However, the married man in question, Antwaun Cook, says the singer is not responsible for breaking up his relationship. “He knew Fantasia Barrino but the failure of his marriage can in no way be blamed on anyone except the two people that were a part of the union — Paula and Antwaun,” Cook’s lawyer, Nicole Sodoma, said in a statement on Wednesday (August 18). Sodoma also says that Cook and his wife have been separated for about a year. “Paula and Antwaun married in 2005. They expected their marriage to stand the test of time,” Sodoma said in the statement. “Unfortunately, like many marriages, it did not turn out as planned. In late summer 2009, after years of discussion, the parties separated with the intention of no longer being married.” Last week, Barrino was hospitalized following an apparent suicide attempt. The season-three “American Idol” winner suffered a drug overdose after ingesting a combination of aspirin and a sleep aid. Rumors abounded that the singer’s alleged relationship with Cook was a factor in her apparent attempt to take her own life. The incident occurred roughly a week after Cook’s wife, Paula, filed court documents alleging that her spouse and Barrino engaged in a “covert adulterous affair” and created a sex tape together . Despite recovering from her overdose and weathering criticism from fans about her alleged relationship with Cook, Barrino is already back to promoting her new album . The “Bittersweet” singer has several scheduled television appearances in the next few weeks as she builds buzz for the release for her third album, Back to Me, which is set to drop on August 24.
