Ellen Pompeo on Emmy Awards: So Disappointing, No Diversity at All!

Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo wasn’t a fan of this year’s Emmy Awards. A big reason for that? The telecast’s lack of diversity, according to the star. “I didn’t see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me,” she said, adding specifically that “The dance number was embarrassing.” Did you see one person of color in that dance number?” Grey’s Anatomy is one of the more diverse shows on TV, which Pompeo, who is also in a biracial marriage (to Chris Ivery ) says is one of her favorite things about it. The series famously casts its characters “blind” with no race in mind. “I’m extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast which represents the world that I walk around in every day,” she said of the long-running medical drama. Greys Anatomy Season 10 Premiere Clip Grey’s , in its heyday, earned a ton of nominations at the annual show, many of which for roles portrayed by its diverse cast. This year? Not so much. Regardless, her typically blunt assessment likely rings true to many. What do you think of her comments? Were the Emmy Awards lacking in the diversity department? And given the nature of the show, does it matter? Grey’s Anatomy returns Thursday night in any case.

Tyler Perry Will Be So Pleased… Spike Lee Admits “I’m An Instigator” In JET Magazine Cover Story

Well would you looky who is JET Beauty of the Week this time around??? Spike Lee is JET’s cover star for their upcoming (February 6) issue and inside he gets pretty revealing. Here’s what he had to say about how he found his calling: “I was just standing in the corner, looking out my window and seeing the richness and variety of African-American experience. What I was seeing on television and the diversity of African-American experience was lacking in television and film. And my parents were very progressive. I remember getting a lecture from my mother. ‘Don’t let them tell you that Cleopatra looked like Elizabeth Taylor.’ She really was about re-education.” We’ve been using this guy for great headlines for a minute now, so it was no surprise to hear him admit his work and his opinions have caused him some trouble in his time, check the next page for more excerpts from the story.

You Know You’ve Become A Real New Yorker When…

For those of us not raised in New York City, moving to the concrete jungle is an exciting, but huge adjustment. Everything in NYC is louder, bigger and bolder than anywhere else in the country . In the words of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, “these streets can make you feel brand new.” However, living in New York City does not necessarily make you a New Yorker. A real New Yorker, has mastered living with the fast pace of the city, has learned the lingo, and adjusted to the unpredictable nature of everyday life in the city that never sleeps. Here are eight tell-tale signs that you’ve gone from a bright-eyed NYC newbie to a seasoned New York City diva. ( Continued at MadameNoire.com )
