Lala Kent: I’m 60 Days Sober and I Still Hate James Kennedy!

There was a time when it seemed highly unlikely, but believe it or not, the cast of Vanderpump Rules is growing up. Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright are engaged ; Stassi Schroeder is dating a guy who doesn’t seem like a colossal douche-nozzle; the Toms have made the leap from Lisa’s lackeys to Lisa’s business partners … But perhaps no one has taken as many steps toward full-blown adulting as Lala Kent. Back in September, we learned that Lala is engaged to film producer Randall Emmett , the man who was once derided by the rest of the cast as Kent’s adulterous sugar daddy. Make no mistake — Emmett is loaded — but it’s not clear that Lala is far more to him than a side-piece. We’re sure Randall’s career will recover from the film Gotti and it’s 0 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, and that he and Lala will snjoy many luxurious years together. But Kent’s biggest achievement of 2018 isn’t landing a wealthy fiance or cementing her place as the most down-to-earth, relatable member of the Vanderpump cast. No, her greatest accomplishment is waging a victorious battle against substance abuse. “Today marks 60 days that I’ve been sober and it’s been the best 60 days that I’ve had in a really long time,” Kent shared in her Instagram story today. “Thank you to my sponsor, thanks to my sober coach, people in my meetings that tell me to keep taking it day by day,” she said, blowing a kiss at the camera. “I love you guys.” The news comes just months after the death of Lala’s father . “I stayed dry this season, most of it, I didn’t drink just because I was so up and down with the emotions with my dad. … I was still kind of in a fog,” Kent said in a recent interview promoting the current season of Vanderpump. “So I think a lot of the stuff I see this season, I’m going to remember after I watch it, I was very foggy and just very emotional at the same time.” In a separate interview from earlier this month, Lala opened up about her decision to get sober: “My fiancé always says I have this sixth sense where I know when things have gotten to a point where they need to change, so I can’t really pinpoint one incident [that marked a turn to sobriety],” she told Cosmopolitan . “When I really came to the conclusion that I am in that zone of having a problem, I just said enough’s enough. I picked up the phone, I called this sponsor that had been recommended to me. It’s the best decision of my whole life.” Kent went on to reveal that her alcohol consumption was never about partying: Drinking for me was medication instead of celebration,” she told the magazine. “Instead of going and talking to somebody about losing someone extremely important to you, we turn to things to medicate. “I just want to make sure that I put my voice out there to say, reach out to someone, reach out to a grief counselor, partner with someone who can make you feel like you’re not by yourself and going completely insane.” Lala didn’t open up about her feelings toward her ex-BFF James Kennedy and his increasingly problematic boozing, but it’s become clear that she’s very much not a fan. (Especially after the way James skewered Gotti on Sunday night’s episode.) We commend Lala on opening up in such candid fashion, and we wish her all the best going forward. The Rewind: J-Lo Proves It’s Never Too Late For Your Moment To Shine

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a joyful New Year, it’s time for a special Christmas edition of Global Grind’s The Rewind with DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. So let’s get started, shall we? This week DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius do a deep dive into Jennifer Lopez’s new movie, Second Act , which hit theaters on December 21, 2018 and is directed by Peter Segal. The film is about Jennifer’s character, Maya Vargas, who is a Value Shop assistant manager and desperately wants a promotion for her 43rd birthday. With the help of her friend Zoe, played by Vanessa Hudgens, Maya Vargas enhances her less than stellar resume to match her street smarts and reinvents her life and her life-story for the job of her dreams. The film got a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes and The New York Times said that “Jennifer Lopez Deserves Better” but what does Global Grind think? Franchise and Landon dig into the movie and surprisingly when it comes to J. Lo’s acting, they’re actually impressed by her skill.  As far as her ability to act and portray a homely, minimum wage worker turned high level exec, Jennifer Lopez was able to execute the role flawlessly. DJ Franchise had a few things about the film that he wasn’t in love with. One of which was what he called the “Disney fee”, which you likely will get from most romantic comedies. He also feels that the film would have been even better if Jenny was actually from the block. Otherwise, according to our resident bully DJ Franchise, Second Act wasn’t half bad. Our two in house critics give their own review and drop a rating. Should you see  Second Act ? Hit play and we’ll let you know. Then, Franchise and Landon share their favorite all time holiday movie classics. Some are a little more “Christmasy” than others and at one point it gets a little awkward. Check out episode 22 of The Rewind above!

The Rewind: Michael B Jordan Delivers a Knockout Performance But Is He Able To Reel In An Award?

Read the original post:

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind On this week’s episode of The Rewind DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius go in on Michael B. Jordan’s performance in CREED II. As we always do, The Rewind takes a look back at some of the most talked about trends in music, film and television and then catches you up on everything you may have missed. Then, once we’re done playing catch up, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius hook you up with their own personal rating of the subject. We do the hard stuff so you don’t have to. Creed II hit U.S. theaters on November 21, 2018. The film is about Adonis Creed, a professional boxer who takes after his world famous father, Apollo Creed, that was unfortunately killed during a match with a Russian boxer by the name of Ivan Drago in the 80’s. Ivan Drago and his son, Viktar Drago, challenge Adonis Creed to a rematch. With the opportunity to avenge his father’s death Adonis struggles with going against the wishes of his mentor Rocky or going with his ego and defending his dead father’s honor. Creed II smashed the box office. So far it’s done over $85 million in sales and only continues to climb. It scored an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, only being beaten out by Widows and Spider-Man: Enter the SpiderVerse. Creed II picks up from where its predecessor leaves off. Adonis is in a relationship, he’s a champion, he’s still being trained by the legendary Rocky Balboa and he’s navigating through life without his father. Many people who enjoy Rocky movies were also satisfied with both Creed I and II. The people loved the sequel but did our experts DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius? Also this week we’re discussing Amine’s new “Reel It In” remix featuring Gucci Mane. The track dropped on November 20th. The new track by Amine is a smooth one. The original version appears on the Portland artist’s ONEPOINTFIVE album. Both DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius can agree that the song is a hit with or without a feature but the addition of Gucci Mane worked perfectly. Gucci simply floated on the beat and it’s a great vibe overall. Landon and Franchise gave the track rave reviews but what will they officially rate the single? You’ll have to press play on the video above for the answer on that!

Rogue One Reviews: Is The Force With This Star Wars Story?

The social media buzz over the latest Star Wars offering, Rogue One , may not be quite what it was for last year’s The Force Awakens, but we suppose that’s to be expected. After all, that film not marked the beloved franchise’s return to theaters after a ten-year absence, it had trusted sequel and reboot architect J.J. Abrams at the helm. And it didn’t hurt that TFA was the next installment of an ongoing saga, whereas Rogue One is something else entirely … The Gareth Edwards-directed film has been described as more of a spinoff than a proper sequel, tonally different from the rest of the franchise, as it offers a view of the rebels as a gritty band of guerillas. Does the risk pay off? Well, here’s what some top critics have to say: ” A tense, well-made spacefaring war movie about a desperate and demoralized band of insurgents standing up against a rising authoritarian regime .” – Chris Klimek, NPR ” Except for a few jocose, fan-serving moments, the movie is a dour affair, lacking the charm and chills of J.J. Abrams’s spirited Star Wars: The Force Awakens, not to mention George Lucas’s founding trilogy. ” – Leah Pickett, Chicago Reader ” The good news is that Edwards’ effort to make a storm-the-beach war film produces a tense third act that earns most of its big moments and also justifies much of what’s come before .” – Matthew Lickona, San Diego Reader ” Rogue One does a great job of walking the fine line between being a Star Wars film and not feeling like any other Star Wars fil m.” – Matt Neal, The Standard  “The movie didn’t rekindle the thrill of seeing, say, The Empire Strikes Back, but Rogue One will loom pretty large in the Star Wars galaxy – if only because there’s so little competition.” – David Edelstein, New York Magazine As evidenced by its 85% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, the is doing well with critics overall, but falls short of the standard set by TFA. Still, it seems that Star Wars obsessives are buying into this darker vision of their favorite far away galaxy.

Nick Jonas Gets Naked in New Movie: See the Pics!

You may recall a time when the Jonas brothers were bastions of Disney-fied purity. (They even rocked the virgin rings to prove it.) Well, those days are long gone, and no one is more anxious to prove to the world that he’s sporting fully-functional grown-up bits than Nick Jonas. In fact, at this point, nude Nick Jonas pics are hardly even news. Whether it’s Nick stripping down for a men’s mag, or Nick mocking Kim Kardashian , the man can’t keep his clothes on to save his life. Having grown tired of still-life nudity, Nick decided to show the world what his junk looks like in motion in the new film Careful What You Wish For, which is apparently already in theaters. (Like we said, nude Nick doesn’t get much attention these days.) The film has no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which is suspicious and may indicate why the marketing campaign is focused entirely on something that’s already all over the Internet for free. (The funniest part of Nick mocking Kim for being naked all the time is the unintentional irony.) But enough about the quality of this awful-sounding movie. The important thing here is Nick Jonas’ penis , which may or may not be visible in Careful What You Wish For. Producers are being coy, so we’re guessing no dong. Sorry. But hey, check out the pics above for just about every square inch skin on Nick. And if you’re still hoping to see Nick’s junk one day, well, we’re sure he’ll bare all eventually. Just be careful what you wish for. View Slideshow: 22 Adorable Photos of Nick Jonas

The Wolf of Wall Street Drops Record Number of F Bombs

The Wolf of Wall Street is f-cking awesome. Because it received a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes? Not exactly, no. Because it has set a record for most uses of the F bomb over the course of a single movie. Yes, someone out there really keeps track of this stuff. The Wolf of Wall Street Trailer According to the tally, the word “f-ck” is used 506 times through Martin Scorsese’s drama, which stars Leonardi DiCaprio and which is based on a true story of greed and excess in 1980s New York. This figure breaks the record of 435 for a non-documentary, held by 1999′s Summer of Sam . In case you were wondering: Scorsese’s Casino used the curse word 422 times, while  Goodfellas  settled for a mere 300. And in other recent movie news: The new Veronica Mars movie trailer is out. The Justin Bieber movie bombed at the box office. These fan-made Fifty Shades of Grey movie trailers are HOT!

More Peter Dinklage, Please! Four More Big Sequel Roles The Newly Minted ‘X-Men’ Actor Should Score

Director Bryan Singer  told Deadline yesterday that Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage will play a “key role” in X-Men: Second Class Days Of Future Past . This is, of course, great news for the spiffily dressed but not terribly interesting Mad Men mutants. Fans of Game of Thrones , Elf , 30 Rock , and The Station Agent have long known that Dinklage brings intelligence, gravity, and a scary-sharp wit to every production. In fact, I’d go so far as to declare that Dinklage is such a valuable asset every tentpole this year should add him to its cast. The Words of Peter need to spread far and wide. Here are four roles in 2013’s biggest sequels that Dinklage would tyrannize, or is that Tyrionize? : The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 :   It’s time for a real challenge to Tony Stark. The first two installments had the billionaire superhero playing rock’em, sock’em robots, and The Avengers portrayed Stark as the coolest guy in the room. The trilogy-closer should give Robert Downey Jr. a truly worthy foe – one who’s smart enough to launch both a physical attack and a charm offensive. Because as awesome as his high-tech salute to the San Francisco 49ers is, Iron Man’s real weapon is his crinkly-eyed charisma and all the things it can get him, like Gwyneth Paltrow’s  attention. Dinklage’s past performances suggest he’s Downey’s equal in the smart-ass and getting-ass departments, so the perfect showdown for Iron Man 3 would pit Iron Man’s quips against The Mandarin’s drollness in a game of pwns so amazing it’ll create a whole new level of snark. (Yes, Dinklage isn’t Chinese, but neither is Ben Kingsley  or that indeterminate accent he’s working in the trailers.) Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire :   Strength, speed, and cunning won Katniss her first Hunger Games, but that won’t be enough to clinch a second victory in Catching Fire . With the Capitol out for blood — sigh , aren’t they every year? — our ponytailed heroine needs alliances, even with total dorks like Peeta, to win the 75 th Games, an all-star challenge that pits previous winners against each other. Dinklage’s lack of physical threat makes him perfect for the role of Beetee, a middle-aged electrician who’s formidable precisely because he doesn’t seem like it (and because he didn’t go to school in pouty archery). The Hunger Games trilogy is, among other things, great strategy porn, and the sight of Dinklage using what his mama gave him – those full, luscious brains – would make compulsive voyeurs of us all. Tad Fawn, sensitive ladies’ man, in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues :    After Veronica Corningstone brought women’s lib to San Diego, the tides have turned on Ron Burgundy and his pelted goons. Southern California’s most-laid local celebrity is now Tad Fawn, the fuzzy sweater-loving, Stevie Nicks-adoring host of a popular PBS show about pet care. It’s frustrating enough to Ron that Cuddle Buddies is beating Channel 4 Evening News in the ratings, but now Tad is threatening to steal Ron’s greatest career achievement: the 1979 Playgirl ’s Burt of the Year title and centerfold. Dinklage’s best roles have allowed the actor to play the wounded bad boy, plus his real name is dirty enough to be his porn name . Dinklage is long overdue for a showcase for his sexy beast, and what better a forum could there be than a man-off with a soft, confused Will Ferrell ? Guy who slaps around Adam Sandler and his friends in Grown Ups 2 :  That’s it. That’s the whole movie. I would, in fact, jump at the chance to get on a bus for half an hour, fork over $12 to the hungover teenager behind the counter, and suffer through a bunch of trailers I’ve already seen online but LOUDER just for the privilege of watching Dinklage slap the smirks off Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Kevin James for whining about how being a straight white guy in an America where women they don’t find attractive have the gall to exist is just so hard, man . ( Chris Rock gets a pass because it’s his first Happy Madison flick. He won’t be in the sequel.) When Dinklage gets tired, he can put on a snazzy suit and start throwing them around the room. He’s kind of the king  of that . Inkoo Kang is a film critic and investigative journalist in Boston. She has been published in Indiewire, Boxoffice Magazine, Yahoo! Oscar By The Numbers: Predicting Academy Award Winners Nate Silver-Style

The quest to predict this year’s Oscar winners with the same mathematical precision that fivethirtyeight blogger Nate Silver  called the 2012 presidential election has got a new contestant. The filmmaking website The Credits  has teamed up with the social analytics and monitoring company Brandwatch, to create a predictive data visualization that it has dubbed ” Social Oscars .”  East Coast Editor Bryan Abrams says the algorithm, which was created by British quant Edward Crook, predicts the Oscar front-runners by focusing on the positive mentions that nominated films, directors and actors generate via critics and social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Abrams explains that the algorithm is created to filter out mentions that are negative or that don’t specifically pertain to a nominated film or an actor’s performance in it. “If there’s a positive story about Best Supporting Actress nominee Anne Hathaway having lunch at The Ivy, that’s not going to be counted,” he says. The editor also estimates that, by the time the Academy Awards are handed out on Feb. 24, the algorithm will have evaluated more than a million mentions that it has evaluated on the Internet. The Social Oscars works differently than, for instance, The Huffington Post’s Oscar Predictions Dashboard , which incorporates box-office results and Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience scores.  For one thing, it predicts frontrunners via two categories:  Public Choice and Critics Choice. So, for instance, as of Feb. 15, Robert De Niro is the Critics Choice favorite for Best Supporting Actor, while Christoph Waltz is leading in the Public Choice category.  In the Best Actress category, Jennifer Lawrence is far and away the public’s choice, but she’s virtually tied with Jessica Chastain  with critics. And though some pundits are pushing a scenario in which Amour actress Emmanuelle Riva walks away with the prize, the French actress is a distant third in the Social Oscars race (but a rising number two on HuffPo’s dashboard). And for those rooting for Argo to upset Lincoln as Best Picture, there’s good news. The Ben Affleck-directed picture is the clear frontrunner, according to the Social Oscars algorithm.
