Source: COLIN CUTHBERT / Getty Pregnant Transgender Man Gives Birth To Stillborn Baby Assigning labels and making assumptions about people’s identities could cause fatal outcomes. That was the case for one New England man who went to the hospital with severe abdominal pains only to have a nurse not consider it an emergency — claiming that the man was “obese and had stopped taking blood pressure medicines.” But quite the contrary. It turns out that the 32-year old unidentified man was in labor , and wound up giving birth to a stillborn baby that same day. According to Dr. Daphna Stroumsa of the University of Michigan, this incident points to a greater issue regarding transgender people and healthcare. “The point is not what’s happened to this particular individual but this is an example of what happens to transgender people interacting with the health care system. He was rightly classified as a man” in the medical records and appears masculine, Stroumsa said. “But that classification threw us off from considering his actual medical needs.” The man revealed to the nurse that he was transgender when he arrived at the emergency room. He even disclosed that he was he hadn’t had a period in several years and had been taking testosterone. Unfortunately, he had to quit taking the hormone and blood pressure medication after he lost insurance. “Several hours later, a doctor evaluated him and the hospital test confirmed pregnancy. An ultrasound showed unclear signs of fetal heart activity, and an exam revealed that part of the umbilical cord had slipped into the birth canal. Doctors prepared to do an emergency cesarean delivery, but in the operating room no fetal heartbeat was heard. Moments later, the man delivered a stillborn baby.” Clearly, the healthcare system has to do more to raise medical awareness. SMH.

Little People, Big World is a reality television show. This is not exactly a groundbreaking statement. As such, however, the long-running TLC series has faced the same criticism and the same questions that have faced all other reality television entries on the small screen. Which is to say that many viewers are often wondering the following: Is the series scripted? This speculation was spurred on about three years ago when Jacob Roloff quit the show , resigning with a controversial Instagram post that he claimed at the time called out the program for exactly what it is: An example of total phoney baloney, according to Jacob. “Producers have to try to get us to follow the talking points,” he shared in this message, jumping way high on a pedestal and adding: “For me, noticing how the agenda of the crew doesn’t work well with the health & happiness of our family is what made me decide quite a while ago that I could not be a part of it as soon as I was able.” In this same post, Jacob referred to “storyline” and wrote of his loved ones: “They are the Roloff Characters and I have scarcely anything in common with them.” Years later, Jacob would sort of apologize for these remarks; or at least explain that he had since grown up and regretted making them. He’s now on great terms with these same loved ones, but the issue remains. The question hangs over the Roloffs. How much of what we see each week is natural and normal? And how much is produced or even flat-out written for Amy, Matt and their kids? “For the most part, we keep it real,” Amy Roloff told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “My kids are real. They’re grounded … Granted, here we’re filming three hours and then take the one moment that people will say, ‘Oh, it’s scripted.’ “I say, ‘No, it didn’t feel like the three hours that I was in.’ I like to think that we’re pretty honest, we’re pretty real – at least I am – sometimes to a fault.” In other words: The show is edited. And these edits may be done in such a way to emphasize a certain topic or disagreement in order to boost interest — such as Matt and Amy’s fight a couple weeks ago over the farm . But nothing you see is fake by any definition of that word. How has a show that started off as an idea for a one-off documentary lasted this long? How has it actually set a Guiness World Record ? Source: Leon Bennett / Getty Layzie Bone is officially a dad, again. The Bone Thugs & Harmony was proven to be the father of a child after a paternity test’s conclusive results. The details are the real struggle, though. Reports TMZ : We broke the story … the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony rapper — real name Steven Howse — was involved in a paternity case in Michigan with the baby’s mother, Shateira Marketa Childress. She claimed he was the father of her child, Sevyn, and turns out … she was right. According to the test report … DNA samples were collected from the trio in April, and Layzie’s been determined to be the biological father with almost 100 percent certainty. As we told you, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is looking to establish Layzie as the father in order to determine how much he’ll have to fork over in child support. Reportedly, Layzie was involved in a different paternity test in 2013, and he was found to be the father in that case, too. But the kicker is he has three children, with his longtime wife. Those must have been some awkward convos.

Nathan Griffith called 911 several days, desperately seeking the answer to one important question: IS MY SON SAFE? And he had a pretty good reason to push for a response. As you must know by now, David Eason brutally beat his family's dog , Nugget, last Tuesday afternoon. He then took the dog into the woods and shot it dead. The incident is being investigated by the authorities and Jenelle Evans may or, more likely, may not file for divorce from her violent husband . But Griffith is the one who actually called 911 after apparently learning what happened from MTV producers. And because the four-year old son he shares with Evans lives with Jenelle and David… Nathan was rightfully VERY concerned. “I guess there was a dispute with my ex-fiancée and her husband and he shot a dog. And there’s been multiple 911 calls of abuse,” Griffith says in the video featured here, adding: “And I’m just trying to figure out where my son’s at and what I should do in this situation right now. “I’m just so confused right now. … I just want to make sure my son is safe.” Griffith isn't entirely sure what he's asking of the authorities in this case. It turns out that Kaiser wasn't home when Eason committed the homicide, but Nathan was unaware of that at the time he made the call. The former underwear model told the 911 operator that he has not “had contact with [Evans] in almost a year,” and did not know what to do in the wake of the “traumatic” event. “I just tried to text her. Obviously, she changed her phone number,” he says here. “I see my son every other weekend, but I have no communication with the mom and I just want to make sure my son is safe right now.” Did Nathan want police to conduct a welfare check? Yes, he responds. The dispatcher then takes down Griffith's information and says someone will be giving him a call shortly. “The day the story broke, I was frantic,” Griffith has since told The Ashley , adding: “I tried to reach out to Jenelle, but she wouldn’t respond. I called everyone I could think of — the MTV producers, CPS and the police to do a welfare check on my son.” He even said he tried to contact Eason directly, despite their intense rivalry. “I said, ‘I’m not trying to argue, but we need to talk. What is going on? Is there another story I’m not hearing what is going on?’” It doesn't sound as if Griffith ever got a hold of Eason, however. He also tells someone else while making this phone call that he's afraid “someone is going to die” at Jenelle and David's home. Take a listen now.

Last fall, Teen Mom 3 alum Mackenzie McKee announced that her mother was done with chemo . Fans had followed Angie Douthit’s cancer battle, and celebrated the joyous news. Unfortunately, Angie’s story has taken a dark turn. She and Mackenzie have now revealed that her cancer has returned with a vengeance, saying that it has “gone wild.” Angie Douthit took to Instagram to break the heartbreaking news to her fans and followers. “Brad and I received the results from my scans,” Angie writes. “It’s not what we had hoped for.” That is, unfortunately, an understatement. “I wish I could say that I’m in remission,” she expresses. “Or that the cancer has vanished.” “But instead this is what we were told,” Angie reveals. “Basically the cancer has gone wild.” “I have new tumors in my brain,” Angie announces. “And the old ones are growing.” This devastating news keeps getting worse. “The tumors in both my lungs are progressing and growing again,” she shares. “I have three tumors in my liver,” Angie adds. “It’s in my lymph nodes.” “And low and behold, it’s in my bones,” she solemnly divulges, specifying: “My breast bone and both of my femurs.” “Yes, we were shocked too,” Angie admits. “I knew things were strange,” she writes. “Because I have to take headache medicine,” “Excedrin and Aleve, twice a day to stop the headaches and body pain I’ve been having,” she says. She knew that something was wrong, “But I wouldn’t have ever guessed this.” “Apparently,” Angie remarks. “Immunotherapy was not for me.” “However,” Angie continues. “The first thing I did after we were told the news was I remembered my post from yesterday.” “I said aloud to the dr, ‘We promised to praise the Lord no matter what,'” Angie writes. “And that’s what we did.” “We drove home almost in silence,” she says. “Thanking God that I was still alive.” “We met with our kids and parents to tell them,” Angie explains. She adds: “We prayed diligently together.” “I pray that I can always have a sound mind,” Angie reveals. “And,” she says, she prays “that I can continue speaking until God is finished with me.” “Someone asked on Instagram if I praised my drs and the scientists,” Angie writes. “I laughed aloud,” she reveals. “Because, as nice as they are to me, they can’t fix me,” “Obviously.” Angie affirms. “I praise God alone.” “He is still in complete control,” Angie explains. “And he greatly loves me.” Some followers have taken issue with her religious affirmations, but folks, this is not the time and Instagram is not the place for theological debate. “We aren’t sure what my next medical step will be,” Angie admits. “I think a biopsy of my liver,” she guesses. “Then possibly more radiation, and more chemo.” That will be grueling, but she knows that. “I’ll do whatever God leads me to do,” Angie vows. “I appreciate all of your incredible prayers,” she writes. “Please continue to be kind and forgiving.” “Please do not get mad at God,” Angie asks her followers. “This is all part of his plan. T he racial health disparity surrounding diabetes is on the rise. According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health , in the U.S. Black adults are almost twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes in comparison to white adults. Actress Viola Davis is utilizing her platform as an avenue to spread awareness about this matter in hopes of reversing this alarming trend. She recently joined forces with the pharmaceutical company Merck to narrate a documentary that captures how the disease is impacting communities across the country, PR Newswire reported. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday. For Davis, the diabetes struggle is personal. She herself has prediabetes, two of her sisters were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and one of her family members died after battling with the disease. “I’m one of the 84 million American adults living with prediabetes and I’m sharing my story for the first time in an effort to inspire others to take action against the type 2 diabetes epidemic,” she said in a statement. “My sisters are both struggling with type 2 diabetes and my aunt also died from complications of the disease. Growing up, we just said they had ‘the sugar,’ which didn’t sound that concerning. But, when you look at the facts, there’s nothing harmless about diabetes – it’s a chronic disease that needs to be taken seriously if we’re going to get it under control.” The film explores how culture and socio-economic issues are intertwined with the epidemic. Conrod Kelly who serves as the Executive Director of the Diabetes Franchise at Merck says the film was created to put “a much-needed spotlight on the real people affected by it firsthand,” and hopes that it inspires people to take action. Films like A Touch of Sugar are needed to spread awareness about the ever-growing epidemic. According to the news outlet, 30 million adults in the U.S. are living with diabetes.
