Domestic Abuse Allegation Won’t Go Away As Keith Ellison’s Campaign Heads To Finish Line

W ith Election Day nearing, the dark cloud of a domestic abuse scandal reappeared over U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison ’s campaign for Minnesota attorney general. See Also: Rep. Keith Ellison Hints His Ex-Girlfriend Is Trying To Sabotage His Campaign The congressman’s ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan posted an image of a medical document on social media Tuesday, which purports to show that Monahan told a doctor in 2017 that she had been in an abusive relationship with Ellison, the  Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Allegation of domestic abuse first surfaced in August, just days before Minnesota’s primary election. Ellison immediately denied the charge. His campaign did not respond right away to the Star Tribune’s request for comments on the medical document. A hospital spokeswoman declined to confirm whether the document is authentic because commenting would violate patient privacy rules. Rep. Keith Ellison's ex-girlfriend posts medical record to show she told a doctor in 2017 about their abusive relationship. https://t.co/uA6KJTu67Y pic.twitter.com/eg69Q16r1g — Star Tribune (@StarTribune) September 20, 2018 In an Aug. 11 Facebook post, Monahan’s son accused Ellison of sending his mother angry text messages and claimed that he viewed a video of an abusive incident in which Ellison allegedly pulled his mother’s legs and feet while she was lying on a bed. The video, however, has not been released, which has raised questions about its existence. MPR News reviewed more than 100 texts and Twitter messages between the congressman and Monahan, but found no evidence to support the allegations about angry messages. The messages revealed that the former couple communicated for months after their breakup. Their communication was sometimes friendly and at other times combative. Meanwhile, most Minnesota voters have been unsure what to make of the domestic abuse allegation. In a Star Tribune/MPR News Minnesota Poll conducted Sept. 10 to Sept. 12, a week before Monahan posted the medical document, 57 percent of participants said they didn’t know what to think about the abuse allegations. But 21 percent believed it, and 22 percent did not. However, the allegation had not damaged Ellison’s favorability standing with female voters. They preferred Ellison by 46 percent to 35 percent over his Republican rival for attorney general. SMFH: Minnesota Cop Charged For Punching Handcuffed 14-Year-Old Girl

REALLY?! Minnesota Cop Faces Misdemeanor For Punching 14-Year-Old Girl A St. Paul cop is on paid leave after he punched a 14-year-old girl TWICE in the face for spitting on him. A teen who was described as being upset, possibly suicidal and in need of psychiatric help, allegedly spat in the face of officer Michael Soucheray who then punched her and called her a “f*** b***.” The Washington Post reports: St. Paul Police Officer Michael Soucheray and his partner, Chris Rhoades, were sent to defuse the situation at Brittany’s Place, a shelter for girls on the east side of the Minnesota city in December. But the teenager “became agitated,” a criminal complaint says, and she gave officers and shelter staff the silent treatment. […] Then she cleared her throat and spat in Soucheray’s face, the complaint and the officer’s attorney say. Soucheray, a seven-year member of the police department, balled up his fist and punched the girl in the face, the complaint says. Then he did it again. He grabbed her by the jaw and called her “f—— b—-,” according to the complaint. On Monday, Soucheray was charged with fifth-degree assault, a misdemeanor that could land the officer in prison for 90 days. And the officer’s punch in the back of a patrol car has embroiled another Twin Cities police department in the heated national debate about police use of force. Soucheray is on paid administrative leave, as his police department conducts an internal investigation, according to his department’s Facebook page. Wow, only a misdemeanor? A rep for the officer says he was protecting himself from possible diseases when he punched the 14-year-old. Do YOU think the cop got the right punishment for assaulting a child?

Racist Trolls Freak Out Over Black Santa Claus at Mall

SPOILER ALERT: Santa Claus is not real. But this hasn't stopped a handful of racist Internet users from freaking out over the Mall of America in Minnesota daring to feature a Saint Nick played by Larry Jefferson-Gamble. Nevermind the fact that Jefferson-Gamble is a retired U.S. Army veteran. He's black! And the response of idiotic bigots to this fact prompted the Minnesota Star-Tribune to shut down the comments section for a simple profile of the mall’s first black Santa. Elsewhere, a CBS Minnesota report was also bombarded with negative and comments, leading us to wonder what the heck is wrong with a certain segment of the population. Because we want to keep believing that love trumps hate, however, we're here to present only POSITIVE social media reactions to Jefferson-Gamble as Santa. Why let the racists win, right? 1. This is What We’re Up Against Seriously, look at these comments. Talk about depressing… 2. Well Said, George Takei! We wish he wasn’t able to make this point, but history sadly speaks for itself. 3. Kind, Engaging and Thoughtful But… he’s black! 4. Such a Simple Concept Why is this so hard for people to grasp? 5. A Reason to Believe If not in Santa, at least in equality. 6. Wait for Me, Santa! Save me a spot on your lap please! View Slideshow
