The Rewind: ‘Glass’ Comes With A ‘Trigger Warning’

Source: iOne Digital, The Rewind / IOne Digital Video Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise return with another week of your favorite series, Global Grind’s “The Rewind”. Like we always do at this time, we’re giving you your much-needed dose of recap reality. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. This week, Landon and Franchise will be discussing the M. Night Shyamalan flick, Glass . The film is a sequel to the previous movies,  Unbreakable , which came out in 2000, and Split , which was released in 2016. It stars Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and of course, James McAvoy, who reprises his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within. Glass hit theaters on January 18, 2019, and was met with mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a mere 36% score while IMDB was more forgiving with a 7 out of 10 rating. Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise got to check out the movie and rate it for themselves. Knowing what you know about how hard these two are to please, what do you think they thought of Glass ? Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise also dig into the new Netflix series, Trigger Warning , hosted by Killer Mike. Trigger Warning hit the Netflix platform on January 18 as well. On the show, the Atlanta native uses various scenarios to confront important social issues and cultural taboos. The first season of the show is six episodes long and has already picked up steam on social media. An episode in which Killer Mike teaches a young grade school student about white privilege quickly went viral just hours after Trigger Warning was available for streaming on Netflix. Killer Mike uses nontraditional approaches to explore the human condition and examine the “what ifs” and “why nots” that limit how people operate in the world. Social media is already fascinated with the show but do you think Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise were feeling it? Our resident critics share their thoughts on the new show and let us know whether or not it’s worth the hype. Find out what they rated these topics and more when you press play on episode 29 of The Rewind up above.

In case you have been living under a rock,  The Rewind  will always be here to get you right. On today’s episode, we’re unpacking Netflix’s Bird Box . By now, you’ve gotten the opportunity to see the film at least once. Bird Box stars Sandra Bullock and Moonlight  break out star Trevante Rhodes. Bird Box  is a post apocalyptic thriller that begins when a mysterious force threatens the end of civilization. The force, if you look at it, causes you to not only do bodily harm to yourself but pushes you to kill yourself. Mallory, played by Sandra Bullock, connects with a group of people with the desire to survive the end of the world. Eventually, Mallory must use her instincts to keep her and her children alive with the help of good samaritans and a box of birds. Mallory and the children are blindfolded for the majority of the film and have to figure out how to navigate the world without the ability to see. Trevante Rhodes’ character, Tom, plays an unlikely love interest in the film. The movie hit Netflix on December 13, 2018, and social media has had mixed reactions about whether or not they enjoyed it. What did Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise think? They drop their opinions and give it a rating. Also, Landon and Franchise dive into one of the most highly discussed topics in 2019 so far — R. Kelly. The six part docu-series Surviving R. Kelly premiered on the Lifetime network on January 3 and ever since then, it has been all anyone has been talking about. The series touched on R. Kelly’s past allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with minors and spoke to R. Kelly’s former victims, family members, friends, employees and even his music teacher. Journalist Dream Hampton directed the documentary which reignited the entire #MuteRKelly movement. Landon and Franchise share their thoughts on Surviving R. Kell y and what they think will become of the Pied Piper. Press play on the video above to check out episode 26 of Global Grind’s The Rewind and let us know your thoughts!

The Rewind: It’s A Wrap! We’re Recapping 2018

Follow this link:

Source: iOne Digital, The Rewind / IOne Digital Video It’s a wrap! 2018 was an outstanding year but it’s coming to a close so it’s only right that we revisit and review some monumental moments in our New Year edition of Global Grind’s  The Rewind  with DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. The final The Rewind episode of the year will be wrapping up iconic moments from previous episodes. First, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius take us back to October 5th when they discussed Logic’s nearly 8 minute track, “Wu-Tang Forever”  which appeared on Logic’s YSIV project and featured Cappadonna, Masta Killa, U-God, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, GZA, RZA, and every other living member of the Wu you can think of. Franchise and Landon also discussed Cardi B, specifically her latest single “Money”, which Franchise was not feeling.  However, Landon loves it and makes a note that Cardi B is clearly here to stay. Then we take a trip back to November  9th where Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise discuss Takeoff’s solo LP,  “The Last Rocket”, which dropped on November 2nd. DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius being the super hip hop heads they are had got a lot to say. Landon actually enjoys the fact that Takeoff didn’t mumble rap for the entire album, citing that “The Martian”, the album’s first track, was his favorite. While Landon, being the Southerner that he is,  was rocking with Takeoff’s solo effort, DJ Franchise was not feeling it one bit. The words “sucked” and “garbage” were thrown around a few times, actually. The pair also discussed “The Meg” in this episode, which was released on DVD on November 13th. This is just a tip of what we discussed on The Rewind this year. There’s so much more to catch up on. Press play on episode 23 above and get your final fix of The Rewind for 2018. We’ll see you next year!

Lo’s starring in “Second Act” that hits theaters December 21, 2018, and unlike most critics Franchise and Landon actually enjoyed it giving it a solid 8 and 9 respectively, despite some criticism. “Franchise: There were only a couple things I didn’t like, I didn’t like the Disney feel. J.Lo should’ve been from the block. Landon: She hasn’t been on the block since P. Diddy. […] I give it a 9, it’s J. Lo’s best performance I’ve seen probably since “Enough” and it’ better than Selena to me, her performance in this movie.” Wait—better than Selena?! Watch “The Rewind” above to see if you agree. The Rewind: Mahershala Ali Motors Through Jim Crow’s America & Sade’s Got A New Track

Source: Global Grind / Global Grind You already know what time it is! It’s time for another episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind  hosted by none other than DJ Franchise and Landon Lavarius. Like we do each and every week, The Rewind is going to break down some of the things you may have missed out on a week ago, recap, share our take and then wrap it all up with a 1 to 10 rating to let you know whether it was worth living under a rock over. On today’s episode, Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise will discuss Mahershala Ali’s new movie Green Book which dropped today, November 16th. The film also stars Viggo Mortensen and is about Ali, who plays a world-class pianist who’s about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962 and hires a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx as his driver and bodyguard.  It’s like Driving Miss Daisy but in reverse. Landon and Franchise both got to watch the movie, however, they have conflicting views as to whether the film is hot or not. Landon Lavarius brings up a great point about Viggo Mortensen’s recent N-word controversy. During a question and answer session for the movie, Viggo dropped the N bomb while explaining racism in the 1960s. Ali actually discussed the incident during an appearance on The View. He said, “In this case and with Viggo who I absolutely love and adore, there’s a difference between racism, insensitivity and a lack of awareness. Any time a debate can be had in black culture about the appropriateness of the word, that should be left in black culture to have that debate, [in the] black community. But any time a non-black person says it in a space, there’s a mini-explosion that goes off within you because you suddenly haven’t processed the intention behind it, the relationship behind it.” Find out what Landon and DJ Franchise rate the film by clicking play. Have you been itching for some new music from Sade? Well, on November 10th, the songbird released a new track ‘The Big Unknown’ which appears on the soundtrack for the Steve McQueen-directed film Widows  starring Viola Davis. Did our girl Sade deliver a smash? Landon and DJ Franchise weigh in! Also, we couldn’t let an entire episode of The Rewind go by without wishing a heartfelt farewell to the creative genius that is Stan Lee. Check out the latest episode of The Rewind above!

The Rewind: You’re Gonna Love Teyana Taylor And Tyler Perry Releases “Nobody’s Fool”

Continue reading here:

Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are back to back with it on today’s episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind . You already know how we do each and every week. The Rewind will break down some of the things you could have (and probably shouldn’t have) missed in the last week. We tell you what’s hot, what’s not and then give it a rating of 1-10. Never feel left at out the water cooler again now that you have The Rewind in your life. This week, Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are talking about Teyana Taylor’s new track “Gonna Love Me (Remix)” which features Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon of Wu-Tang Clan. Anyone who thinks this is an unlikely match up may want to familiarize themselves with the fact that Teyana also collaborated with Wu-Tang Clan last week to release a new Wu Tang inspired lipstick line with Milk Cosmetics. It’s a literal match made in Shaolin heaven but is “Gonna Love Me (Remix)” a smash or is it trash? “Gonna Love Me” originally appeared on Teyana Taylor’s Keep The Same Energy album which came out over the summer and was produced by Kanye West. Landon and Franchise have opposing views on the track. They both like it but one likes it a LOT more than another. You’ll have to tune in to The Rewind to figure out who wasn’t all that enthused by the new remix. This week we also discuss Tyler Perry’s new film, “Nobody’s Fool” which hit theaters on November 2nd. The movie is about a woman who is released from prison and reunites with her sister. It stars Tika Sumpter, Tiffany Haddish, Missi Pyle and Courtney Henggeler. Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise weighed in on the film and gave it a rating. The movie, which was Tyler Perry’s first R rated comedy, did $14 million worldwide with a $19 million budget. That’s not a lot but was it worth more? Franchise wasn’t a fan of the movie at all. He absolutely hated everything about it. Find out what Landon Levarius thought of the film and how both of our in-house critics rated the film over all. Check out this week’s episode of The Rewind up above!
