Whoopi Goldberg On How She Married Three Times For Wrong Reasons

See the article here:

Source: Brian Ach / Getty In a new interview with the New York Times , Whoopi Goldberg was asked about being unsuccessful in love and marriage . The 63-year-old comedic legend has been married three times over the years, including to Alvin Martin from 1973 to 1979, David Claessen from 1986 to 1988, and most recently, and her shortest union, Lyle Trachtenberg from 1994 to 1995. In the past (in 2016 specifically), she simply said she was no longer married because “I don’t want somebody in my house.” In this new interview though, she broke things down a bit further, saying she was exchanging vows with these men for the wrong reasons. She felt like that was what she was supposed to do, but when she was actually in the marriages, she found there were certain things about being in a relationship that she just didn’t feel comfortable with. Those things included having to check in with someone else. So I kept trying to do that, but I didn’t want to share information with somebody else,” she said. “I didn’t want anybody asking me why I was doing what I was doing, or to have to make the other person feel better. But if you’re in a relationship, you have to do those things, and it took me a while to figure out that I didn’t want to. I’d be thinking, why don’t I feel the thing that I’m supposed to? Then one day I thought: I don’t have to do this. I don’t have to conform. I tried marriage, and it wasn’t for me. You can’t be in a marriage because everybody’s expecting you to.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! They would rather be ill than do that,” she said. “That’s insane. You can’t let a little out? ‘No, I don’t want her to know that I do it.’ She knows you do it! But you can’t say to people, ‘You must let it go.’ So I say: ‘Listen, if you’re comfortable, let it happen. If you’re not, I get it, but I think it’s not good for your body.’” Sis said thanks, but no thanks. For The Comic Book Nerds: Marvel Is Auctioning Off Over 800 Props From Their Cancelled Netflix Shows

Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN You Can Now Buy Some Props From Your Favorite Marvel Netflix Show A lot of fans were disappointed by the cancellations of numerous Marvel TV shows within the past year or so, but luckily for those same people, this is actually good news for memorabilia collectors. Marvel and Prop Store have teamed up to auction off over 850 authentic props  from the cancelled Netflix shows, which includes items from  Daredevil , Luke Cage , and Iron Fist . The auction includes costumes, set decorations, and props from Marvel’s recently nixed Netflix lineup, according to reports from The New York Post . One of the most expensive items in the catalog is the first iteration of Matt Murdock’s Daredevil costume, which starts at $10,000 and is estimated to bring in a smooth $30,000-$50,000.  Beyond that, the tank where Luke Cage was experimented on starts at $6,000 with estimates a sale between $12,000 and $15,000. But if you’re not looking to drop thousands of dollars on these props, there are plenty of more affordable items including Murdock’s cassette recorder starting at $150 and Elektra Natchios’ robe at $250. While online bidding for these items has already started, prospective buyers can also register for absentee bidding or bid over the phone during the live television auction on August 12-13. Marvel pulled the plug on its Netflix shows last year, which included Daredevil , Luke Cage , Iron Fist , Jessica Jones , and The Punisher . Many fans thought that the cancellation of these shows–or at least some of them–was only temporary so Marvel could take them over to their own upcoming streaming service, but now that they’re selling crucial set items that’s starting to look less likely.

Jodi Benson, The Original “Little Mermaid,” Defends Halle Bailey Being Cast As Ariel

Source: Joseph Marzullo/WENN.com / WENN The Original Ariel Responds To Everyone Mad At Disney’s Casting Decision As you’ve probably already heard by now, one of the biggest stories last week was the news that 19-year-old singer and actress Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in a live-action remake of  The Little Mermaid . You might know Halle from her group with her sister Chloe x Halle, or maybe you’ve seen her staring on Grown-ish with Yara Shahidi . Whether you’ve been a fan of Halle for a while now or this casting decision was your first time hearing of her, the second you hear her angelic singing voice there’s no doubt that she is absolutely perfect to portray the famous mermaid. Of course, racists with nothing better to do were up in arms over this decision, adopting the hashtag  #NotMyAriel and complaining that Disney cast a black performer in the role. While some people sat on their phones all day and cried about a fictional mermaid not being white, celebrities and friends of Halle all rallied behind the young star to show their support after the decision was announced. Freeform, the network that airs Grown-ish , even published a great response to everyone who thinks because Ariel is a Danish fairy tale, she has to be white. View this post on Instagram An open letter to the Poor, Unfortunate Souls: ______ #TheLittleMermaid #Ariel #MyAriel A post shared by Freeform (@freeform) on Jul 6, 2019 at 6:16pm PDT One of the most notable responses to come from this, though, was from Jodi Benson , the woman who voiced Ariel in Disney’s original animated film back in 1989. The singer just made an appearance at Supercon in Florida , where she was asked about the controversy–and she was ready to defend Halle, Disney, and their decision to cast the star as the newest iteration of Ariel. “I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters,” she replied. “What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart, and their spirit, is what really counts. And the outside package — cause let’s face it, I’m really, really old — and so when I’m singing “Part of Your World,” if you were to judge me on the way that I look on the outside, it might change the way that you interpret the song. But if you close your eyes, you can still hear the spirit of Ariel. We need to be storytellers. And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the color of our skin, our dialect, whether I’m tall or thin, whether I’m overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever color, we really need to tell the story.” In other words, #NotMyAriel hashtaggers can stay mad! If the original Ariel is cool with this new casting decision, how can you justify being mad over fake issues of “authenticity”? Halle Bailey is going to absolutely crush her role as Ariel and that’s all that needs to be said. See original here:

Source: Marilyn Nieves / Getty Drivers who hit the morning commute on I-285 this morning didn’t expect to see money flying from the sky, but they sure did. Early Tuesday morning, an armored truck filled with money spilled from the back spewing dollars all over 285 Westbound near Ashford-Dunwoody Road. Commuters saw a quick come up, as they pull over in the shoulder to dive in the streets to get themselves a nice handful of cash. Police fortunately say there were no accidents, and most of the cars where gone even before officers arrived. I bet this makes you slow up a bit when you see an armored truck. Rip Torn Dies; Veteran Film and TV Star Was 88

Rip Torn, an Emmy-Award winning actor known for a number of high-profile movie and television roles, died on Tuesday at his home in Connecticut.  He was 88 years old. The veteran actor’s publicist confirmed the news, telling outlets that Torn’s wife and two daughters were by his side when he passed away.  No cause of death has been given at this time, however. Throughout a career that incredibly spanned six decades, Torn established himself as a versatile performer who could excel in drama or comedy; on the big screen, small screen or in front of a live audience. He appeared in 10 Broadway plays overall, even directing one, along with over 80 feature films, and dozens of television programs. He may forever be remembered most, however, for his role on HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show, on which he played a TV produer and won his aforementioned Emmy. The late star’s  real name was Elmore Rual Torn Jr. He was born in Temple, Texas in 1931 and he studied acting at Texas A&M and the University of Texas prior to serving a stint in the Army and then heading to Los Angeles in the mid-1950s. Torn made his movie debut with an uncredited role in Elia Kazan’s 1956 film Baby Doll before relocating to New York City to study at the Actor’s Studio. The actor went on to made his Broadway debut in 1959 as part of the original cast of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth, portraying Tom, Jr., a character he would reprise for the feature film and TV movie adaptations. He was nominated for a Tony award in 1960 and received a Theater World award for his performance. On television Torn played such real-life and important figures as Richard Nixon, Lyndon B. Johnson and Walt Whitman. Known not just for his unique name and talent but also for his gravely drawl and sinister-looking smile, Torn excelled at playing shady, amoral characters and outright villains. But he could also merge this side of his personality with a comedic side, which is why many readers may recognize him as Patches O’Houlihan from the 2004 movie Dodge: An Underdog Story. “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball,” he said in maybe the film’s most memorable line. For many others, Torn will always be closely associated with the role of Artie on The Larry Sanders Show. He received six Emmy nominations, winning once in 1996, and over the show’s run was also nominated for two American Comedy awards (winning one), an American Television Award, and four Cable Ace awards (winning one), among numerous other accolades. “R.I.P Rip Torn. He was so great in Defending Your Life.  I’ll miss you Rip, you were a true original,” Tweeted Albert Brooks in response to this sad piece of news, while Will Smith added a photo of himself and the actor from Men In Black and wrote: R.I.P. Rip. Torn was married three times: To Ann Wedgeworth from 1955 to 1961, to Geraldine Page from 1963 until her death in 1987, and to Amy Wright from 1989 until his death. He is survived by Wright, his five children, his sister, and four grandchildren. May he rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam

10 Cringeworthy Scenes From 90’s Flicks That Wouldn’t Hold Up In Today’s Climate

Go here to see the original:

Source: Universal Pictures / Handout / Getty Ask anyone born before 2000, and they’ll agree that the 90’s was such a special time for everyone. Television was booming with Black talent and filmmakers like Spike Lee and John Singleton weren’t afraid to tell the raw truth about the issues plaguing the African American communities. The entertainment industry also had the creative license to do and say whatever they wanted no matter what demographic they offended — hence the reason we have films like American Pie . I miss the old raunchy movies they had out back in my day, like Freddy Got fingered, Road Trip, American Pie movie. Bring the classics back! pic.twitter.com/e61L4Af4WV — B1GPAT (@B1G_PAT) June 30, 2019 Today marks the 20th anniversary of American Pie , the raunchy 1999 comedy that follows four teenage boys (played by Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Eddie Kaye Thomas) on a quest to lose their virginities before graduation. The movie was such a huge deal for young Americans when it hit theaters; but if watched by young adults today, they’d have a totally different reaction to some of those gruesome scenes. Like the scene when Jason Biggs’ character sets up his computer camera to record the foreign exchange student changing her clothes, without her consent. That’s a sexual crime lawsuit waiting to happen. With so many powerful, life changing movements shifting the climate today , (and a culture of people being offended by the smallest thing) there’s not much room to express oneself fully without offending someone. Obviously, we all need to be a bit more mindful of the content we put out, but hit the flip to check out scenes from films that just wouldn’t fly today.
