Race Matters: Michigan State Senator Says Black Schools Could Be “Fixed” By Making Students White

State Sen. Knollenberg Makes Racist Comments About Black Students GOP State Senator Marty Knollenberg from Troy is responding to outrage over what he said during an education committee meeting in Lansing Thursday according to WXYZ reports: “You mentioned these school districts failing, and you mention economically disadvantaged and non-white population are the contributors to that. I know we can’t fix that. We can’t make an African-American white. That’s just, it is what it is,” Knollenberg said during the meeting recorded on camera by the state. He was talking about failing school districts all over the state. Natasha Baker, the state school reform officer and Karen McPhee, the senior advisor for education to Gov. Rick Snyder, were answering questions for the committee when the comment was made. Baker responded during the meeting, saying, “We didn’t get here because someone is poor. We didn’t get here because someone is black. We got here for a variety of reasons.” “I was disgusted to hear any human, especially an elected official who is responsible for creating policy, to talk that way,” said Rep Brian Banks, (D-Detroit) “It is clear you have some built in racism. It is clear you are out of touch with reality. As an elected official, as one of your colleagues, you owe us an apology.” “It was as racist a comment as anyone can make,” said David Decker, the President of the American Federation of Teachers in Michigan. “It is scary to think an elected official thinks that. Discuss.

Fawk A Republican Thug: GOP Newsletter Calls For Armed Revolution If Obama Is Re-Elected

Yo these people are wildin. Conservative Newsletter Calls For Armed Revolution If Obama Is Re-Elected After surviving two terms with an idiot President who sent the nation into a war based on lies and allowed greedy banks and the mortgage industry to drive us into the worst recession ever but these wanksters wanna go and get their guns on the man who has tried to clean up the mess? SMH: A monthly newsletter published by the Greene County Republican Committee in Virginia is raising eyebrows for including a column in its March edition that calls for an “armed revolution” if President Barack Obama is elected to a second term in November. Among articles denouncing a University of Virginia initiative to implement a living wage for employees of the institution, questioning if Obama is “America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President?” and an op-ed slamming the GOP establishment with generous use of capital letters, RightWingWatch picks out a column from the newsletter’s editor, Ponch McPhee. In it, McPhee urges readers to encourage other conservatives to vote in November. He goes on to warn that the consequences of not defeating Obama, a so-called “ideologue unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized,” would be dire. “[W]e shall not have any coarse [sic] but armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November,” McPhee writes. “This Republic cannot survive for 4 more years underneath this political socialist ideologue.” A disclaimer at the bottom of the publication apparently attempts to account for this type of rhetoric, noting that the contributors do “not reflect the opinion of the Republican Party whole or in part” and are only representative of the “individual” — in this case, the editor himself. It’s crazy how reckless these people get. Armed revolution? This guy is on that treason isht right now. He needs a ho sit down. Source

Elvis Mitchell on John Barry’s Overlooked Gems — and Enduring Influence

I was stranded on the West Coast when news of composer John Barry’s death broke last week — away from my music collection, which I wanted to get to and remind myself of his vast contribution to movies.

Michael Jackson Producers Defend Posthumous Michael Album

‘Michael mentored me so much to where I kind of knew how to complete his sentences,’ Theron ‘Neff-U’ Feemster tells MTV News of picking up where MJ left off. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Michael Jackson’s Michael Photo: Epic Records Michael Jackson ‘s first posthumous album, Michael, has been met with mixed emotions by fans of the King of Pop. Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am lashed out at MJ’s estate for commissioning the album, while Akon, a contributor on the project, hailed the effort. Some of the songwriters and producers behind Michael are simply asking people to give it a chance before making a decision. “They’re gonna love the music, because it speaks for itself,” Eddie Cascio, who is credited as a songwriter on “Breaking News,” told MTV News. “Michael sounds great. The songs are great. The production sounds great. Teddy Riley did a phenomenal job finishing off the songs. The quality and production are incredible.” Theron “Neff-U” Feemster agreed. The producer had a hand in three of the album’s 10 tracks, including “Hollywood Tonight” and standouts “(I Like) The Way You Love Me” and “Best of Joy.” Feemster worked with Jackson in the past, as did the majority of the contributors to Michael, which he thinks made the project uniquely authentic despite MJ having little say in the way his tracks were completed. “It wasn’t difficult,” Feemster told MTV News of picking up the rough material. “It was like coloring. It was coloring a frame that was already structured. Michael mentored me so much to where I kind of knew how to complete his sentences. I understood the expectations that he wanted. He wanted to be beyond great. He wanted to give the world a gift, something they’d never heard or seen before. So even after his passing, it was great to have a great team of people to work with who also had experience working with Michael. It made it that much easier. Bringing very creative people together and people who understood his integrity and what he wanted as well, it was great.” What do you think of Michael ? Share your reviews in the comments. Changes to my Blogroll with a short explanation.

It is with a heavy heart that I remove Bree Palin from my blogroll. As many of you know Bree has closed down her site and is working on a big project that requires her full attention. She did NOT get chased off or threatened (as was the case with Audrey) so do not worry about her. Bree became one of my confidants and we e-mailed each other and shared information often. (I shared the picture of the ruffled ear baby with her at least two months before I posted it. THAT is how much I trusted her!) I will very much miss seeing her blog on the left side of my page when I log onto my computer every morning. And I am confident most of you will too. As for the second change to my blogroll the reasons are entirely different. For many months now I have been receiving complaints about one of the contributors to this site. From accusations that they were passing themselves off as an Alaskan blogger, to charges that they were harassing people, to their habit of leaving comments on other blogger’s sites in an attempt to hijack the thread, the complaints have numbered at least one or two a week for months now. Yet I have resisted taking them off my blogroll because they have done some fine work and I like having as many people working on revealing Palin’s lies as possible. But yesterday was the final straw. I learned yesterday that threats were made to one of my very best friends. The threat was not physical but it was a hurtful attempt to get undeserved credit for their hard work. For me that was it! The reason that I have received so many complaints is because there has been an assumption that I support this site and that we are working together. We are not! Developing trust on the blogosphere is very tricky indeed. There are a lot of people who say they are your friend and then stab you in the back. I have been blessed with some of the best friends that you can imagine (and yes Bree is one of them), but this person betrayed my trust a very long time ago and, though they were on my blogroll, they were never in my confidence. Now I am certainly not telling anybody WHO they should visit on the internet and I hope that you continue to give them your support if you like their work, but I will no longer be allowing any comments which link to them or talk about stories on their site to be posted in my comments section. And before this person decides on retaliation for my decision, I would remind them that I did NOT mention them by name, and that I left out a ton of details that I am sure they do not want revealed. I know this will upset and confuse a number of you and I apologize, I hope that you trust I did not make this decision lightly and that it is one which is long overdue. I will not be adding any more clarification to this post so please do not ask for it. Now that this unsavory business is behind us I need to focus on interviews for next week’s stories. Happy surfing my friends! The quest continues.
