Late Night Highlights: The Daily Show’s John Oliver Reports on Arizona Shooting in Panda Pajamas

It felt a little strange to see Jon Stewart so uncharacteristically serious on Monday’s edition of The Daily Show , but he was reporting on the horrible Arizona shooting tragedy…with the help of a correspondent in adult pajamas. Elsewhere in late night, Donald Glover showed off his Tracy Morgan impression, David Letterman let Snooki promote her new book, Winona Ryder discussed her irrational fear of the internet, and Jay Leno did his best snake.

Where Does ‘This is For All the Tostitos’ Rank on the List of All-Time Terrible One Liners?

Well, they all can’t be, “Do you believe in miracles?” Sports fan or not, you’re going to want to watch what happened at the end of the BCS Championship Game between Auburn and Oregon — which Auburn won on a last second field goal, 22-19 — if only because it might have featured the worst one-liner in the history of humanity. Seriously. Worse than even Arnold Schwarzzenger throwing a knife through a guy in Predator , and saying, ” Stick around .” The guilty party was Brent Musburger, the title sponsor of the game was Tostitos, and let’s just say this one will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Click ahead for the carnage.

Golden-Voiced Ted Williams Detained by LAPD

Let’s hope this isn’t the beginning of the end to the feel good story of 2011: The LA Times reports that Ted Williams and a unidentified family member “were detained after police were called to the Renaissance Hotel on a disturbance call” on Monday night. The Kraft pitchman — and future Jack Nicholson co-star — was released after questioning, and it’s unclear whether any arrests will be made as a result of the call. [ LAT /L.A. Now ]

Like Many Others, Darren Aronofsky Has Beef With Armond White

It looks like Darren Aronofsky couldn’t limit his swipes at Armond White to anonymous blog comments like the rest of us. While presenting Matthew Libatique with the Best Cinematography award at Monday night’s New York Film Critics’ Circle Awards ceremony, the Black Swan director unloaded on White, the NYFCC chair: “I thought I was giving Armond White the compassion award because if you don’t have something you should get it,” said Aronofsky . “Seriously, keep it up because you give all of us another reason not to read New York Press .” Try the veal!

Stage Musical of Once Set to Debut in the Fall

Any excuse to post ” Falling Slowly ,” is an excuse I’ll gladly take. The New York Times reports that Irish playwright Enda Walsh and the Scottish director John Tiffany will collaborate on the stage adaptation of Once for Broadway. The current plan is to open the show — which will feature music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova — in the fall. Assume this film-to-stage adaptation will go better than Spider-Man . No Grit: Coen Brothers Shut Out at Directors Guild

Remember all that talk about how True Grit was the new Best Picture front runner because of its muscular box office ($110 million and counting)? Yeah, perhaps not. Joel and Ethan Coen failed to received a nomination from the Directors Guild this morning, meaning True Grit ‘s road to winning Best Picture just hit a major bump in the road. Or it didn’t, since the Coens could still grab a Best Director nomination from the Academy at the end of this month. Otherwise, this list features your usual suspects. Click ahead for the nominees.

First Look at Antonio Banderas in Pedro Almodóvar’s The Skin That I Inhabit Hints at Sci-Fi

The first still from Pedro Almodóvar’s upcoming The Skin That I Inhabit is a doozy; a funny, sinister image that looks like it was ripped straight from a 50’s Sci-Fi movie that starred Antonio Banderas. That said, it’s still difficult to tell what direction Almodóvar is going with this one. The novel the film is based on, Mygale by Thierry Jonquet, concerns a plastic surgeon obsessed with exacting revenge for his daughter’s death while also trying to create a new type of skin. But previous synopses for the film emphasize the revenge aspect and completely ignore the science-fiction angle. Either way, it’s a great still. Check out Banderas and his experiment after the jump.

Is Captain America’s Cosmic Cube Actually Just a Lucite Photo Frame?

Full disclosure: My working knowledge of Captain America mythology is minimal. So, if you’re a fan, perhaps this picture of Hugo Weaving-as-Red Skull holding the Cosmic Cube in Captain America: The First Avenger is fifty kinds of awesome. To me, it just looks like Agent Smith from The Matrix is leering at one of those Lucite photo frames you’d find filled with old pictures on someone’s desk . Either way! Click ahead to marvel (ding!) at your first look at the wish-granting plastic.

Over the weekend, Jersey Shore stars, budding entrepreneurs and unskilled impressionists Snooki and JWoww made a video of themselves hosting a fake talk show using their best Linda Richman accents. It was part fun, and bigger part revenge on Joy Behar, who has mercilessly (and deservedly?) insulted the duo on The View day in and day out. Click ahead to hear Snooki find her inner yenta and JWoww knowingly reference the Great Depression. Lorne Michaels, do we have the next Coffee Talk on our hands?
