Roll Up The Partition Please: Beyonce’s Self Titled Album Ranked From Thotty To Wholesome

Originally posted here:

Source: Getty Beyonce said it herself, she changed the game when that digital dropped. On December 13, 2013, Queen Bey released her fifth solo album, Beyonce . The visual album, which premiered as an iTunes exclusive, featured 14 brand new songs and 14 music videos. It was a complete surprise to Beyonce fans who not only did not know she was working on new music and videos but were also watching Beyonce in concert at The Mrs. Carter Show when the album dropped. It was around midnight when fans noticed a Beyonce album banner had taken over iTunes. There it was, a black album cover with nothing but the name “Beyonce” in pink text. Who knew that one word, one album, could change the music industry as we know it. On this day, Beyonce proved that she was successfully able to shoot 14 music videos and keep it completely under wraps, despite involving the public in many of her videos. She was able to drop an album as an iTunes exclusive without promotion and without leaks and still sell over 800,000 units in just three short days. No one has been able to duplicate what Beyonce managed to do with that album. In fact, it’s because of Beyonce that album releases are now on Fridays rather than Tuesdays. This album was also a defining moment for Beyonce. It was her first post-Blue Ivy album and the first time she openly and unapologetically let her ratchet freak flag fly. To celebrate the five year anniversary of such an iconic piece of work, we rank Beyonce’s album from freaky deaky to squeaky clean. Starting with our most freaky   1. Partition (Yonce) By itself, “Yonce” wouldn’t be #1 on our list of freakiest songs on Beyonce but with the addition of “Partition”, it turns it up a notch. “Partition” is a thotty’s dream! It’s full of innuendos about car sex, fellatio and is probably Beyonce in her most risque form. She even threw in some freaky french. Yessss Bey!   Hit the flip for more.

Championships: Meek Mill Shares Title And Cover For Upcoming Album, Releasing November 30

Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital Meek Mill Releases More Info About Upcoming Album In a profile published yesterday by  Vogue ,  Meek Mill  confirmed that his new LP will be dropping on November 30. Now we’ve got even more news on the upcoming project,  including the official album title. The Philly rapper revealed both title and the cover art for the project through a tweet and an IG post he put up on Friday afternoon. “CHAMPIONSHIPS – 11/30” Meek tweeted between two trophy emojis, confirming that   Championships  to be the title for the project, along with the November 30 release date. This recent announcement comes shortly after teasing the LP’s release date as he took part in a criminal justice reform discussion at Georgetown University only a week ago. Though he confirmed the date of release in the aforementioned Vogue interview, he didn’t talk about the title of the album in the piece–but he did speak about dealing with the terms of his probation while fighting for criminal justice reform with big names like Jay-Z. “We’re taking a superhero approach, where we’re trying to do amazing things . . . things that have never been seen before,” Mill told  Vogue  about the group’s mission. “We started with a bold number, saying we’re trying to help free a million people, and we’re not saying free a million people out of prison. Half of these people are on probation or parole, or on cash bail and things like that.” Beyond just a release date and cover for the highly anticipated project, he also previewed his upcoming collaboration with Cardi B. In the video that accompanies  Vogue’s piece, Meek can be seen playing a clip from his new album, and confirms the track is with the Bronx rapper. Check out a first look at the album cover for Meek Mill’s upcoming  Championships  album below.

Forgot About Swizz: 6 Songs You Probably Didn’t Know Swizz Beatz Produced

Go here to see the original:

Source: Theo Wargo / Getty Swizz Beatz has been consistent in the game since he first hit the scene back in the late 90’s. 20 years later and the infamous producer is still responsible for some of the hottest songs on the charts today. Lil Wayne’s “Uproar” reminded people why Swizzy is one of the greatest to ever do it, and on Friday, the Bronx legend dropped his second studio album Poison featuring some of his Hip Hop colleagues including Kendrick Lamar, Pusha-T, Nas, Jadakiss and 2 Chainz. Swizz spoke to The Fader about his 10-track project and how his presence is needed right now in the music game, saying:   “I feel like real lyrics and music are needed. I’m not against other artists having fun and doing what they do, but as far as me having the experience and longevity that I have, what am I bringing to the table in 2018? That’s why I keep saying “quality” I don’t feel like there’s enough quality out there. There’s a lot of quantity.” And if you thought the Harvard Grad was just some old head, beat-maker who’s not in the know — you thought totally wrong. Swizz is so in tune with the current state of Hip Hop that he got J. Cole to Executive Produce his latest album. Big bro album out right now. POISON @THEREALSWIZZZ everybody snapped. pic.twitter.com/u9ZkCvAZZy — J. Cole (@JColeNC) November 2, 2018 Swizz told The Fader: “ He played the role of young mentor to me. I’m not too cool where I can’t have a young mentor, being as I’m a young OG. We were playing each other music, and then we started talking about things other than our projects, books, different things. One time, I was playing him songs from the album — before I had all these different sonic elements to the album, before separating them into four boxes. What I played you guys, where it stopped, he was like, “That’s the record. The other records you’re playing me, they’re huge, but I don’t think you need it.” And I’m like, “Are you crazy?” Two-decades in a Swizz Beatz is still a force to be reckoned with. But for some reason, folks don’t give credit to anything that happened before social media was a thing. But we’re here to remind you. Hit the flip to check out these songs you probably didn’t know Swizz Beatz produced.

The Rewind: Welcome Back Mr. Carter! Lil Wayne Is Back And Better Than Ever

See the rest here:

Source: The Rewind / Global Grind This week’s episode of The Rewind  is a very special one. This week was a historic one and Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are on hand to break it all down for us. Let’s start with the most important announcement of all. Out of nowhere, though we didn’t deserve it at all, Lil Wayne released the highly anticipated Tha Carter V on us. On September 28, one day after his birthday, Lil Wayne gifted fans with the album they had been waiting on for at least five years. The album, which is on track to be another #1 from Wayne, was loaded with a ton of celebrity talent, including production by Swizz Beatz and Zaytoven and features from Kendrick Lamar, XXXTentacion, Nicki Minaj, and Travis Scott. Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise take a moment to break down their favorite things about the album and then give it a 1-10 rating from their perspective. Next up, Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise discuss Logic’s new nearly 8 minute track, “Wu-Tang Forever” featuring Cappadonna, Masta Killa, U-God, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, GZA, RZA, and every other living member of the Wu you can think of. The song appears on Logic’s YSIV project. Obviously, Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise are huge hip hop heads but were they feeling this one from Logic? They take a moment to break down the record and give their honest rating. Do you agree with their review? The fellas then discuss the upcoming film, First Man , which hits theaters on October 12. The film is about NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon and focuses on Neil Armstrong, played by Ryan Gosling, during the years of 1961-1969. The film is based on a book by James R. Hansen which details a first hand account of everything that transpired during that historic period. It was rated highly by Rotton Tomatoes, which gave it an 88% rating but were Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise feeling it? You can find out all that and more when you check out this week’s episode of The Rewind ! Press play on the video above. Brought to you by Comcast.

Tha Carter V: The Good, Bad & Ugliest Reactions To Lil Wayne’s Latest Album

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty Lil Wayne fans have been waiting years for Tha Carter V to drop, and he finally gave them all what they’ve been wanting on Thursday night. As promised, Weezy released C5 on the night of his birthday, which pretty much added to the anticipation of the already highly anticipated album. If fans weren’t thirsty for it before, they were dehydrated earlier this week when Wayne added fuel to the fire and teased the album release date in an impromptu video he put out. Thank goodness he delivered; and the 23-track body of work has everyone and their mama talking about Wayne like it’s 2008. Die hard Weezy fans are just hype to get new music from their GOAT: if Carter V is trash we not admitting to it. idc. — Levi (@CountyBoySavage) September 27, 2018 Everyone else is just glad the wait is over, for sanity’s sake”. One young lady even tweeted , “I’m glad Carter V finally dropped so y’all can quit begging” C5 has been out for less than twelve hours and some folks all already calling it one of Weezy’s best: “Carter V is Everything!!! Don’t ever say Wayne ain’t the Best!!” – @1Goal1Dream “I’m finding it hard to pick a favorite on the Carter V. I swear everything is so goooood” .- @dee_sackey “Yall can say Carter V ain’t hittin if you want to be we all know the truth so cut it out” – @Slim_theGoat While others are on the fence: “After one listen I liked maybe 3 songs on that Carter V. I’ll have to run it back again and see if that improves but I doubt it.” – @LukeJamesBGN “I think people are hyped Tha Carter V finally dropped & it’s clouding their judgement ” – @893CP “Listened to the Carter V.. wasn’t moved” – @32assist “3 songs in and tha carter V is already trash… lil Wayne will never be the same smh” – @mpuggzz So many things have held up the release of C5 over the years that it seems like some folks are just love that it’s out, and don’t love the actual music itself.   First, Wayne had to fight and makeup with Birdman over money discrepancies. He once tweeted about C5 being shelved indefinitely, writing, “I am a prisoner and so is my creativity.”   Then he had beef with Young Thug who went on to name his album Barter 6 –  a play on Wayne’s “Tha Carter” discography. And Weezy was battling health issues , regarding his seizures and multiple stints in the hospital. But fortunately for him — and us — that Wayne train hasn’t stopped and he’s getting some of his flowers while he’s still here. Fresh off the release of his special album, Weezy will also be honored at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. Hit us up and tell us where you rank “Tha Carter V” in your list of favorite “Carter” albums. via GIPHY

Zendaya: Everyone Should Feel Represented When They Go To The Movies

The rest is here:

Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty Zendaya Coleman may play a yeti in her latest role, but she relates to her character more than you think. “She’s very bright and has this truth in her. It’s this sense of confidence and she knows what she feels is right in her heart,” says Zenaya. All of which can easily be said about the Hollywood starlet. Zendaya’s role in Smallfoot , is that of the young yeti, Meechee, who finds herself questioning the status quo. “This whole movie is about asking. So that’s what I try to do is just ask questions and don’t think I’m exempt from being wrong because I can always be wrong. I can always make the wrong decisions. I’m not perfect, but I try my best to learn. And again, like you said, hold myself accountable.” Zendaya boasts about the voice of her co-star Common, who lends his vocal prowess to the Stonekeeper. LeBron James, Channing Tatum, Yara Shahidi, James Coredon and Danny Devito also star in the kid’s flick. “[Meechee] knows what she feels is right in her heart and she’s really doing anything to prove that. She happens to be the Stonekeepers daughter, played by Common, who’s the perfect, authoritative, regal voice.” At 22-years-old, Zendaya knows a thing or two about “voice.”  She is well-respected among her Hollywood peers and fans who adore her candor, style and bold stances where other celebrities may remain silent. “I try to do things for the right reasons. I’m never doing anything for people’s opinions or if it’s not sitting right,” she says. “If it doesn’t feel right to me, then that’s when I know something’s wrong. I’m not afraid to admit when I don’t know something.” The former Disney star’s fan base is comprised of young women. “I’m lucky to have people look up to me in that way. I try to do my best to inspire other people to do their best.” Zendaya’s star continues to rise, but her family keeps her humble. “They have absolutely no problem telling me about myself and [they] keep me grounded. They create this barrier and if they’re like my protection group, you know, which is really great to have so that I’m lucky to have.” Zendaya makes an effort to encourage change in the industry by refusing to take certain roles and constantly speaking up for all people of color when it comes to representation in media. “We obviously have a lot further to go with our representation of people in media, whether that be black women, or any in any person of color really. We all want to get to a point where everybody feels represented and feels like they can go to the movies and see themselves on the screen.” As for what Zendaya has coming up, it is rumored she will be starring as the Little Mermaid in the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic. While she made it clear, those are just rumors, she said she would love the honor to play Arielle. “I mean, why not? I loved that movie growing up. Those are my favorites. We would love to see it happen. If it happens. It’s a great thing if it doesn’t instill a great thing.” Catch Zendaya in Smallfoot when it hits theaters on September 28.
