Suge Knight has been formally charged with murder. The music mogul was arrested last week in conjunction with a hit-and-run that took place in Los Angeles. Knight was allegedly engaged in an argument when he got into his pickup truck and backed over two men. One of them, Terry Carter, died from the wounds he sustained as a result of the incident. Reports state that Knight was being accosted by multiple men when he floored the gas pedal out of fear for his life. He claims he wasn’t aware he had struck anyone when he fled at scene. However, the cops allege Knight was trying to run over a nemesis name Cle “None” Sloan when he hit Carter by mistake. In addition to murder, Knight faces charges of attempted premeditated murder; hit and run resulting in death; and hit and run resulting in injury. These are all felonies. Knight had his $2 million bail revoked today, while insiders say video obtained by deputies at the scene capture a “portion” of what took place in Compton. Authorities say the footage strengthens the District Attorney’s case against Knight. Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records, turned himself in to police on January 30 after running over Carter, a friend, with his vehicle. “The complaint includes use of a deadly weapon and causing great bodily injury allegations and that Knight has prior convictions, making this a third strike case,” the L.A. County D.A.’s Office said earlier today. Knight is set to appear in the Compton courthouse tomorrow. If convicted, he faces up to life in state prison. The producer, of course, is no stranger to brushes with the law. He’s been charged in the past with robbery, driving with a suspended license, drug possession and assault with a deadline weapon. 16 Celebrities Who May Have Killed People 1. O.J. Simpson O.J. Should this law be put in place? Or does the responsibility lie within the black community to decrease unjust criminalization? Congress Rejects New Law That Would Decrease Criminalizatoin Of Black People In D.C. A recently rejected law in Washington D.C. has many in the black community convinced that Congress purposely blocked the legislation because it would have greatly minimized the criminalization of black people in the district. via Kulture Kritic Despite the recent vote by Washington D.C.’s Council to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, the law will not go into effect. Alternet is reporting that Congress has exercised its right to review the law. This is despite the fact that D.C. has no voting representatives in Congress. Maryland Republican Representative Andy Harris is responsible for introducing an amendment to the District of Columbia Appropriations Bill that effectively negates the decriminalization law. In a press release from the ACLU, executive director Monica Hopkins-Maxwell states, “By any measure, the war on drugs, particularly on marijuana, has been a failure and severely impacted black communities and communities of color. Today’s rider passage is a detrimental blow in the D.C. Council’s attempt to enact smarter, fairer laws that address racial disparities and the mass incarceration of communities of color.” According to a 2013 ACLU-NCA study, D.C. law enforcement made 5,393 marijuana related arrests in 2010 with 91 percent of those arrested being black. The study also found that black people were eight times more likely to be arrested for pot possession in D.C. than whites. The decriminalization law would have reduced these outcomes by no longer allowing prosecution for possession of small amounts of marijuana, which clearly have a disproportionate impact on people of color. After reading over the details of the law and the potential effects of its’ implementation, do you see a connection between Congress blocking the law and the high level of criminalization of black people in D.C? Let’s discuss. Shutterstock
U.S. Congressman Vance McAllister (R-LA) has admitted that video surveillance footage, allegedly showing him kissing a staffer who is not his wife, is him. Vance McAllister Surveillance Video First reported by the Ouachita Citizen, a West Monroe, La., newspaper in his district, the grainy video came from an anonymous source last December. It shows a man turning off the lights in a hallway before briefly exiting the frame. When he comes back in frame, he is joined by a woman and they kiss passionately. None of the footage, which the newspaper says was shot in Vance McAllister’s Monroe district office, clearly shows the faces of the two individuals. The woman is identified as his district scheduler, Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, 33. On Monday, McAllister issued a statement admitting he is the man on video: “There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking for forgiveness. I’m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff and my constituents who elected me to serve.” Busted! “Trust is something I know has to be earned whether you’re a husband, a father or a Congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed.” McAllister won a November 16 special election to replace Rodney Alexander, who was named the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs in August. McAllister campaigned as a devout Christian, using his faith and his 16-year marriage to appeal to conservative voters in the Northern Louisiana district. In January, he invited Willie Robertson , a member of the controversial reality-television show Duck Dynasty , to be his guest at the State of the Union address.
