Dave Grohl Set For ‘Sound City’ Sundance Gig

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will be among the group of first-time filmmakers at this year’s Sundance Film Festival , but he will likely be the only one to also play an anticipated gig at the annually anticipated event which opens January 17th. The feature, which will screen in Sundance’s Documentary Premieres section, is the brainchild of Grohl who conceived the story after purchasing a custom-built 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year. The board was built in 1972 and considered to be a “crown jewel of analog recording equipment,” having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns and Roses, Fear, Grohl’s former band, Nirvana as well as Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and others. The film Sound City showcases the most talented group of musicians in the world and we are thrilled they chose to celebrate the documentary at Park City Live,” said Kathryn Burns, CEO of Park City Live where the concert will take place via a statement. “The evening will be spectacular and we look forward to seeing who will join Dave Grohl and the Sound City Players onstage.” The venue is not a regular Sundance space, but will be one of many ancillary events that take place around the festival. The film’s soundtrack, Sound City — Real to Reel , is a collection of original music created specifically for the film and this companion record. Preceded by currently available first single “Cut Me Some Slack”–performed by Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear. Grohl’s personal connection to Sound City began with the 1991 recording of Nirvana’s breakthrough album, “Nevermind”. Selling over 30 million copies worldwide.

Phonte Explains How Collab With Lil’ B Happened

The rest is here:

Yesterday evening, Phonte of the Foreign Exchange released his collaboration with Lil’ B The Based God , Jean Grae, and 9th Wonder , “ Base For Your Face .”  On the 20th episode of his Gordon Gartrell Radio podcast with DJ Brainchild, Phonte explains how the collaboration came to be. Phonte says he was at work on his upcoming solo rap record and wanted to have a feature that would make people say “WTF?” Lil’ B the Based God was one of the first people that came to mind.  Fast forward awhile later, and Phonte gets a call from 9th Wonder after they reconciled. 9th said he’d been talking with Lil’ B about working on a song. “I was thinking about guests for my solo record, and I went through some of the usual suspects, cats that I usually f*ck with,” Phonte said. “But I was like ‘Man, I need that one wild card feature. That one feature that just comes out of nowhere.’ So I was thinking about Lil’ B. “Top of the year comes and me and 9th reconcile.  So we’re on the horn the other day and he’s like ‘I talked to Lil’ B today.’ I said ‘N*gga you talked to Lil’ B the Based God???’ He said ‘Yes! I rapped with the Based God himself.’ We started talking, and he said that Lil’ B wanted to do some work and get it in. I said ‘Well let’s see what he’s talking about.’  Originally the track was just Lil’ B and 9th.  9th hit me two nights ago and said “I got the joint! What’s up?’ He sent it to me. I listened to it and said ‘If you really wanna do this, I should drop a verse on it.’” Listen to the full explanation, plus an exclusive mix from DJ Brainchild at www.gordongartrellradio.com ! AZ Anti-Immigrant Wing To Target Children

Arizona Republicans are expected to introduce legislation this fall that would strip citizenship status of those children born in the U.S. to undocumented citizens, dubbed quite offensively as “anchor babies,” as the state’s anti-immigrant wing goes even crazier than previously thought possible. —JCL Yahoo! News: “Anchor babies” isn’t a very endearing term, but in Arizona those are the words being used to tag children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants. While not new, the term is increasingly part of the local vernacular because the primary authors of the nation’s toughest and most controversial immigration law are targeting these tots – the legal weights that anchor many undocumented aliens in the U.S. – for their next move. Buoyed by recent public opinion polls suggesting they’re on the right track with illegal immigration, Arizona Republicans will likely introduce legislation this fall that would deny birth certificates to children born in Arizona – and thus American citizens according to the U.S. Constitution – to parents who are not legal U.S. citizens. The law largely is the brainchild of state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican whose suburban district, Mesa, is considered the conservative bastion of the Phoenix political scene. He is a leading architect of the Arizona law that sparked outrage throughout the country: Senate Bill 1070, which allows law enforcement officers to ask about someone’s immigration status during a traffic stop, detainment or arrest if reasonable suspicion exists – things like poor English skills, acting nervous or avoiding eye contact during a traffic stop. But the likely new bill is for the kids. While SB 1070 essentially requires of-age migrants to have the proper citizenship paperwork, the potential “anchor baby” bill blocks the next generation from ever being able to obtain it. The idea is to make the citizenship process so difficult that illegal immigrants pull up the “anchor” and leave. Read more
