and often an additional special guest per episode. The show was created after a video of Jada Pinkett-Smith, her mother and Willow shared discussing issues each generation experienced regarding motherhood. The initial video went viral and since the inception of Red Table Talk , they’ve been nominated for a Streamy Award and a People’s Choice Award. The series has featured a number of special guests including Gabrielle Union, Toni Braxton, Tiffany Haddish, and Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Fletcher.  On June 13, 2018, it was announced that Facebook Watch had ordered an additional 13 episodes of Red Table Talk. The show has managed to become a viral sensation.  Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise also break down Trey Songz’s latest track, Jill (Sumn Real) on this week’s episode of The Rewind. Trey Songz dedicated the new song, which he released back in November, to Jill Scott’s now viral simulated microphone fellatio video. Despite the fact that the video is old and Jill Scott isn’t too thrilled about all of the new and unwanted attention it’s been getting it, she did compliment Trey on the song and said that she actually liked it. With everyone talking about who they think the king of R&B is and Trey Songz’s name definitely being in the running for some people, it’s nice to see the singer drop something brand new for the fans. Do you think DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius feel the same way? We find out on the latest episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind. Watch the full episode above and let us know your thoughts.

The Rewind: One Killer, 2 Padded Locks & A Slaughterhouse

Source: Global Grind / Global Grind Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are back with a special Halloween edition of Global Grind’s weekly The Rewind series. First, the fellas get into Netflix’s new series, Haunted , which features r eal people sitting down with their friends and family to share terrifying yet true stories from their past, recreated through chilling reenactments. Episode two, Slaughterhouse  featuring Tara Lynne and Sadie, is one of the fan favorites that has everyone talking. Most people want to know if what happened in the episode is even true. The story is about a serial killer grandfather and his grandchildren living in a house.  While DJ Franchise thoroughly enjoyed the series, Landon is skeptical about the authenticity of episode two. Find out how they rate the new spooky Netflix series.  Rapper Mick Jenkins has linked up with the legendary Ghostface Killah for a new single titled “Padded Locks”. The track appears on the Chicago rapper’s newly released project, Pieces of a Man , which got its name from the  1971 Gil Scott-Heron classic and comes two years after his debut album,  The Healing Component.  Once again, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius are on opposite ends when it comes to this subject. While one of them loves the new song and feels its a solid effort, the other isn’t sold on the track just yet. Was the song too lyrical that it went over everybody’s heads? DJ Franchise thinks so and the discussion gets heated. Find out how our experts rated this week’s release. To watch the complete episode of this week’s The Rewind, press play on the video above.
