Random AF: Pete Davidson Called THIS Celebrity To Get Advice Before Asking Ariana Grande To Marry Him

Image via VALERIE MACON/AFP/Alison Hale/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Pete Davidson Asked For Advice Before Proposing To Ariana Grande Pete Davidson must have had a lil trepidation about popping the big question to his brand new girlfriend Ariana Grande. According to Entertainment Tonight , he made a phone call to an unlikely celebrity who could relate to his post-haste engagement to get their opinion. Nick Cannon. “He called before he was going to do it, and I said, ‘Salud!’” Cannon shared. “He was really excited, so I was like, ‘I love it, man. Keep it going.’ Love is in the air!” In reality, it isn’t random that Pete called Nick, they go way back. “I used to have a radio show in NYC in the mornings and this kid called in one day, 15 years old and said, ‘I want to open up for you doing stand-up.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, all right, tell me a joke.’ He told me a joke and I was like, ‘This kid is pretty funny’… I took him on the road with me,” he explained. “Unbeknownst to me, even at that time, I didn’t know about his history, that his father passed away on 9/11 and then just watched this young man have all of this weight on his shoulders and then just become this outstanding, hilarious young individual.” And as we stated before, Nick’s marriage to Mariah Carey is similar to what Pete is about to do with Ariana. “I don’t think [there’s such thing as too soon],” Cannon said. “But I’m a hopeless romantic, or as I say, a fearless romantic. I just like to jump into it, and sometimes it can get you in trouble, but it makes for some great stories.” Thing is, Nick’s marriage didn’t make to “til death do us part”. Maybe there was a better person to call, we’re just sayin’.

Exclusive: ‘Claws’ Showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois On Telling Strong Women’s Stories And How Niecy Nash Embodies Power

Source: Mike Jordan / Getty It’s been a minute, but the Fab Five are finally back for season two of TNT’s hit dramedy Claws . And from the looks of the season premiere, it’s clear that Desna, Polly, Virginia, Jen and Quiet Ann are up to their necks in money laundering, Russian mobsters, the Dixie Mafia, avoiding getting killed and of course, the nail art game. While the show, which stars the amazing Niecy Nash and Karrueche Tran , may be over the top at times—in a good way of course—it never lacks authenticity, which matters since the story is centered on a Black woman and her “ride-or-die” crew. What’s also clear is that a lot of that realness has to do to with its seasoned showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois . HelloBeautiful sat down with Barrois to talk about the importance of telling strong women’s story, why Niecy Nash is the show’s anchor and whether Claws has encouraged her to be more daring with her nail art. HelloBeautiful: You’ve written for shows like ER and Criminal Minds . While Claws  has a criminal element, it certainly isn’t about serial killers or hospital drama. What about a nail salon in Florida drew you in? Janine Sherman Barrois:  It was just so bold and refreshing.  I read the pilot script [the show’s creator] Eliot Laurence wrote and it was just so good! I loved the Florida noir aspect and the humor and the drama it possessed. That, and the idea that it was a centered on these five cool fierce women. So often on television, women are not on the forefront, they usually serve as sidekicks to the male leads. But with Claws , these women are the heart and soul of the show.      HB:   I watched the season premiere twice, it was so outrageous, amazing and the gender power dynamic has really shifted from the first season. Instead of the Desna working for the Hussers, they work for her under the Russians, who are also women. With the  #MeToo Movement stronger than ever, why is having Desna & company in charge so important? JSB: First, while Claws is definitely about female empowerment and women sticking up for themselves, I don’t want to conflate the #MeToo Movement with the show. So with that being said, yes, I think the gender power dynamic shifting from a patriarch with Uncle Daddy [Dean Norris] to a matriarch with Zlata [Franka Potente] is a great thing.  Women have always been woke and we’ve always been trying to take our power and say we’re not putting up with inequality anymore, so it’s more than just that. We are in a time where we are even more vocal about [being entitled] to parity with men, whether it be financially, sexually or creatively. Time is really up for inequality, especially for these women that work at a nail salon in the middle of a strip mall in Palmetto, Florida. HB: Niecy Nash is such an anchor to this series, I couldn’t imagine the show without her. I read that initially she wasn’t available for the pilot because she was shooting a different one, but that later changed and she was cast with the quickness.  JSB:  When you look at the show now, it’s so clear that the only person who can play Desna is Niecy. But at the time, we were looking  at lots of women of difference races—we really didn’t know who could play this role. But when we heard her pilot wasn’t happening, the head of studio called us and asked did we want to meet with her. We said yes.  The minute she walked in the room, she just blew our minds. She was different from anything we had ever seen. Niecy  embodies power and has this unapologetic fierceness to her. Let me tell you, this was all from just a meeting, but we knew from day one she had so much passion to play this role and would give Desna the layers she deserved. But what’s also great about Niecy is that she’s not just passionate about her character, she’s passionate about everyone else’s and advocates for the writing room to make sure they are just as cool and layered as Desna.      HB: One of the strengths of the show is the power of friendship and it’s interesting because from their race to sexual orientation, they are very different. We rarely see this on TV, especially in a way where they are all equals, not just sassy sidekicks that boast up the white female protagonist. I absolutely love it.  JSB:  Over the weekend one of the show’s actors shared that someone told them the Claws shows them that Black women and white women and other women of color can forge real friendships and get along. I think that’s very key and in so many parts of the feminist movement, women of color have asked white women, “Where are you when it comes to our causes?”  So I think its very important to see that these women are bonding and forging friendships that is about their humanity and their race. Also, we wanted for it to be authentic. When we were casting Jen [Jenn Lyon], we wanted someone who we really believed would be best friends with Desna. We needed something about Jen’s worldview where it was clear that having a diverse group of women in her life came from her own desire and her soul. Too often, these types of friendships come because you’re paid to have it, like you work with someone and you’re forced into this friendship. Or you go to college and you’re the first person of color your roommate has ever seen. But these women aren’t like that. There is a commonality of sisterhood that exists despite of their race and sexual orientation, something that TV has ignored for far too long.  HB: Being one of the few Black female showrunners in the industry along with Shonda Rhimes ( Grey’s Anatomy ), Lena Waithe ( The Chi ) and Karin Gist ( Star ) to name a few, how important is to for us to have a seat at the table?  JSB:  It’s extremely important. The more diverse people you have in the room, the larger point of view you have to shape the story. And when you have people of color running a show, they can help make sure inclusion happens behind the scenes, with the actors and the crew.  This is the world of the new generation to make inclusion and diversity a part of life and how we do things in Hollywood. We are far more woke than the older generation and with them getting older and retiring, we are going to see a real shift. I believe things are getting much better.   Also, we have  Shonda Rhimes who has made billions of dollars for her network and once you bring in that kind of money, and show that not just white men can do it, you open the doors for so many other women of color and show them and the execs that it’s possible.  HB: What’s your advice for Black female writers trying to break into the industry? These three things. First, you need to write everyday, it’s far too competitive not to. Also, y ou also have to read a lot. Whether it’s fiction, screenplays or television specs, the more you read the better storyteller you will become. Most importantly, be persistent and look for the opportunities. A lot of people don’t know how to find them and when they have an opportunity, they miss out on it because they weren’t prepared or they didn’t realize. Keep your eyes open and be ready.  Honestly, if you want to make in the industry, you have to be obsessed with it.     HB: Finally, given that Claws is about a nail salon, how often do you get your nails done? And has the show encouraged you to be more creative? JSB: [Laughs]  I work so much that I can only get my nails done about once a month, but I will definitely try funky things, especially if I have an event or a press junket for the show. I’m also into wild press ons too. But I do love getting my nails done, not only does it complete your look, but it relaxes me and you can hear the best stories just sitting back in the salon. It’s my therapy.  This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity. Catch Claws on Sundays on TNT at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central.  RELATED NEWS: Niecy Nash On Keeping It Spicy For Her Husband: ‘I Ask Him What Hair He Wants To See Me In’ Season 3 Of ‘Insecure’ To Focus On Toxic Masculinity Hail To The Queen! Amy Roloff Offers Inspirational Words of Advice to… Everyone

Amy Roloff had a great time on Mother’s Day. But the Little People, Big World star believes every day should be Mother’s Day. Not because she wants to be celebrated, though. Because she thinks it’s really important that folks spend as much time as possible with their family members… and it’s sort of a shame that widespread gatherings among loved ones only take place on holidays. Typically, that is Last Sunday, Amy went out for a meal with Tori and Zach Roloff; their son, Jackson; and Jacob Roloff and his fiancee, Isabel. She shared a picture from the enjoyable evening (above) and included with it an inspiring message. “This Mother’s Day I was reminded again how wonderfully blessed I am,” Amy wrote to open this caption, which continued as follows: “I have awesome kids and was so glad I could spend a little time with some of them. Another reminder was time goes by quickly. “I don’t need to wait for a ‘special day’ or perfect day to spend time with them, or a friend, or others I love or give a reach out to another.” We totally agree. Amy recently hosted an engagement party for Jacob , who asked Isabel to marry him in December. She also shared an endless array of photos of her and her grandkids because, well… need we really explain why? Because they are positively adorable and she’s so very fortunate to live close by to both Jackson and Ember, the firstborn of Audrey Roloff and Jeremy Roloff. Just a few weeks ago, Amy was lucky enough to even be visited by Molly Roloff, who lives farther away and who does NOT want to appear on Little People, Big World. But who remains close to her mother nonetheless. Concluded Amy in her Mother’s Day-related caption: If I wait and wait too long for a specific moment I may miss something wonderful. An ordinary moment of time that ended up being priceless. Make time often to honestly let someone know, from the heart, they matter to you! They’re important in your world. How about today? I don’t know you but you matter to me from the support and encouragement I get from all of you all the time. Thank you. Amy, of course, has often taken these words to heart when it comes to boyfriend Chris Marek. She gushes about their romance on a near-daily basis, much to the surprising chagrin of some followers. As we’ve documented far too many times, a handful of social media users out there think Marek is no good for Amy. They think he’s a gold digger. Or that he isn’t very nice to Amy. Or that he’s gay . But Amy just shrugs off these misguided complaints and follows her own advice; she makes sure Chris always knows that he matters to her. “This guy is wonderful!” she wrote as a caption of a recent photo of him, prior to addressing her fans and adding: “Thanks for being awesome fans and your support and encouragement here on my FB and IG. Keep smiling – you may help someone else want to smile too!” Amen, Amy. Amen. View Slideshow: Little People, Big World Cast: Then vs. Now

The New York Times reports that Salamoni was fired after the department released new footage of Sterling’s death showing Officer Salamoni cursing at Sterling and repeatedly slamming him into a car. Officer Howie Lake II is then seen tasing Sterling while Salomoni threatens to shoot him with a gun pointed at his head. Mind you, police initially said that the body cam footage didn’t exist. The “disciplinary action” comes after both state and federal officials declined to bring criminal charges against the officers. Chief Murphy of the Baton Rouge Police department has released a statement on the firing saying; “These actions were not minor deviations from policy and they contributed to the outcome that resulted in the death of another human being.” SMH, this is nowhere near the kind of justice Alton Sterling’s family needs. Khloe Kardashian Speaks Out About Rob Kardashian’s Weight

Though Rob Kardashian is always happy to  post adorable photos of North and Dream , he is personally camera-shy and spent years more or less hiding from his family's spotlight. A huge factor was his weight gain. He's been honest about it, but the body-shaming that he's received has been inexcusable. Khloe opens up about that and more in this clip from Revenge Body , which you can see below. In the Revenge Body clip that you can watch below, Khloe offers counseling to a married couple named Chad and Allison. Allison laments being heavier than she would like — describing “worrying about” being 200 pounds when she and Chad were dating and now “worrying about” being 300 pounds as a married woman. She believes that her current weight presents health risks, and that it would be unsafe to become pregnant with her current figure. (We don't know the exact date when this was taped, but in real life, Khloe just did her gender reveal , and is of course pregnant. And she probably knew that she was pregnant at this time. Her facial expression is interesting) Chad, interestingly, also has body image issues. He believes that he is too scrawny. While the issues that Allison laments are somewhat more common, there is a stigma — arising from toxic masculinity — against thin or scrawny men, even though many people find their body type to be desirable or even ideal. Khloe first addresses Allison's desire to lose weight and her complicated relationship with her body and figure. “I know how you feel.” That's an interesting claim, since Khloe — though she was once less fit than she currently is — has never been what could honestly be described as “fat.” “You feel, like, trapped in your own body.” Before anyone assumes that Khloe is trying to say that her past issues compare to Allison's, however, Khloe explains why she knows how Allison feels. “I feel that way for my brother.” Khloe continues, discussing Rob Kardashian as an example. “Who, you know, gained a lot of weight. It's debilitating.” Rob Kardashian did famously gain a lot of weight and spent years in seclusion, rarely venturing into the public eye. He was so self-conscious about his weight gain — which he has blamed on a milkshake habit that snowballed into other unhealthy habits — that he skipped out on Kim Kardashians's 2014 wedding. He just did not feel comfortable in his own skin. Khloe has previously encouraged him to work out with her and with Tristan. Khloe, of course, gets up at like 6am every single day of her life so that she can start her day with a workout. Khloe also extends her sympathies to Chad. “And I think that people sympathize enough when people are body-shamed for being too thin.” It sounded like a lot of Chad's issues with his body were in his own mind — again, a product of toxic masculinity that pernicously seeps into men's minds. But body-shamed or not, if he wants his body to be a different way, he's welcome to pursue change. Khloe continues:  “My sister Kendall … When she was growing up, she was very skinny. She used to get bullied all of the time for being 'too skinny.'” To be fair, Kendall is a very slender woman even as an adult. But she's also hot for a living — she's a model. Some could argue that she's  skinny for a living , even. While Chad's body type likely presents zero health risks whatsoever, if he wants to live out his beefcake dreams (or just put on a little more muscle), good for him. Khloe can likely connect more with Allison, even though Allison's weight loss goals are a bit heftier than Khloe's have ever been. Different people, based upon genetics and body types and personal histories, will have more or less difficulty gaining or losing weight. It's important to realize that body-shaming, since even a literal supermodel like Kendall Jenner can be on the receiving end of it, is never about the recipient. It's always about the bully. If a guy like Chad has been body-shamed for being slender, it's because someone wanted to ruin his day because of their own issues. Allison, just like Rob Kardashian, should not be shamed for being overweight, and not just because she's working to change it. We only wish that Rob had realized that before he went off on Blac Chyna in a revenge porn attack last summer, posting her nudes and body-shaming her. Take a look at this video. Do you like the advice that Khloe is giving out?
