Melanie Amaro Expresses Shock, Appreciation Over X Factor Victory

Melanie Amaro accomplished the very difficult on the first season of The X Factor : the front-runner since day one, this talented singer maintained that status for months and went on to win the title last night . And she still can’t believe it. “I felt as though I was hearing things, to be honest,” Amaro told reporters today of when Steve Jones announced her at the winner. “I had to check my ear real quick. It shocked me a lot. It really did.” Melanie, of course, is now $5 million richer, a wild sum for anyone, let alone a young woman who didn’t grow up with much. “Life will change a lot,” she says. “The most I have ever had before was $200, if I was lucky.” A piano teacher from Florida, Amaro says she’ll purchase a new home for her mother with the winnings, along with a lifetime supply of chicken for herself. Seriously. (“I can’t live without it. It’s my favorite food.”) Overall, she just wants to give a shout-out to her fans. “Thank you to all my supporters who’ve supported me and have been behind me since day one and believed in me when I didn’t even have the heart to believe in myself,” she says. “Even when I went home, you guys still pushed and sent all your love my way.” You’re welcome, Melanie! Amber Portwood Slammed For Drug Test No-Shows, Jailed For a Month Pending Hearing

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood was just reamed out in an Indiana courtroom, accused of violating her probation and pulling a no-show for two urine tests. Law enforcement sources say Portwood got popped on December 16 for possession of a controlled substance. It’s unclear what exactly the substance was. She also failed to provide mandatory urine drug screening results on December 16 and December 19. Not a smart move when you’re on probation already. That’s not even all. Amber Portwood is on the hook for various other alleged probation violations , including failure to complete anger management class. A judge recently ordered her to set up a college fund for her young daughter, Leah. You can probably guess whether or not that’s happened. Spoiler: It has not. As such, Amber was ordered to remain in custody until her hearing in late January. At that point, the Teen Mom ‘s longer-term fate will be determined. SIDE NOTE: This is her second straight Christmas in jail. Wow.

Security Threat or Treat? TSA Confiscates Cupcake in Vegas

A Boston-area woman sparked a potential airline security threat this week when she tried to take a cupcake on a plane. The frosting? Too gel-like for TSA! Rebecca Hains was able to pass through Logan Airport security with two cupcakes, but she was stopped on the way back from Las Vegas with one of them. Hains said she had received the cupcakes as a gift and after eating one on the trip out west, decided to save the other for the flight back. NOT SO FAST! No word on how the first one tasted, or what flavor frosting was on it. Cupcake Confiscated at Airport “In general, cakes and pies are allowed in carry-on luggage,” said TSA spokesman James Fotenos, adding they were looking into why this treat was taken. Good news: Hains contacted the cupcake company, Wicked Good Cupcakes of Cohasset, Mass., which is shipping her a whole new batch free of charge. Bad news: TSA is still making up rules as they go in every airport.
