Image via Gina Ferazzi/Los Angeles Times via Getty Mass Shooting At Kentucky High School Leaves 2 Dead, Several Injured Over a dozen of students were left bloody and or dead at Marshall County High School after a 15-year-old student opened fire on his classmates this afternoon. According to NBCNews , 2 students have been pronounced dead and 14 of the other 17 were shot, the rest suffered other injuries. It didn’t take long for police to subdue the shooter and take him into custody, the shooting reportedly lasted only a few short minutes. Hard to believe this kid was taken alive. The shooting started at 7:57 a.m. shortly after the suspect entered the school’s common area, Kentucky State Police Commissioner Richard Sanders said. Two minutes later, dispatchers got the first 911 call, Sanders said. And police were on scene by 8:06 a.m. “He was apprehended nonviolently at the scene,” Webb said of the suspect. “There is no way to tell how far it would have gone.” Continue reading

Drugs Are Bad M’kay: Louisville, Kentucky Reports Nearly 52 Heroin Overdoses In 32 Hours

52 Heroin Overdoses Reported In Louisville, Kentucky Over The Weekend We know there probably isn’t a whole lot to do in Kentucky , but there HAS to be something more entertaining than shooting up heroin until you damn near die. But, according to CNN , that’s exactly what folks in Louisville like to do. This weekend over a 32 hour period, the city responded to 52 overdose emergency calls. A breakdown of overdose causes was not available, but Burmeister said most of those calls were heroin overdoses. Paramedics also dealt with overdoses of alcohol, prescription medications and other controlled substances. No overdose deaths were reported, but Burmeister said one person who’d been using heroin died while riding in a car that crashed. The driver also was using heroin, they said. As shocking as this might sound to you, it appears to be just another day in the bluegrass city where they notched 695 overdose calls in January alone. That’s 22 per day for those of you who aren’t math majors. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer talked about it during the State of the City address February 2, saying the police department is hiring 150 more officers and adding two new squads of detectives to address crimes involving narcotics. “We’re collaborating with the DEA on overdose death investigations to get heroin dealers off our streets, and forming a task force with other agencies, including the FBI, the DEA, ATF, the US Attorney, Kentucky State Police and the State Attorney General’s Office, to pursue, arrest and prosecute our most violent offenders,” he said. Not sure how much all those cops are going to help. If people want to get high, they are gonna get high. Sounds like more people will be going to jail though. Sure the city likes that… Image via Shutterstock

Beast Mode!!!! Super Bowl Ready Seattle Seahawks Offer Marshawn Lynch Huge Mutli-Million Contract Extension

Marshawn Lynch Gets Huge Contract Extension From Seahawks Will there be a press conference ?? Via NFL reports: The deal is believed to include more than $10 million for Lynch in the 2015 season alone. Lynch currently is slated to make $5 million in 2015, the final year of what originally was a four-year, $31 million deal. The Seahawks believe that Lynch, who has rushed for at least 1,200 yards in each of the past four seasons, has outplayed his contract, sources say. They want to reward him for his work. The new deal for Lynch has been a topic of discussion between Lynch’s agent Doug Hendrickson and the Seahawks for the last several weeks. He’s the heart-and-soul of their team, which they recognize, and they want him to retire a ‘Hawk. As for his compensation, Lynch could end up being the highest-paid running back not named Adrian Peterson using average-per-year as a measure. This is a stunning turnaround from where the Seahawks were with Lynch earlier in the season. For a variety of issues — including Lynch’s somewhat chilly relationship with coaches, his age and his hefty salary — the expectation was that Seattle wouldn’t bring Lynch back for another season. But the way Lynch has played and led this team to another Super Bowl forced the Seahawks to reverse course. All this after he held out of training camp last year and then saw the team move some money around to offer him a band aid-style contract solution. His 2014 salary went from $5 million to $6.5 million. In the last few weeks, the Seahawks made an offer for much more. That said, Lynch is an enigma. Sources close to him have said for months that if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl he could retire. Perhaps tonight there will be some answers. How do you feel about your huge contract extension Marshawn????? Marshawn: Welp.

A “Lil Positivity:” University President Cuts His Own Pay To Help Out Lowest Paid Workers

KSU President Takes Pay Cut To Increase Staff Salary A Kentucky University president did what many would consider unthinkable to show the lowest paid members of the school staff how appreciated they are. Via CNN : The story of his selfless act went viral, but for Raymond Burse it was simply second nature. “I’m not extraordinary,” said Burse. “I’ve assumed that people do those kinds of things all the time.” In summer 2014, Burse, who is president of Kentucky State University, gave up $90,000 of his almost $350,000 salary so that 24 of the university’s lowest paid workers could earn $10.25 an hour. The move gave them a 40% pay increase. “I don’t mind giving up some of what I have been able to obtain through life in order to be a small help to them in their own lives,” Burse said. Burse’s help didn’t end there. The 63 year-old later surprised KSU football player Deshon Floyd with the remaining $2,000 he needed to do an internship abroad. In December, Burse offered high school shooting victim Javaugntay Burroughs a full scholarship. “With all the things they had to deal with, one of the things they shouldn’t have to deal with is whether this young man was going to be able to go to college,” said Burse. Now THIS sounds like a man who really cares about his staff and students!
