Damage Control: TV Station Apologizes To Julie Chen For News Director Saying She Looked Too Asian

Better late than never. TV Station Apologizes To Julie Chen This was wrong on so many levels. Glad too see the station taking responsibility and apologizing. According to Mail Online An Ohio television station has issued an apology to CBS reality show host Julie Chen after she revealed that she had undergone surgery to look ‘less Asian’ in response to remarks from her then-news director. Chen, 43, best known as the presenter of the Big Brother show, made the admission on The Talk Wednesday, describing how as a young reporter, she was told by her supervisor at WDTN-TV in Dayton that she would never be an anchor because she looked too Chinese. The same sentiment was echoed some time later by a talent agent, who told Chen that her eyes were too small and inexpressive. Chen’s revelations sparked an outcry online, prompting the management of WDTN to release a statement apologizing to the TV personality for the comments made by a news director at the station nearly two decades earlier. ‘We are sorry to hear about what happened to CBS’ Julie Chen in 1995 when she was a reporter at WDTN-TV,’ Joe Abouzeid, the station’s president and general manager, stated. ‘The station was under different management and ownership during that time. At WDTN and WBDT, we don’t tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind.’ Do you believe their apology is sincere? Continue reading

Sex Study: More Banging Equates to More Bucks

In a study undoubtedly commissioned by a man, new findings determine that those who have sex at least four times per week make more money than those who come down with “headaches” on a frequent basis. This conclusion has been drawn in a paper (“The Effects of Sexual Activity on Wages”) by Nick Drydakis, a fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor. Study: More Sex, More Money He looked into a year-long survey of 7,500 Greek households that asked such questions as: How many times a week do you get it on? How much do you make? How many hours do you work? Based on the answers, Drydakis concluded that frisky individuals are happier and possess high self-esteem… and these are the kinds of people who bring in the major bucks. Granted, the causation may actually be reversed: those who make a lot of money may feel good about themselves and may therefore feel more desirable at home. Moreover, raises typically occur earlier in life, as one makes one’s way up the ladder at work – and this could also correlate with one’s sexual prime. But still. Give Drydakis a break, people. He’s trying to do men everywhere a favor here and we applaud him for it.

Duck Dynasty Premieres to RIDICULOUS, Record-Setting Ratings

It’s officially, ridiculously quack-tastic. The Duck Dynasty Season 4 premiere drew record ratings for A&E last night, as 11.8 million viewers tuned in, making the episode the most-watched nonfiction hour in the history of basic cable. And making David McKillop – General Manager and Executive Vice President of the network – one happy man. Actually, a single “happy” doesn’t cover it. Duck Dynasty Season 4 Premiere Highlights “Thanks to its authentic and engaging characters ‘Duck Dynasty’ has become more than just a reality show, it is a cultural phenomenon,” said McKillop in a statement. “We would like to thank the Robertsons for their incredible partnership. We are all Happy, Happy, Happy.” The premiere was also viewed by 6.3 million adults in the key advertiser demographic of 18-49, yet another basic cable record. Duck Dynasty Life Lessons Perhaps Willie Robertson should reconsider a run for Congress. He’ll never be more popular than he is right now. Or perhaps we’ll be proven wrong: a new episode of Duck Dynasty will airs Wednesday night at 10. Who knows how high these numbers could climb?

Andy Reid: Fired by Philadelphia Eagles

It’s Black Monday in the NFL, as multiple teams have given the axe to their head coaches less than 24 hours after completing their final game of the regular season. Foremost among the men looking for new jobs? Andy Reid, the Eagles’ career leader in wins whose squad stumbled to a 4-12 record this year. “Andy Reid won the most games of any head coach in Eagles history and he is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come,” owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. “But, it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Coach Reid leaves us with a winning tradition that we can build upon. And we are very excited about the future.” Other coaches also fired this morning include Pat Shurmur of the Browns and, most likely,  Romeo Crennel of the Chiefs and Norv Turner of the Chargers. Rex Ryan, conversely, is expected to keep his job in New York, although General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has been fired.

Jersey City Wine Shop: No Snooki Allowed!

The Jersey City, N.J., booze emporium next door to where Snooki and JWoww are filming their upcoming Jersey Shore spinoff apparently wants nothing to do with them. So adamantly that they’re banned from the store! In a morally commendable, financially disastrous move, the place wants Snooki to steer completely clear … even posting a sign on the door telling her to keep the hell out. Talk about turning away a couple of potentially loyal customers . JWoww isn’t welcome there either, so the ladies will have to find a place to buy their binge drinking supplies somewhere else. Somehow we imagine they’ll manage. The general manager at the wine shop said that while the sign says “No Snooki,” it applies to her BFF too: “Even if Jwoww shows up at our door she will not be let in.” “The only thing they are good for is ridicule and amusement. There’s no upside business wise; the potential downside is God knows what. Why feed the embarrassment?” This guy is our new hero.

Kyle Williams Takes Blame for San Francisco Defeat, Faces Death Threats

The 49ers fell to the Giants yesterday in the NFC Championship Game and – like Billy Cundiff on the Ravens – most of the blame lies at the feet of one player: Kyle Williams, who turned the ball over TWICE on punt returns, including one fumble that led to an easy New York field goal in overtime. Williams has taken responsibility for the mishaps, but that isn’t enough for some crazed fans. Kyle Williams Fumbles, 49ers Lose Many have taken to Twitter and issued death threat against the little-used wide receiver, who was only pressed in to duty due to an injury. “It certainly makes you question our culture of sports as it stands,” said Kyle’s dad, Chicago White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams, while kicker David Akers also stood up for his teammate: “I’m irritated with the way people are treating him, absolutely. I think it’s ridiculous. You know, get a grip on what life’s about. He went out and he put his soul out there. That’s what he does. He was not trying to do anything other than make an incredible play for this team.” We agree. And fans ought to be thanking Williams for helping to set up a Giants/Patriots Super Bowl. It’s gonna be epic!

Jeremy Renner ‘Not Injured’ In Bar Fight

A rep disputes a report to MTV News that the ‘Mission Impossible’ actor was injured in Thailand. By Jocelyn Vena Jeremy Renner Photo: Getty Images “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol” star Jeremy Renner is just fine. Despite previous reports, the actor’s rep confirmed to MTV News that he was not injured in a bar fight in Thailand. “Jeremy was there [but] was not involved,” a rep for the actor told MTV News. “When a fight broke out, he exited [and] was not injured.” The Phuket Gazette reports that Renner had been hanging out at the Rachada Pub in Phuket Town when six employees stabbed and injured two local men, Sri Panwa Resort General Manager Vorasit Issara and Maj Gen Chonasit, early Wednesday. The newspaper further reports that Renner had been in their company, along with Vorasit’s driver, Noppadon Preechawai, and several other friends. The Gazette originally reported that Renner had been injured in the scuffle. Prior to arriving at Rachada Pub, the group had also been spotted at two other local hotspots, KorTorMor Pub and another club near Royal Phuket City Hotel. The six men are currently being held by local authorities and addressed the media at a press conference on Thursday. The pub where the incident occurred has since been shut down for six months because it violated a local curfew. Renner has been in Manila, Philippines filming “The Bourne Legacy,” the actor’s rep said. He recently opened up to MTV News about filming “Legacy” and filling in the spot left vacant by the franchise’s longtime star, Matt Damon. “He’s always been so complimentary to me from the moment I met him. Such a great guy,” Renner said. “He’s a very, very complimentary, loving dude.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Bourne Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
