Glenn Beck Really Loved Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark

Like really loved it. More than Wicked even! “After you couldn’t get a ticket to Spider-Man and you’ve offered a kidney for it, go see Wicked ,” Beck said during his nationally syndicated radio show on Wednesday. “I mean, you’ve got two kidneys. Don’t give both kidneys up — go see Wicked before you give both kidneys. But give a kidney to go see Spider-Man .” Someone stick that on the poster! [ NYT /ArtsBeat ]

Damon Lindelof Helps Write Sideways Universe Version of Sex and the City 2

Say what you will about Damon Lindelof, but the man has a knack for parodying bloated Hollywood excess. You’ll recall that last June Lindelof wrote a BP-themed sequel treatment for Esquire titled Armageddoner! , and now he’s back with an alternate version of Sex and the City 2 . Don’t worry, fans; this version doesn’t feature a big meeting of all Carrie’s ex-boyfriends in a church at some unknown time in the afterlife. It does feature a fatwa, though.

See Rooney Mara Transform into Lisbeth Salander for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

There have been paparazzi spied glimpses of Rooney Mara in character as Lisbeth Salander on the set of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , but official looks at her striking transformation from Mark Zuckerberg dumper to leather-clad computer hacker have alluded the Internet. Until now, of course. Mara graces the cover of W magazine in full Lisbeth regalia, and she looks positively bad ass. Click ahead for your first look.

Russell Crowe Appears Confirmed For RZA’s Kung-Fu Film

Besides the exciting news that Wu-Tang Clan member and martial arts-aficionado RZA’ s Kung Fu film The Man with the Iron Fist was actually beginning production in China, there hasn’t been much to report on the project. The fact that co-writer Eli Roth stepped on as producer along with Quentin Tarantino seemed like a forgone conclusion and the cast of Lucy Liu, Daniel Wu and Byron Mann more or less made sense. But finally, a bombshell of sorts: Russell Crowe appears confirmed to star in the film.

I Am Not Ready to Live in a World Where Michelle Pfeiffer Plays Chris Pine’s Mother

I am not ready to live in a world where Michelle Pfeiffer plays Chris Pine’s mother. That world is one we will reportedly live in, and soon, according to recent casting news. Nothing against Pine, a pleasant young talent I look forward to seeing in a smallish drama for once as opposed to smirky sci-fi/action-flick tentpole bombast. And nothing against Pfeiffer, whose choppy last decade of work overshadows her more historic demonstration of versatility and taste. (OK: Grease 2 and Scarface , but they weren’t her fault and everyone must start somewhere.) This may be a wonderful collaboration! All I’m saying is I am just not ready to live in a world… where Michelle Pfeiffer… plays Chris Pine’s mother.

9 More Directors Who Should Shoot Their Next Film on an iPhone

News recently broke that acclaimed Old Boy director Park Chan-Wook shot his new thirty minute horror film on an iPhone. The film, Paranmanjang , had a $130,000 budget and will be released in nine cinemas nationwide. Yep, welcome to 2011! Sure, Chan-Wook is a solid filmmaker and it may be interesting to see how he handles an iPhone movie, but all the same I’d prefer that great filmmakers not get in the habit of shooting movies on cell phones. But since trends seem to operate independent of my opinion, it’s always good to take a look at the silver lining. With that in mind, here are nine major filmmakers who might actually benefit from making their next film on an iPhone.

VIDEO: ‘There is No QUARK on My BEND IT’ in Subtitled Version of True Grit

As we noted , The Coen Brothers’ runaway Western-revenge hit True Grit contains some pretty interesting vocal tics. And yes, by “interesting,” we meant “completely incomprehensible.” Now, some folks at College Humor have added handy subtitles for a few of Jeff Bridges’ grunts and slurs. Or at least, they tried. Watch the video after the jump to learn about Bridges’ “occupied jinx,” his “quark” and his “bend it.” Here’s hoping for a DVD special feature that includes phonetic subtitles for the whole film.
