’30 Minutes Or Less’ Stars Call Car Chases ‘Easy’ At MTV’s Sneak Peek Week

Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson share their action-hero dreams at Q&A session. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson Photo: MTV News WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — The bar was set super high Friday night (June 3) during MTV’s final Sneak Peek Week screening. Since Monday, we’d been showing early looks at some of the summer’s hottest films and having crazy chats with the various casts. Take, for instance, the moment “Horrible Bosses” star Jason Sudeikis launched into a filthily hilarious explanation of the “The Twilight Saga” : the vampire story as told by a “Star Wars”-obsessed, mind-in-the-gutter comedian. The pressure was on Friday, and the guys from “30 Minutes or Less” — stars Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson and director Reuben Fleischer — were more than up to the task. Their upcoming action/comedy, it should be said, served as quite the warm-up act for the crowd at the Pacific Design Center. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as a beer-guzzling, joint-sucking pizza delivery boy who gets sucked into a harebrained scheme, hatched by slackers played by Danny McBride and Swardson, to rob a bank. Eisenberg’s character, with a bomb strapped to his chest and only hours to complete the heist, enlists his pal, a teacher played by Ansari, to help out in the crime. Things do not go very well, to hilarious results. The part represents Ansari’s biggest onscreen role to date. “This is the first time I’ve been around the whole movie,” he said. “Usually I’ll be around for a few minutes, and then they’re like, ‘Just say something about your penis and get out of here!’ ” It was all new for Swardson, too, who cracked that perhaps he has the makings of an action-hero career. “Maybe I’ll be the Predator!” Is launching such a career as easy as that? According to Ansari, at least, the car-chase portion of action flicks is a breeze. “Car chases are pretty easy,” he said. “You’re like, ‘Oooohhhhhhh!’ OK, let’s get another one. ‘Whooooooooa! Look out!’ ” On second thought, though, maybe these guys aren’t cut out to inherent the cinematic thrones of Stallone and Schwarzenegger. It just takes so damn long to shoot one of these flicks, Ansari said. After production wrapped on “30 Minutes,” he added, “I watched ‘Fast Five,’ and I was like, ‘How did this movie not take 20 years to make? Did Vin Diesel start making this when he was 5?’ ” Though Eisenberg and McBride couldn’t make the Q&A, the duo did tape a message for the crowd. “I sent my family a similar taped message at Thanksgiving,” McBride confessed. Said Eisenberg, “We hope you liked the movie. But if you didn’t, by this point it’s on you, because you’re still there.” As the laughter rolled in, no one seemed to be complaining about spending their Friday night at Sneak Peek Week. Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. VMA Host Chelsea Handler Gets Wacky Advice From Aziz Ansari

2010 MTV Movie Awards host advises Handler to “do drugs” in preparation for Sunday night’s gig. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Maybe by now Aziz Ansari has recovered from the spoof-creating, joke-spewing, celebrity-razzing intensity of hosting the MTV Movie Awards in June. He’s had time to process his moments sharing the screen with Justin Bieber and the “Twilight” kids. In short, he’s a veteran, and as he looks forward to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 12), the comedian has one piece of advice for host Chelsea Handler: Do drugs! “You know, I just did a lot of cocaine in the weeks leading up to it, just to keep my energy up so I could stay up and write material,” he joked during an interview with MTV News. “It’s a lot of work.” Of course, he can laugh about his preparation now, but a couple of months ago, Aziz was furiously prepping for the biggest gig of his life. “I’ve watched ‘Twilight’ a bunch. I’ve watched ‘Avatar’ 400 times,” he told us back in April. “I’ve been stalking Daniel Radcliffe.” OK, maybe Ansari is always joking. But then again, so is Chelsea Handler . Of Justin Bieber, she told us recently, “He’s a two-face is what he is. He acted like we were in a committed relationship, and then he was prancing around with Kim Kardashian on the beaches like they’re a couple.” So if Handler isn’t going to embark on a whirlwind romance with young Bieber in preparation for the VMAs, perhaps she might be wise to listen to what Aziz has to say. “I would just say, if you’re not using cocaine, start using it so you can really get your energy up and keep going and get stuff done because it’s a lot of work,” Ansari advised Handler. “But you’ll have a lot of fun and it’ll be a blast.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday. Aziz Ansari Sings "F–k You, BP" At MTV Awards (VIDEO)

Aziz Ansari Sings “F–k You, BP” At MTV Awards (VIDEO) We've seen many shots taken at BP over the past few weeks, but perhaps the best way to take a jab at the petroleum company is to tag it on to an R. Kelly-inspired tribute to “Avatar.” Host Aziz Ansari did just that during last night's MTV Movie Awards, belting out, “It's a bummer when nature gets destroyed by greed, which reminds me, one more thing: F–k you, BP.” Oh, and it doesn't hurt to repeat it a few times while humping the air. added by: TimALoftis

Aziz Ansari Handicaps The MTV Movie Awards

‘I vote Christoph [Waltz] all the way,’ host says of ‘Inglourious Basterds’ star’s Best Villain nod. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: Jesse Grant/ Getty Images With the 2010 MTV Movie Awards getting closer and closer to showtime (roughly four days and a few hours left to go!), we thought it would be a good idea to check in with the night’s esteemed host, Aziz Ansari , to see how he’s handling the pressure, what he’s preparing and, most importantly, who he thinks deserves to win. On getting the call to come host the show, the “Parks and Recreation” star admitted he was “excited,” yet “stunned all the people in ‘Twilight’ weren’t available.” Speaking of the famed vampire-centric franchise, Ansari said that he’s been watching the films as part of his preparation. “I watched ‘Twilight’ a bunch, ‘Avatar’ 400 times,” he said. “I’ve been stalking Daniel Radcliffe, whatever I can do to get those movies in my head.” He’s also been doing a lot of writing for the show, adding, “I want to make sure all of my short films meet the high bar met by previous hosts.” Regarding the potential winners, Ansari had some pointed opinions, particularly with the Best Villain and Best Comedic Performance categories. “I gotta throw my bit behind Christoph Waltz [“Inglourious Basterds”],” he said of the Best Villain race. “That was an incredible performance. I vote Christoph all the way.” Ansari also mentioned a character that was overlooked in that category. “In ‘The Blind Side,’ did society get nominated as Best Villain?” he joked. “That’s my vote: society. Or poverty.” So who would get up and accept that award? “I think we all would have to get up and get that award,” Ansari responded. The funnyman’s pick for Best Comedic Performance was slightly more challenging, especially since we pointed out that he wasn’t nominated in that category himself. “I know, I guess they looked over me,” he said, unfazed. “I’d have to go with Robert Pattinson in ‘Remember Me’ for that category. … No, I was a big fan of Zach Galifianakis’ performance in ‘The Hangover.’ He’s been around for so long. He’s never had the opportunity to be funny in a movie like that, and they gave it to him, and he knocked it out of the park.” Ansari ended our chat with suggestions for new categories, including Why the F— Did They Make This Movie and Best Piece of S— Performance. Justin Bieber Gets Disrespect From Jeremy Renner In MTV Movie Awards Promo

Aziz Ansari tells Renner, ‘That’s Justin Bieber, bro! People don’t talk back to him!’ By Josh Wigler Although his romantic movie date with Kristen Bell didn’t go so well, 2010 MTV Movie Awards host Aziz Ansari is giving “The Hurt Locker” another shot alongside teen sensation Justin Bieber. In a new promo for the June 6 awards show, Ansari and Bieber saddle up with some soda cans and potato chips to watch the critically acclaimed war movie in 4-D — a viewing experience that brings actor Jeremy Renner’s bomb disposal efforts straight out of the screen and right into the living room. But as Ansari begins gleefully cheering and Bieber starts eating his snacks too loudly during one particularly intense sequence, a visibly frustrated Renner loses his cool. “Relax on the chips there, cowboy,” Renner warns Bieber, prompting a startled Ansari to issue a warning of his own: “That’s Justin Bieber, bro! People don’t talk back to him!” Renner tells Ansari that he doesn’t know who Justin Bieber is, and frankly, he doesn’t care — not when there are deadly improvised explosive devices waiting to be disarmed. But Renner’s cell phone betrays those claims once it starts ringing for the whole room to hear — playing none other than “Baby,” Bieber’s chart-topping single. “You know exactly who Justin Bieber is!,” an angry Ansari exclaims as he leaps out of his chair. “And you just disrespected him!” As Ansari fumes like a freshly detonated bomb, Bieber keeps his rage in check with one last potato chip — a snack he eats while keeping his eyes firmly locked on the disrespectful Renner. Clearly, disrespecting Bieber is an act of insubordination! Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV!
