New Monument Will Honor New York City’s Historic Black Seneca Village Community

T he legacy of a historic Black community that once resided in the epicenter of New York City will be memorialized. According to the Smithsonian , a new monument will capture the history of Seneca Village. A planned monument announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office earlier this month is set to honor a prominent African-American family that once lived in the bustling community. https://t.co/e9lP5P9eNG — Smithsonian Magazine (@SmithsonianMag) October 30, 2019 The 19th-century village—which was cultivated in 1825—was one of the state’s first free Black communities. It spanned from West 83rd Street to 89th Street; which is now Central Park. In the 1850s the village had over 225 residents and African Americans made up two-thirds of the population. Many of the properties that were a part of the village were Black-owned. The creation of Central Park ultimately led to the erasure of the community and the displacement of its residents. Individuals living in Seneca Village were forced to leave in 1857. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced that a monument will be created to pay homage to a prominent family that resided in the community. The Lyons family owned and operated a boarding house for Black sailors. The home also served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Mary and Albro Lyons were educators and their daughter Maritcha Remond Lyons was involved in social activism and co-founded the Woman’s Loyal Union of New York and Brooklyn. The $1.15 million memorial is being funded by several organizations including the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund and the JPB Foundation. “The Lyons family story began more than a hundred years ago in a thriving Black community that was razed to build Central Park,” Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development Vicki Been said in a statement . “We finally recognize their contribution to New York and American history with a monument.” Although many people are excited about the project, there has been some criticism because the monument may be placed on 106th Street; 20 blocks away from the village’s historic location. There is no word on when the project will be completed. Rob Kardashian Leaves the House! Steps Out With New Girlfriend!

Folks, you might want to take whatever plans you have the next decade, and put them on hold for a few years. Because it’s looking more and more like the 2020s are gonna belong to Rob Kardashian. Rob has spent the past several months away from the spotlight, and usually that means the Reclusive Kardashian is in a bad place. And it sounds like that’s Rob’s most recent time away from the spotlight did indeed begin with a rough patch. “No one ever sees him,” a source close to the former reality star recently told Radar Online. “He just hangs out at his house all the time.” Sadly it sounds as though the 32-year-old spends much of his time in a state of panic over how he’s being perceived by the public. The insider says Rob “has Google alerts on himself and flies into a panic every time one pops up.” In early October, one insider reported that Rob had not been seen in public for 2 years and left the house only when absolutely necessary. Obviously, that’s a worrisome state of affairs, but as we said, there’s reason to believe things will soon turn around for Rob. In fact, the past week has featured multiple accounts of Dream’s father slowly re-emerging into the light. Last week, a friend reported that Rob is now sober and has lost 20 pounds , largely as a result of giving up booze. And while the process will no doubt continue to be a slow one, Rob took a major step forward on Halloween night by leaving the house to party with his sisters, as well as a possible new love interest. According to a new report from Radar, Rob spent the night raging in honor of Kendall Jenner’s birthday (the model turns 24 on November 3). Interestingly, it seems he passed much of the evening in close conversation with Kylie Jenner’s BFF Stassie Karanikolaou. Normally, we’d make fun of a 32-year-old dad for spending the night creeping on a friend of his 22-year-old sister, but in Rob’s case, we’ll applaud it as a sign of progress. Unfortunately, it seems Kris Jenner’s only son still has a long way to go with regard to both his physical and mental health. “Rob suffers terribly from diabetes, but he makes doctors come to him instead so he doesn’t have to leave the house,” the source added. “Rob is absolutely terrified of unflattering photographs leaking of himself.” We wish Rob all the best as he continues to move forward. Felicity Huffman Refused to Talk to Lori Loughlin Before Prison

Earlier this week, actress Felicity Huffman reported to prison to begin serving a 14-day sentence. As you probably know, Huffman is one of the famous faces of the college admissions bribery scandal . And while she’s the first celebrity to get locked up for the bribes she doled out in order to ensure her daughter a place in the school of her choice, she almost certainly won’t be the last. After all, Huffman accepted a plea deal and prosecutors still made an example of her. (Sure it was the lightest slap on the wrist imaginable, but they imprisoned a rich, well-connected white woman in America, which is no easy feat.) Conversely, actress Lori Loughlin refused a plea deal and is planning to take her chances in court. And we think it’s safe to say she’s beginning to have second thoughts after seeing what became of Huffman. Insiders Loughlin still believes she’ll be able to avoid doing time, but is now contemplating the possibility for the first time. According to a new report from People magazine, Loughlin attempted to reach out to Huffman recently in order to get a read on how the actress was feeling about her upcoming sentence. Not surprisingly, it seems Huffman didn’t feel up to having a chat: “She wanted to encourage her, and see how she was doing,” a source close to the situation tells People. “She feels like their fates are tied together now, even though they weren’t really friends before.” Sounds like Huffman just wants this whole ordeal to be over with and has no interest in commiserating with her co-conspirators. But like it or not, it seems she’ll be getting another call from Aunt Becky shortly after her release: “She wants to debrief Felicity after jail to find out what it was like and what her advice would be,” says the insider. “She feels like Felicity’s time in jail will be an indicator on her own time, and she’s extremely curious to know how it goes.” Not surprisingly, Loughlin is hoping Huffman will reassure her that life on the inside isn’t all that bad: “She’s definitely hoping that Felicity’s time in prison will go easy for her, because that will be a positive sign that, if Lori has to serve time, that she’ll be able to weather it as well,” the source says. “Of course, it’s still very important for her to be exonerated of all charges against her,” the insider continues. “She still maintains her innocence and hopes it won’t come to that. But if she does end up serving time in prison, she wants to know what she’s getting into.” Lori might still be holding out hope that the judge will go easy on her, but that seems increasingly unlikely. While her trial date has not yet been set, it looks as though Loughlin will be going from Full House to the big house sometime in early 2020.

Todd Chrisley Claims Daughter Slept with Georgia Tax Official, Threatened to Release Her Sex Tape

In an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw that will air on Thursday night, Lindsie Chrisley confirms something obvious about her father: The guy is an enormous slimeball. Like, just really giant and huge and downright enormous. The wealthy real estate tycoon has risen to small screen fame over the years as the patriarch of a USA Network reality show titled “Chrisley Knows Best.” It chronicles the lives of Todd, his wife Julie and some of their kids — including daughter Lindsie, up until about two years ago. It was around this time that two things happened: Authorities started investigating Todd and Julie for tax evasion. Todd and his son, Chase, allegedly started trying to blackmail Lindsie to assist in this case by lying to said authorities. How did they do this? By telling Lindsie they would release a sex tape they had purchased of her unless she followed their orders and helped mislead investigators. Todd, of course, has not admitted to such a scheme. But former Bachelor star Robby Hayes has confessed to (accidentally) making a sex tape with Lindsie and no one who has been following this story doubts that the extortion attempt took place. And now Lindsie is opening up a new chapter in this story. In the aforementioned chat with Dr. Phil, Lindsie claims that Todd approached her at some point in the past and accused her of having an affair with someone at the Georgia Dept. of Revenue’s Office named Joshua Waites. Lindsie denied this accusation. But Todd and Julie have actually filed a lawsuit that alleges Waites at least tried to cozy up Lindsie in order to influence his department’s investigation. They provided text messages between Waites and Lindsie, such as the one below, as evidence: For the record, Todd and Julie were indicted for federal tax evasion in August. They were just cleared last week on a state leval , but the couple is still facing charges — and many years in prison — on a federal level. Back to Lindsie, though: She also tells Dr. Phil that, after she scoffed at her dad’s assertion of her affair with Waites, Todd strongly implied that he would release her sex tape AND nude photos of his own daughter to the press… … unless she helped him fight back against these financial fraud charges. Lindsie denies ever meeting Waites in person, but admits she did communicate with him, merely to protect her son.  As for the whole sex tape thing? Todd might as well have confessed to it with this statement two months ago: “It’s heartbreaking and shameful that these kinds of accusations have to be aired in public. We have tried to keep Lindsie’s extramarital relationships with [Bachelor Nation stars] Robby Hayes and Josh Murray private for her sake since August of 2016. “Sadly, for reasons we can only guess at, she ran to the sheriff’s office to accuse her brother of buying a sex tape of her and Robby, which was a complete lie, and now she’s telling more lies about me.” Yup, Chrisley just outed his daughter for her supposedly unethical sex life. He then had the gall to end a subsequent Instagram post as follows: God is good , we drop our hands and surrender to God and will let God do the rest , you can’t claim FAITH and still express FEAR. Todd Chrisley is the absolute worst.

While the family petitioned the court for guardianship, Foster wrote that she was opposed to the idea of her daughter living with her aunt, Nipsey’s sister. “I strongly oppose both of the petitions filed by Samantha Alexandria Smith, Samiel Asghedom and Angelique Smith,” Foster says. “I am the mother of Emani Asghedom and there is no good reason my rights as her mother should be taken away from me, or otherwise reduced as her mother.” Apparently, a judge didn’t agree. The family has called Foster unfit while she maintained that after Nipsey’s death, things became very difficult for her. She claimed that the family kicked her out of the apartment Nipsey paid for. She claimed the family tarnished the co-parenting relationship she and Nipsey had built over the years. The court found that Nipsey’s family provided enough evidence to prove that Nipsey’s siblings Samantha Smith, Sam Asghedom and his mother Angelique Smith have been named Emani’s guardians. Emani is expected to inherit half of Nipsey’s 2 million estate. The son he shares with Lauren London, 3-year-old Kross, will inherit the other half. Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge: Expecting First Child Together!

KA… BOOM! Cory Wharton just dropped a rather huge bombshell on the Teen Mom OG universe, confirming to Us Weekly that he and girlfriend Taylor Selfridge are expecting their very first child together. “It was definitely a surprise,” Wharton tells the aforementioned tabloid of the news, which he says the couple found out about two months ago. Selfridge is 11 weeks along and will be welcoming her very first child overall. Wharton, meanwhile, shares two-year-old daughter Ryder with ex-girlfriend Cheyenne Floyd … which is how he got famous in the first place. When Floyd joined Teen Mom OG last season, a significant portion of her opening season storyline centered on her on-again/off-again relationship with Wharton. (Who, for the record, didn’t know Ryder was his daughter until she was 6 months old, meaning this pregnancy with Selfridge is actually the first one he’ll get to experience as an expecting father.) Added Wharton while speaking to Us Weekly : “Just being there from the day she found out that she’s pregnant and knowing that it was mine, I knew that I was going to have to step up. “It’s exciting for me. It’s gonna be a lot, but I’m excited. I never went to an ultrasound, you know? I never went to the doctor’s appointments to see her check-ups and things like that. “So for me, this is like my first baby almost, as weird as that sounds.” Floyd has not yet commented on this development. Throughout last season of Teen Mom OG, she made it sound like she was anxious to commit long-term to Wharton, but he never gave her the same indication. She’s since brushed off Wharton’s relationship with Selfridge , which was made public back in February. Cory and Taylor say they do plan to find out the gender of the baby when the time comes, but for now, he’s hoping for a second daughter. “I just originally thought it was a boy, but now I don’t know,” Selfridge told Us Weekly. ”Everybody’s saying girl, so now I just feel like it’s a girl!” Floyd, for her part, has been very supportive of the father of her child and Selfridge, despite issues she initially had with the couple when it came to being around Ryder. “I went over to Cheyenne’s house and I was dropping Ryder off and I just said, ‘Hey, so Ryder’s going to be a sister!’ There’s no easy way to tell somebody that,” Wharton said of breaking the news to the Teen Mom OG star. Selfridge added she feared Floyd would “freak out” about the new, but Wharton said he’s gotten nothing but love from her family. “They really were supportive from day one,” he states. Cory and Taylor met during season 1 of MTV’s Ex on the Beach in 2014 and started dating after the show. They broke up a short while later and then were sort of back and forth for about two years, including the period when Wharton was trying to figure out his future with Floyd. She takes full responsibility for the murder of Johnny Allen: “He is a victim, you know? He was, he was, his family’s a victim. You know, his friends, the people that knew him, the people that loved him. Like, they had someone snatched away from them. And I did that.” She wants people to see a different side of her: “I want them to see that I’m so much more than the worst thing that I’ve done. You know, I’m so much more than that moment.” She’s changed: “I know there are people looking at me saying ‘okay, well what’s this girl gonna do? And is she really changed? So I feel like it’s an honor to actually be a picture of what rehabilitation looks like. Of what it looks like when we give people a second chance.”
