Jill is gunning for that Oscar. Jill Scott To Star In James Brown Biopic We all know Jill can sang and we’re sure she can act circles around singers who try to act, so this should be a good movie. According to Rolling Out: Get On Up, the upcoming biopic about legendary soul singer James Brown, has added two more notables to the cast. Dan Aykroyd and Jill Scott have joined the production; Aykroyd will play Ben Bart, president of the agency that represented Brown for almost 50 years and Scott will play one of the Godfather of Soul’s wives. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the role was written specifically for the singer-actress. Brown himself will be played by Chadwick Boseman, star of 42. The film begins shooting this month and follows Brown’s life from childhood through his influential, and often-turbulent, career. Legendary Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is co-producing the project. During the long road to getting this film made, superstar Eddie Murphy, director Spike Lee and numerous others had been attached to the movie. Brown himself was assisting with getting the film made before his death in December 2006. Viola Davis, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and “Walking Dead’s” Lennie James are also featured in the film. Tate Taylor will be directing. Taylor directed The Help previously. Co-producer Brian Grazer told Rolling Stone, “I like to make movies about mastery and genius, and it’s hard to find great subjects. And James Brown is a visually dynamic subject.” Will you be buying your popcorn and tickets?

Ghostbusters 3 Is ‘Closer Than Ever’

Ghostbuster fans have waited for what seems like an eternity for a follow-up, but the spooky adventure comedy is on track for a third apparition 23 years after Ghostbusters II hit the big screen. Speaking with Esquire , Dan Aykroyd said that he and director Ivan Reitman are “closer than we ever have been” to getting the project underway, he noted via Yahoo U.K. One obstacle though is that Ghostbusters I & II star Bill Murray may be a no-show, though Aykroyd and Reitman are holding out that he may just come on board in the end. “I’m not sure Billy [has to sign on] anymore, since he abrogated his rights by sort of saying, two years ago, ‘I don’t want to be involved,'” Aykroyd said according to Yahoo Movies U.K. “The picture company I think had some clause in there that if he actually passed on the third of fourth offer, he no longer has a view of the franchise.” But a Ghostbusters III sans Murray will not be a mortal wound should the likely re-do go ahead. The creative team, he notes, will even leave a space should all work out in the end. “We have to move on, but we’ll always leave a hole for him. He’s always there. He can always come back at any time and be rebuilt into it, as far as I’m concerned. That’s up to his lawyer and the picture company to work out, but creatively, he will always be a part of it.” Continuing Aykroyd added: “If it does not happen, the life of Dan Aykroyd and his family and friends will be quite full without Ghostbusters 3 .” [Source: Yahoo U.K. ]

Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr: Back Together?

Former lovebirds and Gossip Girl co-stars Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr are now giving it another shot, reportedly. Says an eyewitness who saw them together: “They were eating brunch at Allswell restaurant in Brooklyn Feb. 11. They were seated in a corner table by the window and were kissing and making out!” Their lovefest continued through into Sunday. “I saw Ed and Jessica eating brunch at Cafe Colette in Brooklyn on Feb. 12 and they were all over each other, ” a second eyewitness tells Life & Style . Just last month at the Television Critics Association conference, Ed Westwick, who plays Chuck Bass, said he had no plans for Valentine’s Day. “I’ve never done anything for Valentine’s Day because there’s never been anyone worth it, and I have no plans this [year],” he told Life & Style . Though reps for Jessica and Ed didn’t comment, the duo ended things amicably before, so it’s not hard to see how a reconciliation could happen. “He’s a really rad guy,” Jessica Szohr has said about Ed. “He’s awesome and smart and talented and adorable, and we make each other laugh.”

Dave Mustaine, Megadeth Frontman, Endorses Rick Santorum For President, Slams Newt Gingrich

In an interview with Music Radar this week, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine dished on his support for Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. Seriously, he did. Here’s one major quote: “I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick , that was commendable.” “Also, just watching how he hasn’t gotten into doing the horrible, horrible attack ads like Mitt Romney’s done against Newt Gingrich, and then the volume at which Newt has gone back at Romney… You know, I think Santorum has presidential qualities.” “I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House next year … and that it’s Rick Santorum.” A spokesman for Rick Santorum’s presidential campaign, which came to life with three wins last week , has not responded to a request for comment. For Mustaine, who hopes “whatever is in the White House next year is a Republican,” candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich just don’t cut it. Of Gingrich, he says, “Watching Newt Gingrich, I was pretty excited for a while, but now he’s just gone back to being that person that everybody said he was.” “He’s that angry little man. I still like him, but I don’t think I’d vote for him. As for Romney, “I was floored the other day to see that Mitt Romney’s five boys have a $100 million trust fund. Where does a guy make that much money?” A fair question. No word if Megadeth plans to open for Rick at his campaign rallies or travel on his bus with The Duggar Family … but we really hope so. Ghostbusters 3 in the Works, Without Bill Murray?

Who you gonna call? Not Bill Murray. Ghostbusters 3 is being actively pursued by writer / star Dan Aykroyd, but his co-star does not want any part of it apparently. The Ghostbusters retired ages ago, after a 1984 hit film, 1989 sequel, and two animated TV shows. But talk of another film has been rekindled of late. In a webcast with Empire magazine, Dan Aykroyd implied he and co-star Rick Moranis were actively working to bring Ghostbusters 3 to theaters. “If we can get the script to ‘Ghostbusters 3’ right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component,” said Aykroyd of the potential project. “None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant.” He also responded to questions that another star, Bill Murray, wasn’t into the idea, denying reports that Murray actually shredded a potential script. Murray also allegedly said “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts.” Replied Dan, “Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior.” “This is simply something that would not be in his nature. It’s not true. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business.” “We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I completely respect that.” So no script shredding but no interest either. Tough to say what a Ghostbusters movie would be like without Murray. What do you think?

Vatican Honors Blues Brothers

Thirty years after Jake and Elwood Blues went on their mission from God, the Vatican has issued an endorsement of The Blues Brothers as “recommended viewing for Catholics everywhere.” The brothers’ mission to raise money for the orphanage where they were raised apparently took on a little more weight than the wrist-slapping “penguin” nun in the final judgment, but there you have it.
