When Animals Attack: Shakira Gets Bitten By… A Sea Lion??? AND A Baboon Jumps On Her Car!

Hoy in mi gente news… Poor Shakira tweeted about an unfortunate run-in with a sea lion while traveling in South Africa: She tweeted photos of her injuries as well: And took to her Facebook to describe the attack: This afternoon I happened to see some sea lions and seals. I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them doing a baby talk while taking pictures… Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralyzed by fear and couldn’t move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother “Super Tony” jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast. We both got our hands and legs scratched by the rocks while trying to protect ourselves. I believe what happened is that it confused the shiny reflection of the blackberry I was taking these pics with, with some sort of fish. It probably thought I was teasing it with food and then taking it away from it. Wow! It’s funny that only half an hour before I was complaining to my guide Andrew that I never get to see wild animals up close on adventurous trips. Oh well, I can’t say that anymore!! Now I’m off to see some penguins! I hope they are a bit more friendly! Shak Dang… Get well soon Shakira. That wasn’t where the animal adventures ended though. Hit the flip for more of Shakira’s encounters with the wild in South Africa.

My name is Carla, I’m 14 and from Lima, Peru . I am a true belieber. I was waiting for Justin for about 2 years and I had the chance to go to his concert. I participated in Bieberfever’s contest to get meet & greets but I didn’t win. On October 17 th,  I went to Los Delfines Hotel to see Cobra Starship and team Bieber. The first person that I saw was Kanec (he is the best person in the world, he is so friendly) then I met Cobra Starship and Dan Kanter! He took a picture of me because I had a sign that said, “Peru knows the DJ” and he sent it to the DJ Tay James! I saw that the background of his Blackberry was him and Justin! At 5:00 pm, I arrived to the stadium. I was in the first row. When Cobra Starship appeared, Gabe saw my friends’ “Cobra Starship Peru loves you” sign and made us a heart with his hands. Then the countdown started for Justin. I was crying    and Justin appeared singing ‘Love Me’. I saw Dan so I called him and he gave me his guitar pick! I saw Alfredo too and I said, “HI FREDO! I LOVE YOU”, and he smiled. When Justin sang ‘Down to earth’, he jumped off the stage and he held my hand. Those were the most beautiful seconds in my life. When Justin said: ‘Where are the single ladies here? I raised my hand and he told me, “YOU?” I was shocked, he’s so cute. Dan and Legaci saw me when I was crying, there was one of the best concerts in my life, Thank you Justin I love you -@itsrunawaylove Link: My name is Carla, I’m 14 and from Lima, Peru. I am a true…

Tyler, The Creator’s ‘Yonkers’: A VMA Cheat Sheet

Odd Future MC makes his VMA debut with nominations for Video of the Year and Best New Artist. By Rob Markman Tyler, the Creator Photo: Julian Berman He’s a self-proclaimed “f—in’ walkin’ paradox,” and in 2011, contradiction is the new “keeping it real,” as Tyler, the Creator proved each time he opened his mouth — whether to rap or eat a cockroach. Much like his music, Tyler’s breakout video for “Yonkers” was as shocking as it was artistic, earning him VMA noms for Best New Artist and Video of the Year. “I’m really excited, shout-out to Ron Artest. If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele’s,” Tyler told MTV News of his nomination in July. Tyler himself directed the black-and-white clip for “Yonkers” under the alias Wolf Haley. The song’s rhyme couplets are as striking as the images. The rebel rapper basically told Christ to grow a pair when he spit, “Jesus called, he said he’s sick of the disses/ I told him to quit bitchin’, this isn’t a f—in’ hot line.” It is rabblerousing like this that propelled Tyler and his crew of hip-hop misfits Odd Future to the forefront of rap’s conversation this year. The actual art seemingly took a backseat with critics. It all erupted in 2009 when Tyler released his free digital album, Bastard. The online fanfare would spill over, shining a light on Creator’s group as well: Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. In addition to Tyler, there is the exiled Earl, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Domo Genesis, Mike G and R&B fire-starter Frank Ocean, among others. By the time Tyler and the group performed the single “Sandwitches” with the Roots on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” in February, the hype began to spill over, and seemingly everyone was talking about the rapping kid who decorated his stage with gnomes and wore a green ski mask on national television. Simple yet effective, the “Yonkers” video — which has racked up more than 18 million views on YouTube — starts with the rapper seated on a stool, rapping the song’s lyrics while playing with a large cockroach, which he later throws up. A visibly disturbed Tyler continues to spit the track’s second verse, stripping off his shirt then putting his neck in a noose. In the video’s shocking ending, the MC stands up on the chair and kicks the stool from under his feet as his legs dangle in a simulated suicide. “Damn, I’m Looking At The Video Treatment I wrote In This Blackberry Back In Jan. F—!” Tyler tweeted after he learned of the nomination. For someone who notoriously bucks critics and mainstream music outlets, snagging a Moonman is pretty high on Tyler, the Creator’s to-do list. Then again he is a “f—in’ walkin’ paradox.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Dave Grohl Spreads The Gospel Of Rock

MTV News spent the day with the Foo Fighters frontman and realized he’s on a mission … from Freddie Mercury. By James Montgomery Interviewing the Foo Fighters on Thursday night Photo: Jonathan Mussman / MTV News Dave Grohl is sprawled out on a couch inside his trailer, flipping through photos on his Blackberry, largely ignoring everything happening around him (a list of potential distractions that, at this moment, includes “Pat Smear getting makeup applied to his face,” “Nate Mendel sitting next to a plate of vegetables,” and “Taylor Hawkins shouting about Queen’s ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ “) when all of a sudden, he stops, looks up at me and thrusts his phone in my face. “Look at this, man, let me show you something,” he says, presenting me with a photo of him shaking hands with President Barack Obama. “Don’t f— this up.” He is only kidding, in that faux-serious way that he is better than pretty much anyone (or at least anyone who used to be in Nirvana) at trying to psyche me out minutes before we go live on MTV for the premiere of the Foo Fighters’ “Rope” video . So, I make a joke about how he was really slumming it with me, at which point he quickly pulls the device back to his chest, finds another picture and shows it to me. “Don’t be like that,” he scolds. “Be like this. ” It’s a photo of late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, decked out all in white, addressing the masses during the band’s legendary 1985 Live Aid performance, a photo that captures everything that was great and majestic about not only the band, but rock and roll in general. And in showing it to me, not only does Dave Grohl confirm the fact that he is a terrifyingly huge Queen fan (the kind that carries photos of Mercury on his Blackberry), but he also reveals what may very well be his guiding principle: Believe in nothing less than the life-affirming power of rock. It’s an outlook that has led him to share the stage with Jimmy Page and record albums with Lemmy Kilmister, an enthusiasm that belies the fact that he is 42 years old and has been playing in bands for nearly 30 of those years. And above all else, it is why — despite being (at the very least) a key cog or (at the very most) the driving force behind two of the biggest rock acts of the past 20 years — he is not above messing around with a guy like me, or keeping pictures of Freddy Mercury on his phone. He is, first and foremost, a rock-obsessed super-fan, a true believer. In other words, he is not all that different from you or me. Only with better connections. But what makes Grohl different is that he uses those connections to spread the gospel. It’s why he decided to record the Foos’ new album, Wasting Light in his own garage, why he recruited Bob Mould (of Grohl’s all-time favorite acts, Husker Du) to sing on the song “Dear Rosemary,” and why he reunited with former Nirvana mate Krist Novoselic on the stunning “I Should Have Known.” It’s what any of us would’ve done if we were in his shoes: make the record of our dreams, our way, with our heroes and friends. On one hand, it’s a selfish move, on the other, it’s selfless … dutiful even. Rock has been good to Dave Grohl, and so now he will be good to it, by honoring — and harnessing — its powers for good. And all of that may seem like utter nonsense, but take one look at Grohl any time he’s onstage — the goofy smile, the wild eyes, the genuine sense of abandon he displays — and try to tell me he’s not being sincere. Or, better yet, watch him interact with his fans, like I did on Thursday in Northridge, California, at the home of Shivan Somaratne, the Foo Fighters fanatic who was chosen by MTV to host the premiere of “Rope.” Grohl truly was in his element, cracking jokes, posing for pictures, signing albums and T-shirts and even a chest or two. He was genuinely touched when Somaratne told him that the first song he ever learned to play on guitar was the Foo’s “Everlong” — though he was quick to laugh, “Well, it’s a simple song” — and seemed grateful when Somaratne handed him a demo CD he had just recorded with his band. You got the feeling he was even going to listen to it. This was a man who put himself on the same level as the kids in a California suburb, despite 20 years of evidence to the contrary. A man who showed up to the premiere of his new video wearing the same clothes he wore in the video. A man who purchased, customized and fully stocked a white limousine, for no real reason other than it’s sort of an awesome thing to do. In other words, this was Dave Grohl doing what he does best: living as the embodiment of rock’s true power, and by doing so, encouraging others to do the same thing. It’s what makes him so likable and humble, and what separates him from 95 percent of other rock stars in his strata. He does not take himself seriously in the very least but he takes rock and roll incredibly seriously. Which is probably why, minutes before we went live, he grabbed me, looked me square in my eyes and said, “Don’t be nervous.” Or why, after we had made it through the premiere, he smiled and said, simply, “You didn’t f— it up.” And he wasn’t joking this time. He is perhaps rock’s purest ambassador, a man on a mission to spread the good word (or at least buy some Queen albums). On some level, Dave Grohl wants us all to be rock stars.
