Melanie “Mel B” Brown Says Eddie Murphy Was Her One True Love Before He ‘Spectacularly Dumped’ Her

Source: Jesse Grant / Getty Mel B Says Eddie Murphy Was The Love Of Her Life Mel B has had quite the whirlwind two years, divorcing her husband of over 10 years, Stephen Belafonte, and being wrapped up in multiple court cases regarding extortion, blackmail, and physical and financial abuse allegations. But according to Melanie, it all started when she lost the love of her life, Eddie Murphy. If you’ll recall, Mel B was in a year-long relationship with Eddie which resulted in their daughter Angel…but ended up getting dumped mid-pregnancy and meeting Stephen Belafonte before even giving birth. As she tells The Sun , in promotion of her upcoming memoir “Brutally Honest,” Eddie was her one great love, but she lost it all over a misunderstanding. “I‘d been madly in love with Eddie and I lost him. Eddie was and still is the love of my life. He’s a genuinely decent man. It’s like a love story where we both have different versions of why it ended.” Apparently Mel and Eddie met at a dinner party and had instant chemistry. The two were in relationship bliss for months on end. Eddie even asked Mel’s mother if he could have her hand in marriage, and Mel designed a Cartier engagement ring. Everything seemed perfect…until Melanie began to question if Eddie needed to have his entire family (his mother Lillian, his brother Charlie, multiple other family, friends, and staff members) living under his same roof. Things came to a head when she discovered she was pregnant. Eddie was over the moon with the news. But then Mel suggested they purchase their own home together — 50/50 split — separate from the multiple friends and family he shared space with. Eddie said no, and didn’t feel it to be necessary. That’s when arguments began, and Mel got the idea to force his hand with the silent treatment. “I told Eddie, ‘I need a break for a few days. I need time to think.’ ‘Are you insane?’ he said. ‘What do you need to think about?’” She took her then 7-year-old daughter Phoenix and flew from LA to Leeds, ignoring all of Eddie’s repeated calls. After a few days away, she boarded the plane back home to work things out and see if Eddie was ready to look at things her way. But while she was on the way home, a TV reporter asked Eddie about the pregnancy and he had THIS to say: “We’re not together anymore, and I don’t know whose that child is until it comes out and has a blood test.” Mel was devastated, raging on Eddie. She let him know what he had done — making her look like a gold digging opportunist unsure of who her child’s father was — was completely unforgivable. “He said, ‘Well, you left me.’ He sounded cold. I explained I hadn’t, then said, ‘I’m going to have to leave you now as this is what you’ve done to me’. I was pregnant. Dumped in public and made to look like a complete and utter slut and gold digger. I wasn’t prepared for that tidal wave of vitriol crashing over me. I still can’t forget being heavily pregnant with Angel and dropping Phoenix to school and a man driving past yelling ‘Whore!’ at me in front of all those LA mums.” Sheesh. Welp, next thing you know. Mel met Stephen Belafonte…who ended up squandering her $90 million fortune, blackmailing her with forced sex tapes, beating her, etc for the next 11 years of her life… “Eddie had publicly dumped me, I’d just given birth to our daughter Angel, and suddenly, here was this man who found me attractive and said he wanted to look after me.” Yikes. Who knows how things would have worked out if these two just had a simple conversation rather than lashing out at one another like this? Anita Bugge/WireImage/Jesse Grant/Getty Images

Billy McKnight on Mindy McCready Death: Not a Shock!

Billy McKnight, Mindy McCready’s ex, says what a lot of folks are probably, tragically thinking – that he’s not really surprised she committed suicide. “As sad as it is, it didn’t come as a major shock,” McKnight told the Today show Monday in the aftermath of Sunday’s Mindy McCready death . “She’s just been battling demons for so long,” he added. “I was around her when she attempted suicide twice, so I knew that this was in her.” Cleburne County, Ark., sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of gunshots Sunday and discovered McCready dead of an apparent suicide . The troubled country singer and mother of two was found dead on the front porch of her Heber Springs house. She was only 37 years old. Neighbors reportedly had heard two shots, and the deputies found dead both McCready’s dog and the singer herself deceased at the scene. McCready had struggled with myriad substance abuse issues for years. “The demons that she hasn’t beaten were there,” Billy McKnight said. Last month’s death of her fiance David Wilson, which is currently under investigation as either a suicide or a murder, was the latest warning sign. The courts ordered McCready to be institutionalized. Asked if she might’ve been released too early, McKnight, who shared a son with Mindy, said he knew she could talk her way out of anything . “I feel for her mother, her family and especially my son,” said McKnight, whose boy, Zander, was the subject of a bitter, prolonged custody battle. After Wilson’s death, Zander and his 10-month-old half-brother, Zayne, whose dad was Wilson, were placed in foster care, where they remain. McKnight said that he wants his son back now. “He needs to come home,” he said, though all bets are off as far as her younger son is concerned. “I don’t know what is going to happen to Zayne.” A sad, sad situation all the way around.

Harry Styles on Taylor Swift Split: "I’m Good"

Harry Styles has spoken out for the first time since his split from Taylor Swift . During a radio interview with London’s Capital FM yesterday, the One Direction member was asked how he’s been handling himself since his recent breakup with the country music superstar. “I’m okay, thank you for asking,” Styles replied. “I’m good.” Swift appeared to diss Styles in her Grammy performance of “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” using a British accent at one point. But Harry didn’t take this bait when the subject was broached. “She’s a great performer and she always performs great,” Styles said. “She’s always good on the stage. She’s been doing it a long time. She knows what she’s doing on stage. It was just another good Taylor Swift performance. It was good.” Styles and friends spent Valentine’s Day partying it up with women at Leeds University, sources say, having ” fun, drinking and chatting ,” according to Us Weekly insiders. Does he understand why folks are so interested in his personal life? Yes “I get it,” Styles says. “If someone does stuff like that then I wanna know about it, too… It is what it is, I guess.” Well said.

Paul Van Dyk Taps Arty, Austin Leeds, Adam Young For Evolution

‘It was important to collaborate with people that share the same passion in music that I have,’ EDM veteran tells MTV News. By Akshay Bhansali Paul Van Dyk Photo: Ilya S. Savenok/ Getty Images MTV News took great pride in heading down to Florida for Miami Music Week , the annual dance-music get-together. We particularly cherished the opportunity to catch up with Paul Van Dyk, fresh off a smashing set at Ice Palace; the highly decorated Grammy-winning German electronic-music producer is among EDM’s first true legends. “Stuff like ‘Home,’ ‘Time of Our Lives,’ also ‘For an Angel’ — people always request me to play them,” Van Dyk said of his past catalog of hits played for fans. “But I’m really excited because people already knew the new stuff from the album. They went really wild, so that was good!” The album Van Dyk speaks of is the veteran producer’s latest studio effort, his sixth, titled Evolution. It is not only a reflection of the renaissance he seeks to deliver with every new project, but also a sign of the times we live in today. “Look at electronic music,” Van Dyk said. “[It’s gone] from a small subculture 20 years ago to the biggest music culture in the world these days. Also, the way we communicate these days with each other: We didn’t have Facebook five years ago. “Or the way we actually listen to music: iPads, iPhone,” he continued. “How we buy it: iTunes and all that. We didn’t have that 10 years ago. So there’s a massive evolution in how we live together, how we basically enjoy each other. And this is what I tried to bring across with the album, in a way.” Van Dyk is quick to point out that Evolution is not a concept album, with tracks directly connected, but rather that the underlying cohesion comes from a main source of inspiration. “My inspiration is life in general: everything I see, everything I experience,” he said. “So when I go to the studio, every single track is based on that work ethic. And in terms of working on the album, for me it was very important to collaborate with people that share the same passion in music that I have.” Indeed, the project features a fine group of collaborators: The exceptional Austin Leeds appears on album opener “Symmetries” and “Verano.” One of the stand-out collabs comes from ‘s Adam Young on “Eternity,” born of their meeting three years ago. “It was long before ‘Fireflies,’ ” Van Dyk explained. “So there was this guy that was insanely creative. And we just decided, ‘Yeah, let’s do some music together.’ A few weeks later ‘Fireflies’ blew up. And I was like, ‘Holy crap! That’s Adam!’ ” Versatile EDM rising star Arty , championed early in his career by Van Dyk, is featured twice on the project, the second time in a compelling, untraditional way. “There’s a song on the album called ‘The Sun After Heartbreak,’ ” Van Dyk said of a track that also features vocals from Sue McLaren. “[It] is a pure example of what I always say: It’s not about ‘This is dubstep. This is house. This is electro. This is trance.’ It’s about electronic music, because otherwise how would you explain two people coming from the trancey world of things doing a track that is clearly influenced and driven by drum and bass? It’s purely because the creative process was leading us that way.” Related Artists Paul Van Dyk Adam Young Austin Leeds

My Chemical Romance’s ‘Kids From Yesterday’: Death Of Danger

Fan-made video for ‘The Kids From Yesterday’ looks back at the band’s rise to fame. By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way in “The Kids From Yesterday” music video Photo: Warner Music Group Really, My Chemical Romance ‘s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys deserved better. A big, bold re-invention of their sound and swagger, it was, by the band’s own admission, a “missile” aimed at destroying the staid state of rock and roll, and perhaps because of that fact, it failed to catch on here in the states. You could practically track its decline based on the videos MCR released off the album, starting with the big-budget “Na Na Na” and the equally flashy follow-up, “Sing,” in which they offed the titular Killjoys (who seemingly will never be heard of again). Their next single, “Planetary (Go!)” came coupled with a live video, and, to the best of my knowledge, a clip for “Bulletproof Heart” never materialized at all. My Chem actually seemed to address the matter in an interview with MTV News last year , in which frontman Gerard Way lamented that the band had “gone through so many things” over the course of the Danger Days cycle, and hinted that, if there were to be any more videos off the album, they’d have to be financed by MCR themselves. So it’s somewhat fitting that, on Monday, they unveiled the final clip from Danger Days: a fan-made video for “The Kids From Yesterday” that documents the band’s decade-long climb from Neo-Goth New Jersey rockers to interplanetary conceptual quartet. Like the song itself, the clip is a bittersweet thing, recounting MCR’s many triumphs (a pastiche of memorable live moments, it culminates with their headlining slots at Reading and Leeds this past summer), while leaving those who love to read between the lines to wonder if perhaps the band’s latest era also represents the end … not necessarily of My Chem themselves, but of a moment in rock that now seems to have all but disappeared. Truly, MCR were the last bastions of the heady heyday of mid-aughts MySpace punk, and now, well, who knows what’s next? Of course, much of the message behind Danger Days seems to be one of self-empowerment, of inspiring fans to take matters into their own hands and shaking up the status quo. That’s yet another reason why “Kids” is such a fitting sendoff; it was made in collaboration with a fan named Emily Eisemann, who had culled through live footage and initially created a clip of her own. There’s a reason why the video ends with the phrase “Art is the Weapon,” after all: it’s been the band’s clarion call this entire time. It’s also something Way touched on during Danger Days’ release, when he told MTV News that the album was not a conceptual piece, but rather “a complete allegory” for smashing the system and placing the power directly in the hands of their fans. And “Kids” is proof that MCR’s message was heard loud and clear, perhaps not by a majority of the record-buying public, but definitely — and most appropriately — by their fans. Sometimes, sales aren’t the only measure of a band’s success, and Danger Days is a testament to that fact. “Kids” may bring one chapter of their career to a close, but wherever My Chemical Romance go next, you know they’ll do so boldly; that’s what makes great bands truly great after all: the willingness to push the boundaries, to purvey inspiration, to shake things up … sometimes even at their own expense.
