Emma Stone Lights Up for Interview Magazine

Emma Stone is featured in the latest issue of Interview . A very different Emma Stone, we should say. The wildly popular actress – seriously, who didn’t adore her in Easy A … or The Help … or Crazy, Stupid Love ? – covers September’s edition of this magazine and brings a futuristic, serious look to its pages. Also, a cigarette… Stone is actually interviewed by director Cameron Crowe for the piece and tells him that she’s still a work in progress when it comes to this fame thing. “I don’t think that I’ve been deft at hiding parts of my personality,” the actress says of giving print interviews. “I have not mentioned parts of my life, for sure – although I have talked about my childhood more now and anxiety and that side of myself. I don’t think that people would expect that I would have panic attacks… Or I don’t know if they would, because I don’t know what people expect of me. I have no idea.” Stone also says fans may actually know someone like Taylor Swift because she “tells her own stories.” But it’s different for an actress. “I’m playing characters, so that kind of authenticity of self in this job is a little bit different. A lot of times I feel like people come up to me because they think I’m like my character in Easy A , or because they’ve seen me in interviews, but really what they’re a fan of is a movie or a character.” Pick up the latest issue of Interview for more. (P.S. We frickin LOVE Emma Stone!!!)

REVIEW: Cameron Crowe Tries, and Fails, to Freshen a Treacly Tale in We Bought a Zoo

Cameron Crowe can be a big old cheeseball, but he’s never been a filmmaker to come across as cynical or calculatedly manipulative. That’s one of the reasons We Bought a Zoo doesn’t leave your heartstrings feeling brutally manhandled, despite being a treacly tale about how a widower in search of a fresh start buys and moves to a struggling animal park with his two beautiful, sad children. The other reason is Matt Damon, who underplays the role of still-grieving dad Benjamin Mee as much as possible and brings an edge of genuine frustration to his relationship with his teenage son Dylan (Colin Ford). Though overall the film’s still as honey-toned as the golden sunshine that slants through most of its scenes, the occasional glimpse of a rough human edge means this isn’t just an exercise in mawkishness, though it’s also nowhere near as emotionally resonant as it strives to be.

About That Time Cameron Crowe Fired Ashton Kutcher

“I’ll spend months working with an actor, and I think I spent four months with Ashton,” the filmmaker said recently about his time prepping Kutcher for 2005’s Elizabethtown . But the actor, who was still starring in That 70’s Show at the time, refused to devote a few weeks to the ill-fated project co-starring Kirsten Dunst. At the time, Crowe realized, “This is not meant to be,” dropped Kutcher and replaced him with Orlando Bloom. Although the film bombed at the box office, Crowe still remembers it favorably: ” Elizabethtown was a movie made for all the right reasons, and people who connect with the movie really connect to it.” [ THR ]
