Frances Bean Cobain has never shown much interest in entering show business or becoming a social media celebrity (apparently a viable career option for celebrity offspring in 2016), but she’s grown up under a microscope nonetheless. It’s not hard to see why, of course, as for a generation of music fans, her father is more much more than just a rock star (ironically, a role he says he never wanted to play). Kurt Cobain’s tragic passing elevated him to the level of icon, martyr of fame, member of the fabled 27 Club and unwitting sacrifice to the rock gods. Courtney Love, by contrast, has become, over the years, something of a punchline in the music world: a coattail-riding Lady MacBeth, a female Keith Richards haunted by her own Brian Jones. Whether that reputation is deserved or not is a question for another time. All of this is to say that short of moving into a convent the day she turned 18, there’s little that Frances could have done to escape the attention of the Gen-Xers who love her father’s music and the Milennials who love her style. Frances turned 24 yesterday, and despite some recent personal struggles (She divorced Isaiah Silva in March after just six months of marriage.) and a reputation for preferring the indoors (She is the First Daughter of the grunge movement, after all.) it appears that she decided to celebrate with a vacation in Hawaii: Cobain uploaded the above pic to her Instagram page (with the amazing handle of “space_witch666”) and it instantly racked up a ton of likes (nearly 24,000 so far) and sparked some intense debates over the meaning of her tattoos. Perhaps as a result of all she’s been through, fans seem to feel protective of FBC. (Rumors that Silva wanted to keep her father’s guitar after the divorce led to an uproar on social media.) As a result, her Instagram page is a mostly positive, supportive place. And thankfully, she seems to have grown into a stable, well-adjusted young woman. The girl is living proof that you can always make the choice to turn your back on a dark past and face the sun.

Four years after Frances Bean Cobain and Isaiah Silva got engaged , the young couple has finally tied the knot. E! News is reporting that Frances and Isaiah got married over the weekend in a “small and intimate” (and very secretive) ceremony. In fact, Frances reportedly kept things so low-key that her infamous mother, Courtney Love, didn’t even know she was getting married. Probably a good call if there was an open bar. “Courtney loves Isaiah, but was devastated to learn that Frances had gotten married without her knowing,” a source says. “Courtney really likes Isaiah and is very happy for Frances. Courtney is sad she wasn’t at the wedding.” Though Courtney and Frances have a famously tumultuous relationship, they appeared to have patched things up recently, and made several public appearances together to promote the Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck earlier this year. Of course, during the press tour, Frances made some controversial comments that many interpreted as passive-aggressive shots at her troubled parents. Despite the snub, the insider says Courtney is “cool” with Frances’ decision to get married on the down-low: “Frances called her after but Courtney understands why she did it,” says the source. “Frances needs a man in her life and has always craved stability. She’s found it in Isaiah. This has not caused a rift between mom and daughter. Courtney was sad, but she’s cool and Isaiah is a great son-in-law.” Yes, Courtney Love is reportedly bummed. This week marks the 21st anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain and an acclaimed documentary about the legendary Nirvana singer is set to air on May 4. So it’s not hard to see why the folks at Rolling Stone figured the time would be right for a sentimental sit-down with Kurt’s 22-year-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain (also a executive producer for the film about her dad). However, it seems that Frances is none too interested in romanticizing her father’s short life, and some of her comments might come as a shock to the millions of rock fans who worship at the altar of Kurt. “I don’t really like Nirvana that much,” Frances reportedly said with a grin , when asked about her father’s music. “Sorry, promotional people, Universal. The grunge scene is not what I’m interested in.” Frances noted, however, that she does enjoy the songs “Territorial Pissings” and “Dumb,” describing the latter as a “stripped-down version of Kurt’s perception of himself.” Frances refers to her father as “Kurt” throughout the interview (She was just an infant when he died.), and while she may not have known him well, she believes that he would be uncomfortable with the level of adulation he still receives from fans: “He didn’t want to be the fucking voice of a generation,” she says. “He had to sacrifice every bit of himself to his art, because the world demanded it of him.” View Slideshow: 7 Iconic Photos of Kurt Cobain Surprising as all of that may be, Frances’ most shocking comments are reserved for her discussion of her father’s decision to take his own life. Frances Bean Cobain has lashed out at her mother Courtney Love for claiming on Twitter than her late husband’s bandmate Dave Grohl hit on her . Love claimed Grohl “hit on” Frances and is “obsessed” with the teenage daughter of Kurt Cobain, and that “she was curious” about him as well. Frances wasted no time in pointedly slamming the rumor and her mom. “While I’m generally silent on the affairs of my biological mother, her recent tirade has taken a gross turn,” says Frances. “I have never been approached by Dave Grohl in more than a platonic way. I’m in a monogamous relationship and very happy.” Frances adds: “Twitter should ban my mother.” Grohl, the Nirvana drummer turned Foo Fighters frontman, also ripped Love, who claimed he was “sexually obsessed” with Frances and/or Kurt. “Unfortunately Courtney is on another hateful Twitter rant,” Grohl, the married father of two daughters, says through his rep in response. “These new accusations are upsetting, offensive and absolutely untrue.” For her part, Frances Bean Cobain, 19, is happy at least, getting engaged to Isaiah Silva , frontman of the rock band the Rambles, last fall.
