Salt, Alice in Wonderland and the Worst-Reviewed Films Nominated For an Oscar

The gold standard for bad movies getting Oscar love has to be 2007’s multiple Razzie-winning Norbit , which earned an Oscar nod for Best Make-up, and from that moment forward demanded to be called by its rightful name: ” The Academy Award-Nominated Norbit .” (Shudder.) This year’s crop of Oscar-nominated critical duds are cinematic masterworks by comparison — and most of them can thank the thankless effects, costume, and sound mixing technicians for the profile-boost — but still… who’da thunk these 8 films would have come this far?

New Trailer for Teen Assassin Flick Hanna: There Will Be Jokes

While the idea of Eric Bana raising Saoirse Ronan in the woods to be a ruthless killer a little funny in its way, the first trailer for Joe Wright’s Hanna played it’s little-girl assassin story pretty straight. Now, thanks to those laughter-loving Brits, we have a new trailer that still looks like fun, and shows off the lighter side of being a lethal, adolescent rogue.

VIDEO: James Franco Makes His Own Oscar Promo with an iPhone

I guess this video of James Franco rocking out while an assistant shaves him with what looks like a disposable razor is a promo for his Oscar hosting gig. According to the description, “James likes to relax with a nice shave and a song before he hosts any award shows.” Alright James, don’t you mean three weeks before you host any awards show? In any case, if you were sad that you missed Franco’s karaoke at Sundance, this will help make up for it. And his song choice is fantastic.

See James Franco and Anne Hathaway Casually Rub Shoulders With a Giant Oscar

“OK, Anne and James, in this one, just lean on that ten foot tall statue and look as casual as possible. No, more casual. That’s it! James, you’re a casual tiger right now!” Oh, sorry, I was just pretending to be the photographer of this brand new promotional still featuring Oscar hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco. This picture tells you absolutely nothing about what kind of job the pair will do on Feb. 27, but it does reinforce what you already knew: Francaway make quite an adorable couple, in a rom-com poster-ready sort of way. Restrepo’s Sebastian Junger Will Head Back to Afghanistan After the Oscars

Last year at this time, journalist Sebastian Junger and war photographer Tim Hetherington were on their way to seeing Restrepo win Best Documentary from the jury at Sundance. Today, the pair are Oscar nominees for their searing and critically acclaimed film about the war in Afghanistan. Which doesn’t mean the story is complete, of course: Junger and Hetherington will head back to Afghanistan in April.

Inception Oscar Nominee Hans Zimmer ‘Quite Shocked’ That Christopher Nolan Was Snubbed

Hans Zimmer has been here before. His nomination today for Inception marked Zimmer’s ninth in the Best Original Score category, an award he’s won once before, for The Lion King . But on a day most people are celebrating, Zimmer is lamenting the fact that his director, Christopher Nolan (who Zimmer also worked with on the Batman films and The Prestige ), was denied a Best Director nomination once again.
