Josh Brolin and Kathryn Boyd: ENGAGED!!

It’s official!  Josh Brolin and Kathryn Boyd are engaged. The news comes straight from Brolin’s rep, so we are excited to report the official news! According to an insider who talked to Us Weekly, Boyd, 47, got engaged sometime last month . After the proposal, Josh and Kathryn went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  There, they were spotted celebrating their engagement at Bar Esquina with a group of friends. “They were with two tables worth of people so it was a big group, more than eight people,” an eyewitness said. “They had a fixed menu and it seemed like they were celebrating something… It looked like a party and it seemed celebratory.” That sounds like an engagement party to us!!! From what the eye witness says, Brolin and Boyd were “all over each other” and that “she was sitting on his lap” at dinner. “They were kissing each other a lot, had their arms around each other,” the observer added. They were “super affectionate all night.” The Gangster Squad actor and his assistant began dating in March 2013, just one month after reps for both Brolin and his ex, Diane Lane, confirmed they were divorcing.  Lane and Brolin were married for eight years.  They finalized their divorce in November 2013. In February 2014, Brolin and his new lady were caught kissing in Rome. His marriage to Kathryn will be his third.  In addition to Diane Lane, he was also married to Alice Adair.  Adair and Brolin share two children, Trevor, 26, and Eden, 20. Hey, third time’s a charm! Kathryn might have her hands full though.  In 2013, Brolin rear-ended a car and got into a bar fight within 48 hours. Later, he checked into rehab for an alcohol addiction . REVIEW: Josh Brolin Makes Men in Black 3 Matter — Almost

It would be very easy to show up here and report that Men in Black 3 has no reason to exist, that it’s just another threequel that didn’t have to be made. The truth is a little more complicated: Men in Black 3 — which was, like its two predecessors, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld — is neither as much fun as the first picture in the series nor as totally useless as the second. It has an actual story line, one that’s quite moving in places. And it features a bit of casting that’s pure genius. Men in Black 3 is almost good enough to make you care about its existence. And yet not quite. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return as Agents J and K respectively, and their partnership is no more harmonious than it ever was: Agent J accuses K, quite justifiably, of barely being able to communicate on any human level. Agent K responds with yet more evasiveness: He’s a man of few words who appears to be carrying a great deal of baggage beneath his eyes alone. He has secrets, dammit, things that Agent J might be better off not knowing. Which makes Agent J that much more eager for some sort of connection with his partner-slash-father-figure. Meanwhile, Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement, from Flight of the Conchords , doing his best Tim Curry imitation), a goggle-eyed alien villain whose dastardly plan was foiled years ago by Agent K — the episode also cost him an arm — escapes from prison with the goal of traveling back in time to kill Agent K before that arrest, and that arm-hacking, can happen. Simultaneously, Agent J wakes up in world where Agent K has been dead for years; he too travels back in time, to 1969, aiming to save the life of his taciturn hound dog of a partner, a guy who, as J aptly puts it, has “kind of a surly Elvis thing happening with him.” Outside of an early scene in which J and K show up at a Chinese restaurant to investigate a health-code violation that involves noodle dishes laced with alien eyeballs and such, Men in Black 3 is pretty low on the silly, clever creepie-crawlies that were the mainstay of the original. (The script is by Etan Cohen, based on the comic-book characters created by Lowell Cunningham.) And because this is a costly summer blockbuster, released in 3-D no less, its last third is cluttered with the usual manic action, which is undistinguished and unmemorable. But Men in Black 3 does have its charms, partly thanks to some first-rate second-banana players: The luminous Emma Thompson and the radiant Alice Eve play older and younger versions of the same character, and their presence helps tone down some of Will Smith’s unbearable “Love me!” rays. Jones is barely in the movie, but at least he makes an impact: It’s fascinating to look at his face, aging apace in the normal fashion — how has it gotten to the point that it’s such a wonderful thing to watch an actor grow into the face he was meant to have? But most wonderful of all is Josh Brolin as the young Agent K. It’s so easy to believe that Brolin could turn into Jones, given a couple of decades. Brolin mimics Jones’s phrasing perfectly, capturing the essence of his easy drawl, getting those Southern-fried pauses just right. His features even carry that half-worried, half-exasperated look that Jones’ Agent K has always worn so well. The plot of Men in Black 3, once you strip away the silly action and 3-D falderal, is relatively simple and straightforward, and even though, in essence, it’s not anything you haven’t seen before, it still manages to strike a semi-meaningful chord. Its effects, particularly a sequence that takes place near the very top of the Chrysler Building, atop one of those majestic art deco eagles, are reasonably impressive. But somehow, its actors end up mattering more. Is that a strength or a liability in a summer blockbuster? It ought to be the former, but these days, who can tell for sure? Hmm, Where Have We Seen Will Smith’s Men in Black 3 Monocycle Before?

Sony has debuted a new chase scene from their upcoming sci-fi sequel Men in Black III , in which Will Smith and Josh Brolin (playing the young Tommy Lee Jones ) hop onto a pair of newfangled high-tech monocycles to chase some alien perps. But where have we seen these super-speedy circular vehicles before? Mr. Garrison, take “It” away… First, the men in black in their space-age cycles (via Yahoo ): “Do you have these in the future?” teases Brolin’s Agent K. “No,” the Fresh Prince responds. Well actually, in the year 2001 an enterprising Coloroadan named Mr. Garrison, fed up with airport security lines, invented such a contraption… Yep. Flexi-grips. The vehicle of the future! Er, or the past. Whatever. Men in Black III cycles into theaters May 25.

Here Comes the New Men in Black 3 Trailer (To Underwhelm You)

Sony’s got quite the job ahead of them selling the mega-budgeted sequel Men in Black III , due in May, if the new trailer is any indication: See Will Smith drop lines like “I don’t have no problem pimp-slapping the shiznit outta Andy Warhol” and be transported to a futuristic time-traveling retro ’60s that looks and sounds a lot like the one Austin Powers came from. I guess the ’90s are the new ’80s, but this is just lazy. The new sequel follows alien-hunting Agent J (Smith) into the past to save Agent K ( Tommy Lee Jones ) by teaming up with a younger version of K ( Josh Brolin doing his best Tommy Lee Jones impression). Look forward to the usual broad aliens-among-us gags and that mind eraser schtick that audiences loved in 1997! Smith bemoans that he’s “getting too old for this,” and I’m inclined to agree. Aren’t we all? Verdict: Looks tired. Insert mind eraser joke here.

Ryan Reynolds and Willem Dafoe Do Tree of Life-Lite in Delayed Fireflies in the Garden

If Sean Penn didn’t love the abstract narrative Terrence Malick employed in Tree of Life , maybe he’ll dig the pretty-similar, much more conventional stuff in the long-delayed Fireflies in the Garden — a Tree of Life Lite starring Ryan Reynolds as a middle-aged man who returns to his Texas childhood home to deal with his strained relationship with his stern father (Willem Dafoe). Period flashbacks, memories of an angelic mother (Julia Roberts), and a pivotal death that inspires exploration into deep emotional scars? The only things missing are the cosmic clouds of particles laden with meaning. Would Penn approve?

Josh Brolin to Star in Spike Lee’s Oldboy

Looks like Spike Lee got his rumored dream star for the Oldboy film he’s helming: Deadline reports that Josh Brolin will lead the English-language remake of Park Chan-wook’s 2003 thriller about a man held prisoner for 15 years who sets out for revenge upon release. With Brolin onboard, will Christian Bale sign on next as his mysterious foil? (And how faithful will Lee’s remake be to the brutality of the original?)

Josh Brolin In Talks for Gangster Squad

You might as well put Gangster Squad at the top of your must-see list for 2012. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has begun negotiating with Josh Brolin and the previously announced tandem of Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling to star. Ruben Fleischer will direct the L.A. Confidential -like film about cops and, well, gangsters in 1940s Los Angeles. [ Deadline ]

Check Out the Censored Oscar Kiss Between Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin

This year’s Academy Awards telecast was difficult to sit through . So it wouldn’t be surprising if you missed (translation: were asleep during) the awkwardly extended cut-away to Penélope Cruz during Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin’s impromptu presenter dance bit. If you did notice the strange editing choice though and suspected that something was amiss in the editing booth, you were right.
