Today, the city begins a new chapter as Steven Reed will become the very first African-American person to be sworn in as Mayor according to WGNO . Before taking the reigns of city, Reed was a Montgomery County probate judge who will now replace Mayor Todd Strange after he chose not to seek reelection. Montgomery was the site of the Rosa Parks-inspired bus boycott in 1955 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, as well as the destination of the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery protest marches that were met with brutal police violence and led to the Voting Rights Act. The nation’s first memorial for more than 4,000 victims of lynchings opened there last year. About 60% of the city’s residents are black. With all that baggage, Reed, who was born and raised in the Alabama capitol, is ready to take the city into a new era. “We’ve been unified on the message of opportunity and creating an environment where people can live, learn and earn,” Reed said. “We want to let everyone know that this is a new Montgomery,” Reed said. “This is a new day, and we’re going to be a great part and a great asset to this country.” Clap for ’em!

One of those huge names would be Joel Osteen . Who’s Mega church in Houston has really seen no end to growth in the Houston area. Now it seems Joel has caught wind of what Kanye West is doing with his “ Sunday Service ” and as any smart business man he wants parts. Rumors circulated last month he had invited Kanye to his church but it seems both have agreed on scratching each other back to make that happen. TMZ reports , that Osteen and Non-Voting-Trump-Supporter Kanye West have been talking on the regular. “We’re told the plan is for Kanye to show up at Joel’s 11 AM service in Houston this coming Sunday at the Lakewood Church. Kanye will walk up to the pulpit and have a conversation with Joel that will last between 20 and 30 minutes. Our sources say Joel wants his congregation — which stands 45,000 strong — and his TV audience — which stands at 10 million in the U.S. alone — to hear how Kanye has overcome significant adversity in his life.” If you’re unfamiliar with the Lakewood church they have a morning and a night service in Houston, Texas. The morning conversation is sure to dominate headlines into at least December. While the ones who want to experience Kanye’s “Sunday Service” will have to return in the afternoon. The pairing seems odd given Joel Osteen last flare up in headlines were due to him refusing to shelter hurricane victims. Now it seems he’s welcoming (some would say pandering) the same community he refused in his doors. What could go wrong? The man who invited him, Tyler, The Creator , took to Twitter to criticize those who disrespected the 6 God, while also taking some of the blame himself. The crowd had been anticipating an appearance from Frank Ocean, but instead got Drizzy, and as you know, that didn’t go over too well. Writing in all caps, because of course, Tyler broke down what happened and admitted Drake and the crowd wasn’t exactly the best of fits. “I thought bringing one of the biggest artist [sic] on the f*cking planet to a music festival was fire!,” Tyler tweeted. “But flipside, a lil tone deaf knowing the specific crowd it drew. Some created a narrative in their head and acted out like assholes when it didnt [sic] come true and I don’t f*ck with that.” Nevertheless, Tyler went on to express appreciation for Drake holding it down despite the hostile environment. He added, “This n*gga did Feel No Ways! Song is beautiful.” and a “Thank you Aubrey!” later on. He really likes “Feel No Ways.” However, he didn’t let the “fans” off the hook. “Also, mostly everyone was having a great time, those sh*ts in the front area were the ones being mad rude, which, I can see why, but, nah, f*ck that, yall represented me and Flog to my guest and made us look sooo entitled and trash. The singer who said she’s ditching the music industry after she ends her current tour was blasted on social media this weekend by a disgruntled fan. According to the woman she shelled out good money to see the “CPR” songstress during a meet & greet but only met her “literally for five seconds.” The fan ranted and told the singer she’ll no longer support her career and remarked that Summer “doesn’t deserve” her fanbase. “Such an anticlimactic and disappointing experience meeting Summer Walker yesterday,” wrote the fan. “We were informed to have our phones out, ready with flash, and not to sit too close or touch her. She barely spoke to anyone, every couple people she’d say ‘Hi’. It was a big hurt piece for me because I really idolised her and her work. Summer, you lost a big fan.
