The immediately family of one Modern Family star is about to change quite a bit. According to People Magazine, Julie Bowen and her husband of 13 years are going their separate ways. Bowen and Scott Phillips and got married in 2004 and share three kids together: Oliver, 10; and twins John and Gustav, both of whom are eight. There had been chatter for several months that Bowen and Phillips were on the outs, largely because they had not been seen together in public for quite some time. In fact, the pair were last photographed with their children at a Harlem Globetrotters game in Los Angeles nearly a year ago, in February of 2017. You have to go back farther than that, to September of 2016, to find the last time they walked the red carpet together. That also took place in Los Angeles, at the LGBT Center 47th Anniversary Gala Vanguard Awards in West Hollywood. Phillips – who works as a a real estate investor and software developer – did not attend the Emmy Awards in 2016, despite it being the couple’s 12th wedding anniversary and despite his wife’s sitcom being nominated at the time. Bowen, however, talked to People Magazine about the apparent snub and said there was nothing to read into it. “He’s come every year, he’s been so supportive and this year he was playing in a tennis tournament and I wasn’t nominated as an individual so I said, ‘What do you want to do on our anniversary?’’ she told the publication back then, adding: “I mean it’s such an honor to be nominated and to go, but it’s tough to be a purse holder.” That sounds reasonable. And it’s very possible that Phillips’ lack of attendance was unrelated to any marital strige. Elsewhere, in an interview with Us Weekly, the actress joked about being “too tired” to break up with Scott. “We watch all these people get married and split up and go, ‘Wait, did they get married after us or before us? We outlast all these people,” she remarked. “The answer: We’re too tired to do anything else!” That’s sort of funny… until it becomes clear that it’s actually more revealing than anything else. Bowen, of course has starred as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family since 2009. She has earned two Emmy Awards for the role and many millions of dollars.
