Chelsea Clinton is a mother for the first time. The global activist and former First Daughter, 34, welcomed a baby girl with her husband Marc Mezvinsky! “Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky,” Clinton wrote late Friday night. Months after announcing she and Mezvinsky hoped to make 2014 the “Year of the Baby,” Chelsea, confirmed in April that the couple were expecting. “I certainly feel all the better whether it’s a girl or a boy that she or he will grow up in world filled with so many strong female leaders,” she said. Appropriately, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s only child made the announcement at a Clinton Foundation event for the empowerment of girls and young women. Her mom, the former Secretary of State, has been excited for the arrival, stockpiling kids’ books and planning to have a car seat in her own vehicle. “I want to babysit any chance I get!” the former First Lady said at a political gathering in September, “Bill and I are on constant grandchild watch.” Chelsea kept a busy pace at the Clinton Global Initiative just days before Charlotte’s arrival. Hopefully now she’ll get some well needed rest (just kidding)! New parent humor. The former Dancing with the Stars contestant – who was originally selected by Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor , only to be quickly dumped for Molly Mesnick – welcomed a son into the world yesterday. Her rep confirmed the exciting news to People. Beckett Thomas Strickland was born to Rycroft and husband Tye in the afternoon, weighing in at 7 lbs., 7 oz. and measuring 19.2 inches in length. “This little guy has been teasing us about his arrival for the last month so it is only fitting that he surprise us with his arrival on Easter Sunday,” Rycroft said in a statement, adding of her two kids: “He’s perfect and beautiful. Ava can’t wait for us to bring him home to be able to show us all of the big sister duties she’s been practicing.” Rycroft was involved in arguably the most controversial Bachelor finale in history, getting the boot from Jason on air… though clearly rebounding very well. Chelsea Clinton is pregnant and expecting her first child with husband Marc Mezvinsky. The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the news during the Girls: A No Ceilings Conversation event in NYC on Thursday, April. 17. “One more thing to say very quickly,” the 34-year-old addressed the crowd. “Mark and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year. I certainly feel all the better whether it’s a girl or a boy that they’ll grow up in a world with so many strong female leaders…” “I just hope that I’ll be as good to my child as my mom was to me,” she added. As mom Hillary replied: “I’m expecting a grand child which I’m very excited about. We’re very excited about what’s happening in our family but we’re also very excited about what we’re doing.” Dad Bill couldn’t help but gush himself following the event. “Excited to add a new line to my Twitter bio…grandfather-to-be!” he tweeted. “@hillaryclinton and I are so happy for Chelsea and Marc!” Chelsea added on Facebook: “Marc and I are so thrilled to be expecting our first child in the fall! U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remained hospitalized Wednesday for treatment of a blood clot in her head, as daughter Chelsea tweeted from her bedside. After being photographed looking visibly distraught outside the hospital, Chelsea wrote that she was grateful to be starting the new year with her family. “Wishing all a healthy & happy 2013,” Chelsea, 32, wrote. “Grateful to be starting the new year with my family.” Former President Bill Clinton has been spotted driving to and from his wife’s side at New York-Presbyterian Hospital for much of the past 48 hours. Hillary is being treated with blood thinners to help dissolve the clot, which is located in a vein behind her right ear that helps carry blood away from the brain. In a statement yesterday, doctors assured it was not a life-threatening condition and assured that Clinton had suffered no brain damage or stroke. “In all aspects of her recovery, the Secretary is making excellent progress and we are confident she will make a full recovery,” Drs. Lisa Bardack and Gigi El-Bayoumi said. A clot occurs when a blockage builds up, either from partial thrombus (coagulated blood) or an outside compression. When the vein becomes blocked, the coagulated blood may extend to veins draining the area, which could lead to a lack of oxygen and tissue death. For Clinton, ‘the particular vein they’re talking about, there are enough other areas for the blood to travel through so it doesn’t build up in the brain,’ Dr Sanjay Gupta said on CNN. The condition can be treated with blood thinners administered over several months until the clot breaks down. Doctors are keeping her under their watchful eye as they adjust the dose of her anti-clotting medication. Chelsea, who was spotted leaving the hospital Monday by the New York Daily News, was the first member of the Clinton family to be seen publicly at the hospital. Chelsea, 32, a special correspondent for NBC News, looked upset as she left the hospital – cell phone in hand. She ignored questions from a reporter and went back inside. Aides and doctors say Clinton contracted a stomach virus in early December and became dehydrated, then fainted, fell and hit her head on December 9. She was diagnosed with a concussion on December 13 and hasn’t been seen in public since.

If you thought the media’s obsession with Chelsea Clinton’s July 31 wedding went a little overboard, you’re not alone. A new poll has found that a majority of Americans think there was too much coverage of the wedding at the expense of real news. The News Interest Index Survey, conducted July 29 through August 1 by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found that 58 percent of respondents felt there was “too much” coverage of the Clinton wedding. As the Culture and Media Institute reported , the three broadcast networks – ABC, CBS and NBC – aired 87 stories about Clinton’s nuptials between July 25 and August 1. That represented a 48-percent increase over coverage of former first daughter Jenna Bush’s wedding in 2008. Networks had reporters on the scene in Rhinebeck, N.Y., and brought in gossip columnists and celebrity wedding planners to dish on the event. But at what cost? Other news happened over the weekend, after all, including continued drama in the Gulf of Mexico and fallout over the leak of classified documents related to the war inAfghanistan, as well as economy and immigration issues. Americans noticed, according to the survey. While half believed the media delivered the “right amount” of coverage on the oil spill, pluralities felt there was “too little” coverage of the “Afghan War Diary” leak (41 percent) and the economy (42 percent).
