The Wanted Keeping U.S. Debut Album ‘Upbeat’

New single, ‘Chasing the Sun,’ is in ‘same vein as ‘Glad You Came,’ ‘ Tom Parker tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway The Wanted Photo: MTV News The Wanted will officially drop their U.S. debut album next month. They’ve been busy in the studio working on tracks to follow up their smash single, “Glad You Came.” And with so much enthusiasm coursing through America for boy bands , the guys are looking forward to launching this next phase in their careers. “You know, I think from the start when we were in the U.K. we got our first single, which was ‘All Time Low,’ and it set itself up,” Tom Parker told MTV News about the band’s control over their music. “And we all agree on a certain sound and ‘Glad You Came’ was probably as [far as] we went in terms of difference in sound, but we all kind of come to an agreement to keep it upbeat, usually.” Parker adds that when they do stray from that sound it doesn’t always work out. “We did a ballad and it wasn’t that great, if I’m honest with you,” he said. “We’ve got a new one called ‘Chasing the Sun,’ which is gonna go out to radio soon, so look out for it. It’s in the same vein as ‘Glad You Came’; it’s upbeat.” Now that they are knee-deep in getting their U.S. debut together, Jay McGuiness explains that despite the size of the group, the guys make decisions pretty easily. “We’re all pretty laid-back in coming to a decision that we all agree with,” he said. “We’re not gonna lie: Two years ago we were bitches to the record label, but now we’ve grown enough. We know what we’re doing now. We’re enjoying ourselves.” And that means that they are aiming to make something that will get American audiences pumped. Siva Kaneswaran added, “To be in the U.S. is amazing, but just as long as we go out there and be ourselves and the U.S. takes us as we are, we’re just coming over here to have a laugh.”

‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ Tops Broadway Box-Office Chart

The troubled production, still in previews, knocked long-running ‘Wicked’ out of the top spot. By James Montgomery Theatre marquee for “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” Photo: Don Emmert/ AFP After enduring a seemingly endless barrage of bad news — injured performers , poorly received previews and an oft-delayed opening date — producers of the troubled “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark” finally have something to cheer about. As it turns out, their production is making money … lots of it. According to The New York Times, the “Spider-Man” musical made more than $1.5 million in ticket sales during the first week of January, making it the highest-grossing show on Broadway. “Spider-Man” knocked off perennial moneymaker “Wicked” to claim the top spot, earning exactly $58 more at the box office than the long-running “Wizard of Oz”-themed play. The Times does ad, however, that while “Wicked” had 100-percent of its audience paying for tickets (at an average price of $109.76), “Spider-Man” has been offering some discount and complimentary tickets during its preview period, and that the average paid admission for the show was $102.86. Helping to push “Spider-Man” into the #1 spot was the fact that it plays at the Foxwoods Theater, which has 1,930 seats, while the venue that hosts “Wicked,” the Gershwin Theater, has just 1,809. Still, the Times noted that both productions played to sold-out crowds in early January — a sign that, no matter how bad the press surrounding “Spider-Man” has been (or, perhaps, because of it), the fledgling musical may be positioned to challenge the Broadway supremacy of “Wicked,” which has been an out-of-the-box smash since opening in 2003. “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark,” which is directed by Julie Taymor and features a score by U2’s Bono and The Edge , will officially open on February 7.

Walmart Brings Down iPhone 3Gs 16GB To $97

Walmart, an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores, announced last Tuesday about iPhone’s biggest price drop off. The price of the iPhone 3G 16GB is that it had dropped the price to $97. This is the lowest price on the handset ever in the United States. Priced from $197, it had a $100 price cut for the 16GB 3GS which is now at par with iPhone’s 8GB 3GS. It has been speculated that there is a new upgraded prototype to be released this summer for they had been doing it for the past three years already. The 32GB variant of the iPhone 3GS still remains at the price of $297 on Walmart. If a new model of the iPhone is announced on June 7, it’s also probable that the price of the iPhone 3GS 16GB will officially be lowered by Apple, as they did in 2009 with the iPhone 3G 8GB—probably to $99. Unless you have impatiently been waiting for the iPhone 3GS’s price to be lowered and just can’t bear to wait any more, I would recommend holding out for just a little while longer and hear what Apple has to say.
