White Wisdom: Ellen Pompeo Schools Her Mayonnaised Peers On How To Be An Ally [Video]

The entire World Wide Web is stanning Ellen Pompeo right now over her comments about diversity and inclusion in Hollywood. During a panel discussion for NET-A-PORTER’s “The Big Television Debate”, the Grey’s Anatomy star sat down with Gabrielle Union , Gina Rodriguez , Emma Roberts and revealed that she has no problem calling out the lack of color/ diversity wherever she is — including the NET-A-PORTER set where the panel was conducted. “This day has been incredible, and there’s a ton of women in the room, but, I don’t see enough color. And I didn’t see enough color when I walked in the room today.” As she continued on, Ellen got emotional when speaking on how Caucasian folks can be better allies. “As Caucasian people, it’s our job. It’s our task, it’s our responsibility to make sure we speak up in every single room we walk into. It’s our job because we created the problem.” Shout out to Ellen P. for keeping it G. Stacey Abrams Refuses To Concede Georgia Governor Race

See original here:

U PDATED: 6:34 a.m. EDT, Nov. 7 — After a suspenseful Election Night, Stacey Abrams said she wouldn’t concede the race to be Georgia’s next governor to Brian Kemp, who was accused of orchestrating widespread voter suppression against Black people before and during Election Day. Abrams hinted at a possible runoff election next month because of Kemp’s razor-thin lead that continued to dwindle Wednesday morning, according to the Atlanta Journal-Consitution . Every single vote.” https://t.co/6pqqY4AD1c pic.twitter.com/aeVBUUaA7t — NBC News (@NBCNews) November 7, 2018 “And I need you to know that it is my mission to serve you, to serve Georgia, to make you proud,” Abrams said late Tuesday night. “And for those who didn’t pick me the first time, to change your mind about me and what we can accomplish together.” GEORGIA! This race is NOT over. @StaceyAbrams is now closer than ever. And 9% of voters are still outstanding in heavily Democratic areas. — Shaun King (@shaunking) November 7, 2018 She continued : “Votes remain to be counted. Voices waiting to be heard. We are going to make sure that every vote is counted – because in a civilized nation, the machinery of democracy should work everywhere for everyone.” Original story:   G eorgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp  stooped to a new low, even for him, in his ongoing efforts to keep Black people from voting for Stacey Abrams , the Black woman running against him for governor. He’s also been on the receiving end of multiple federal lawsuits over his attempts to suppress Black votes. They range for rejecting certain absentee ballots , blocking approximately 53,000 voter registration forms and purging some 700,000 voters from the state’s voting rolls—all targeting African-American voters. RHOA Shade: NeNe Pettily Posts Her ‘Glambaby’ After Beefing With Her Son’s Alleged Baby Mama

(Photo by: Charles Sykes/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images) NeNe Leakes Posts Baby Bri’Asia’s Pictures NeNe Leakes is a proud “Glam-Ma”, to at least one child. The RHOA vet recently shared rare photos of her granddaughter a.k.a. her “glambaby” in a post that may or may not have been peppered with shade. “Brunch wit my princess,” NeNe captioned a pic of herself smooching her glambaby Bri’Asia over waffles. So why do fans think NeNe’s being shady??? Well as we previously reported, NeNe called into the The Armon Wiggins Show last week and defended herself against a woman named Symone Davis who claims NeNe’s been a negligent grandma to her child. According to Symone, she had a baby with NeNe’s son Bryson, who’s also Bri’Asia’s dad, and NeNe should assist in supporting the baby. NeNe rebuked those claims however and said the child has nothing to do with her. “If she has a child with Bryson, it is not my child, not my responsibility,” said NeNe. Looks like there’s only one glambaby here, boo! Do YOU think NeNe’s post was shady or just a coincidence???

F ormer football player Colin Kaepernick has continually used his platform as an avenue to bring attention to social injustice. He’s been honored by several institutions and organizations for lending his voice and resources to overcome issues faced by the Black community. The latest institution to recognize Kaepernick’s efforts is Harvard University. The school awarded him with the W.E.B. Du Bois medal on Thursday, the Huffington Post reported. Colin Kaepernick received Harvard’s prestigious W.E.B. Du Bois medal on Thursday for his tireless protests of police brutality and racial inequality. https://t.co/xylKxRtVHG — HuffPost BlackVoices (@blackvoices) October 12, 2018 The medal is awarded to individuals who are fierce advocates for human rights and who have contributed to shaping Black culture, the news outlet writes. Kaepernick joins a list of legends who have received the award in the past, including the late Muhammad Ali and Maya Angelou . While accepting the award, Kaepernick recounted interacting with a high school football team during his travels around the country. “One of the young brothers says, ‘We don’t get to eat at home, so we’re going to eat on this field.’ That moment has never left me. And I’ve carried that everywhere I went,” he said, according to the news outlet. “I feel like it’s not only my responsibility but all our responsibilities as people that are in positions of privilege, in positions of power, to continue to fight for them and uplift them, empower them. Because if we don’t, we become complicit in the problem.” Amongst the other individuals who were honored included Bryan Stevenson , Florence Ladd , and Dave Chappelle . Kaepernick has won several awards for his brave decision to stay dedicated to what he believed in even though it impacted his career. Earlier this year, Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, awarded Kaepernick its 2018 Ambassador of Conscience Award. “This is an award that I share with all of the countless people throughout the world combating the human rights violations of police officers, and their uses of oppressive and excessive force,” he said during his acceptance speech. Ole Miss Faculty, Students Fight To Have Journalism School Renamed After Ida B. Wells-Barnett

A racially suggestive Facebook post by a University of Mississippi donor has prompted faculty and students to lead an effort to rename their journalism school after Civil Rights advocate, journalist, and educator Ida B. Wells-Barnett , the Chicago Tribune reported. A Facebook post by a prominent university donor is denounced as racist, sparking a call to rename the Ole Miss journalism school for Chicago activist Ida B. Wells-Barnett https://t.co/iKKD1fTIlK pic.twitter.com/2FviDr7wjy — Chicago Tribune (@chicagotribune) October 7, 2018 According to the news outlet Ed Meek , one of the institution’s biggest donors, took to social media in September to post about a drop in the school’s enrollment. “A 3 percent decline in enrollment is nothing compared to what we will see if this continues … and real estate values will plummet as will tax revenues,” he wrote. “We all share in the responsibility to protect the values we hold dear that have made Oxford and Ole Miss known nationally.” He posted that Facebook status along with a photo of two Black University of Mississippi students, which for many insinuated that racial diversity was the cause of the decline in enrollment. After receiving backlash, Meek issued an apology but simply saying sorry wouldn’t suffice. It sparked a larger conversation about racism on campus; both in the past and present. A group of professors and students penned a letter asking that the journalism school—which is currently named after Meek—be renamed after Wells-Barnett. “Removing Ed Meek’s name from the School is a necessary, but basic, step in a much longer process of reparative justice,” read the letter, according to the news outlet. “Our university must firmly stand for its stated values of intellectual excellence, non-discrimination and inclusion and support for all its students.” The group is also asking for the removal of a Confederate statue on the Ole Miss campus and for journalism scholarships to be created for Black women who want to pursue careers in the media industry. The state College Board will have the final say in this matter. The University of Mississippi made the decision last year to include plaques in campus buildings that were built by slaves. Ole Miss isn’t the only higher education institution that is dealing with present-day racism and past ties to slavery. Last year, Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey renamed areas of its campus to pay homage to the slaves who built the university from the ground up.
