Jenelle Evans Apologizes For Wishing Death on Nathan Griffith’s Brother as Fans Express Outrage on Twitter

A video released today that shows Jenelle Evans flipping out on the brother of her fiance Nathan Griffith was created quite an uproar online: Jenelle Evans Engagement Trip Fight The clip shows Evans telling Noah Griffith – a war veteran – that she wishes he “would have died in combat.” She goes on to taunt Griffith about a friend of his who was killed in Iraq.  Needless to say, the footage shocked Teen Mom fans when it was leaked online, and many of them took to social media and YouTube to express their disgust with Evans’ comments: “There is not justification for wishing death upon someone,” wrote one user. “People who die in combat are fighting for her and her family, and for Jenelle to say that is unbelievable.” Other Jenelle critics were less charitable: “What a complete sick, twisted, dumb psychopathic hypocrite,” reads one tweet. “The girl has 13 mugshots and no custody of Jace . She’s a criminal and a drug addict and slams people who serve our country,” says another. So Jenelle may have a hard time getting fans back on her side, but insiders say she’s already made amends with Noah. “Jenelle told Nathan’s brother she was sorry and shouldn’t have said those things,” a source tells Radar Online. “She is just trying to move forward and waiting for the hate on social media to end.” Hopefully she’s not holding her breath. There’s no denying that the footage is terrible and makes it harder than ever to like Jenelle. That being said, this latest family drama really has us hoping that MTV will televise Jenelle’s wedding . Too-Skinny Model Ban Takes Effect in Israel, Sparks Controversy

A controversial Israeli law banning too-skinny models is in effect as of January 1, 2013, prompting praise, controversy and debate over how much weight it will hold. So to speak. The law requires models to prove they have maintained a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 18.5 for three months prior to a fashion shoot or show. That means a 5’8” woman can weigh 119 pounds minimum. The law also requires advertisers to disclose if they have retouched or doctored photos. “This law is another step in the war against eating disorders,” said physician and law co-sponsor Rachel Adatto (with Danny Danon) of the act. Underweight models, she explained, “can no longer serve as role models for innocent young people who adopt and copy the illusion of thinness.” But critics of the law in this country say it is misguided, focusing on weight instead of health, and doomed to fail due to the muscle of the fashion industry. “I think it’s an approach that isn’t going to work,” eating disorder expert Susan Ice, V.P. of clinical services at Renfrew Center, told Yahoo! Shine . “I’ve learned that designers are really artists, and we have free speech here.” “We can’t tell anyone how to do art. If designers want women to look like boys or designers want women to look like 8-year-olds, you’re not going to change that.” But a champion of the new law, Adi Barkan, a former fashion-model agent in Israel, says the threat of eating disorders and body image issues is too great. “I became immersed in this world very quickly. I gave up the agency and photography and delved into the dark world of anorexics and bulimics,” he said. “I realized that only legislation can change the situation. There was no time to educate so many people, and the change had be forced on the industry.” “There was no time to waste, so many girls were dieting to death.” Even critics, including Ice, say there’s no denying that images from Hollywood and the fashion industry can be difficult for young women to deal with. “Certainly I don’t believe the modeling industry has caused the rise in eating disorders, but it makes it harder,” she says of the struggle faced by many. “It’s a difficult recovery environment, worshiping thinness as the beauty ideal.” One amazing upside? These Kate Upton bikini photos . No scary-low BMI worries on that page. Just a whole lot of distractions at work and school.

FDA Won’t Allow Food to Be Labeled "FREE of Genetic Modification"

'Extra labeling only confuses the consumer,' biotech spokesman says That the Food and Drug Administration is opposed to labeling foods that ARE genetically modified is no surprise anymore, but a report in the Washington Post indicates the FDA won't even allow food producers to label their foods as being FREE of genetic modification. In reporting that the FDA will likely not require the labeling of genetically modified salmon if it approves the food product for consumption, the Post's Lyndsey Layton notes that the federal agency “won't let conventional food makers trumpet the fact that their products don't contain genetically modified ingredients.” The agency warned the dairy industry in 1994 that it could not use “Hormone Free” labeling on milk from cows that are not given engineered hormones, because all milk contains some hormones. It has sent a flurry of enforcement letters to food makers, including B&G Foods, which was told it could not use the phrase “GMO-free” on its Polaner All Fruit strawberry spread label because GMO refers to genetically modified organisms and strawberries are produce, not organisms. It told the maker of Spectrum Canola Oil that it could not use a label that included a red circle with a line through it and the words “GMO,” saying the symbol suggested that there was something wrong with genetically engineered food. “This to me raises questions about whose interest the FDA is protecting,” House Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) told the Post. Kucinich has repeatedly introduced bills in the House that would require the labeling of genetically modified foods. David Edwards, director of animal biotechnology at the Biotechnology Industry Organization, told the Post that “extra labeling only confuses the consumer. … It differentiates products that are not different. As we stick more labels on products that don't really tell us anything more, it makes it harder for consumers to make their choices.” The Post notes that the debate over genetically modified salmon, which will be decided at an FDA advisory panel meeting this week, “comes at a time when Americans seem to want to know more about their food – where it is grown, how it is produced and what it contains.” “The public wants to know and the public has a right to know,” New York University nutrition professor Marion Nestle told the Post. “I think the agency has discretion, but it's under enormous political pressure to approve [the salmon] without labeling.” added by: Stoneyroad

Iran Paying Taliban for Dead US Soldiers

At least five Iranian companies stationed in Afghanistan are covertly funding Taliban militants, paying them salaries of $233 a month with a $1,000 bonus for killing an American soldier, according to the Sunday Times of London. Blowing up a US military vehicle is worth $6,000, making insurgents better paid than any Afghan police officer or soldier. “Iran will never stop funding us, because Americans are dangerous for them as well,” said a Taliban treasurer, who travels from the mountainous Wardak province to an Iranian construction company that operates out of Kabul to pick up the cash. “The money we get is not dirty. It is for jihad,” he said. The treasurer said he has picked up almost $79,000 in the past six months. Afghan intelligence and Taliban sources told the Times that the firms — set up with foreign aid money within the past six months — provide cash for a network of district Taliban treasurers to pay battlefield expenses and bonuses for killing the enemy and destroying their vehicles. The Iranian companies win contracts to supply materials and logistics to Afghans involved in reconstruction. The money often comes in the form of aid from foreign donors. Profits are transferred through poorly regulated Afghan banks — including Kabul Bank, which is partly owned by President Hamid Karzai's brother Mahmood — to Tehran and Dubai. From there, the money returns to Afghanistan through the informal Islamic banking system known as hawala. “This means the companies involved in funding the insurgency can cover their tracks easily. It makes it harder for us to trace the cash flow,” a senior Afghan intelligence official said. He said the Iranian companies had been formed with the intention of winning contracts funded by foreign aid so that donors' cash could be channeled into the insurgency. The Iranian embassy in Kabul refused to respond to the allegations.
