Jim Carrey Slams Kick-Ass 2 as Too Violent, Producer Defends Project

Jim Carrey is speaking out about his upcoming film Kick-Ass 2, and not in a good way. Rather, the star is condemning it for its use of what he feels is excessive violence following the tragic events in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, last year. Jim Carrey Kick-Ass 2 Trailer – Theatrical “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence,” the 51-year-old actor tweeted. “I meant to say my apologies to others involve[d] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.” Comic book author Mark Millar, who also executive produced Kick-Ass 2 , wrote a blog post following the tweets to express his opinion on the matter: “As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control,” he wrote. “I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I’m baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago.” “Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin.” “A sequel to the picture that gave us HIT-GIRL was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much.” “Ultimately, it’s his decision, but I’ve never bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real-life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real-life.” “Our job as storytellers is to entertain and our toolbox can’t be sabotaged by curtailing the use of guns in an action-movie,” he concluded. What do you think? Is Jim off-base? Or is his point about violence in movies something that warrants a broader discussion beyond just Kick-Ass 2?

Jesus Take The Wheel: 2-Year-Old Dies After Shooting Himself In The Head With Dad’s Gun

Another day, another child shooting themselves or someone else with their parents’ gun. This is so sad. 2-Year-Old Shoots Himself With Dad’s Gun According to Raw Story A two-year-old boy from Corsicana, Texas, a town of just under 24,000 people located between Dallas and Waco, shot himself in the head Wednesday night with his father’s handgun while his dad was looking away, police said. The victim was identified as Kinsler Allen Davis, according to The Associated Press. Davis was rushed to the local hospital in Fredricksberg before medics put him on a life flight to Dallas, but even doctors there could not save him. A police statement obtained by Dallas-based CBS DFW explained that all physical evidence so far in the case indicates the shooting was accidental. The boy found his 35-year-old father’s handgun while the man was interacting with something in his bedroom’s closet, with his son just feet away. “As you can imagine, they’re extremely upset and distraught,” Corsicana police chief Randy Bratton reportedly said. We feel sorry for his parents. Shutterstock

NRA President on Boston Bombing: How Many People Wished They Had Guns?!

National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre has sparked controversy, again, this time by linking the Boston bombing to the ongoing gun control debate . In the NRA chief’s view, it all boils down to a simple, rhetorical question: “How many Bostonians wish they had a gun two weeks ago?” “Imagine living in a large metro area where lawful firearms ownership is heavily regulated and discouraged,” he said at the annual NRA convention in Houston. “Imagine waking up to a phone call from the police, warning that a terrorist event is occurring outside and ordering you to stay inside your home.” “I’m talking, of course, about Boston, where residents were imprisoned behind the locked doors of their homes, a terrorist with bombs and guns just outside.” “Frightened citizens, sheltered in place, with no means to defend themselves or their families from whatever may come crashing through the door.” “How many Bostonians wished they had a gun two weeks ago?” he asked. “How many other Americans now ponder that life-or-death question?” LaPierre is the most public face of the NRA, which has determinedly fought efforts by President Barack Obama and Congress to strengthen gun laws. He is as unabashed as he is aggressive in fighting for what he believes in: “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” “Boston proves it,” he said. “When brave law enforcement officers did their jobs so courageously, good guys with guns stopped terrorists with guns.” Is he exploiting a tragedy to make his point? No, he argues. In fact, it’s the Obama administration and gun control activists who are doing the exploiting. LaPierre said the “Washington elites” are interested only in “demonizing law-abiding gun owners,” and exploit tragedy “by choice, for political gain.” What’s your take? LaPierre’s comments on the Boston bombing :   Outrageous, out of line and total BS. He actually makes decent points here! View Poll »

Jesus Take The Wheel: 13-Year-Old Boy Shoots His 6-Year-Old Sister While Playing Hide And Go Seek

Where were the parents? 6-Year-Old Shot By Brother According to NBC Miami Homicide detectives in Broward County, Florida are talking with a 13-year-old boy who they believe shot his 6-year-old sister. According to NBC Miami, the shooting occurred just before 7 p.m. in Oakland Park on Saturday night. “They were playing hide and go seek. I don’t know how it went down but he shot his sister,” neighbor Peter Milano explained. “They just carried her out in her hands and you can tell above her chest area she had a hole where she was shot,” neighbor Justin Latoutrrette told WSVN. Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Dani Moschella said that the two children were at home alone when the incident happened. “We just don’t know at this point if this was an accident or if it was intentional,” Moschella said. “It is very difficult when dealing with children, specifically children who’ve been through a very traumatic situation,” she pointed out. “This family will never be the same after tonight, no matter how it ends up.” Another neighbor told The Miami Herald that the “little boy just sat there rocking back and forth… It’s just so devastating. They had just moved in two weeks ago.” Under Florida law, the parents could be charged with a third-degree felony if police determine that the gun was “within the reach or easy access of a minor” and was used to cause injury or death. The 6-year-old girl was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Moschella reported that she was in critical but stable condition as of Sunday night. Something needs to be done about these parents who leave guns around for their kids to easily get and shoot somebody. We know we need gun control, but we need people control as well. Shutterstock

Gun Background Check Bill Fails in Senate

The U.S. Senate rejected a bipartisan amendment today that would have expanded background checks on gun purchases, according to news reports. The defeat marks a blow to advocates calling for more strict firearms laws after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook E.S. in Newtown, Conn., last year. The measure was a product of intense negotiations between Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey and West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin. It would have necessitated background check requirements on gun owners, and needed 60 votes to pass, which the two Senators thought it had. It therefore failed, despite its 54-46 majority. Democratic Sens. Begich of Alaska, Heidi Heitkamp of Louisiana, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Max Baucus of Alaska broke ranks to vote against it. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada also switched his vote to no at the end, a procedural tactic that allows him to still bring the same measure up for a vote later. Other than Toomey, only three Republicans supported the amendment: Mark Kirk of Illinois, Susan Collins of Maine and John McCain of Arizona. Sixty votes are needed to cut off debate, a.k.a. a silent filibuster. Scores of onlookers filled the Senate gallery to watch the vote. Vice President Joseph Biden, the President of the Senate who predicted a close vote, read the final tally and announced the amendment had not passed. Patricia Maisch, who helped disarm the man who shot former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in the 2011 Tucson shooting, yelled, “Shame on you!” and walked out. “This is going to be a close vote and I can assure you of one thing, we’re going to get this eventually,” Biden told Google in advance of the voting. “If we don’t get this today, we’ll get this eventually.” He promised that the White House and gun control supporters would continue to move ahead regardless of the success of today’s Senate action.
