Justin Bieber’s Next Big Adventure: Pee-wee Herman’s Movie?

Pee-wee makes a plea from Comic-Con for singer to cameo in his Judd Apatow-produced film. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Justin Bieber Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images SAN DIEGO — Beliebers are in luck, because Justin Bieber might be heading to the big screen once again soon, if Pee-wee Herman has his way. Turns out Herman, who has been working on a new film alongside producer Judd Apatow , has recently written the VMA nominee in as one of the celebrity cameos. The only problem? Bieber doesn’t know yet. “I can’t really tell [what the cameo is], but he makes an appearance toward the end of the film,” Herman (actor Paul Reubens, but we definitely interviewed Pee-wee) told MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con . “He doesn’t know about it yet, so if you’re watching this, Justin!” That’s not the only grade-A cameo Herman has written into the script. He has his eyes on lots of stars — and the White House. “There’s a party scene in the film that I think will have a lot of the stars. We just wrote President Obama into them. We have an offer out to him,” Herman unveiled. Will any other government officials be given a role in the movie? “Sarah Palin wasn’t asked. I have to draw the line somewhere, and unfortunately that’s where it was drawn. I’m sorry, Sarah, I’m sorry,” he whispered. The script for the currently unnamed comedy is being looked at by Universal Studios at the moment, and Herman said he hoped filming could begin within the next couple of months. It only helps that he has Apatow in his court and that the director/producer has words of wisdom to pass on to Herman to make the best comedy he can. “He’s given us the same advice over and over again, which is ’emotional arc,’ ” Herman explained. “He wants the character to go through an emotional arc and to come out on the other end arced. So that’s what we’re doing. We’re adding an emotional arc. Emotional growth, so there’s a change in Pee-wee Herman during this film. Pee-wee makes a change.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Family Guy’ Exclusive: Nine Minutes Of ‘Star Wars’ Parody ‘It’s A Trap!’

‘It’s definitely the most visually stunning of all of the ones we’ve done,’ creator Seth MacFarlane tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Brian, Peter and Lois Griffin in “Family Guy: It’s A Trap!” Photo: Fox Back at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane showed off a first-look at “It’s a Trap!,” the final installment in the animated series’ parodies of the “Star Wars” franchise. But unless you were lucky enough to be sitting in those hallowed, geek-filled halls, you’ve barely seen anything from the hour-long episode, which tweaks “Return of the Jedi” to hilarious effect. That’s why MTV News is happy to present nine minutes from “It’s a Trap,” which hits DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday. “It’s more of exactly the same kind of jokes you’ve seen in the other two,” MacFarlane deadpanned in a Comic-Con chat with us. “So if you like those, this is the same and you’ll enjoy it just as much.” That’s just a bit of an understatement, but it’s also true: The third episode is no letdown from the first two. Once again, young Chris Griffin plays Luke Skywalker. He’s joined by Peter as Han Solo, Lois as Princess Leia, Brian as Chewbacca, Stewie as Darth Vader and all manner of other “Family Guy” characters in various roles. (Paraplegic Joe as Jabba the Hut? Well played!) “It’s a Trap!” begins exactly as the episodes that preceded it, with a LOL-tastic take on the “Star Wars” franchise’s iconic opening crawl: “Luke Skywalker has returned to his home planet of Tatooine in order to — okay, you know what, we don’t care. We were thinking of not even doing this one. Fox made us do it … I’m sorry. I took a muscle relaxer earlier and it’s kicking in.” From there it’s off to the Death Star. We see Solo getting a fart-filled release from his carbonite prison, Meg Griffin as the multi-tentacled sarlacc beast, a Stormtrooper bicycle chase, and appearances from “American Dad!” characters Roger the alien and Klaus the fish in “Jedi” character. Random cameos include Pee-wee Herman, Ted Knight ripped from “Caddyshack” footage and the boogie-woogie piano stylings of Ray Charles. The whole production has never looked better. As MacFarlane explained, “It’s definitely the most visually stunning of all of the ones we’ve done.” Just don’t expect the “Family Guy” guys to attack the three newest “Star Wars” flicks. Says MacFarlane, “I would rather chew broken glass.” What did you think of the “It’s a Trap!” teaser? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Exclusive ‘Family Guy: It’s A Trap!’ Preview Clips

Judd Apatow Working On Pee-Wee Herman Movie

‘Superbad’ boss will produce as-yet-untitled project starring and co-written by Pee-wee creator Paul Reubens. By Gil Kaufman Judd Apatow Photo: Michael Tran/FilmMagic In a perverse match made in movie-dude heaven, “Superbad” boss Judd Apatow is developing an as-yet-untitled Pee-wee Herman movie that will find the bow-tie-wearing ageless man-child going on a road trip built around a “gigantic adventure.” According to Variety , Apatow will produce, but not direct, the movie, which is being written by Pee-wee creator Paul Reubens along with “Inglorious Basterds” scriptwriter Paul Rust. “Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-wee Herman,” Apatow told the magazine. “I am so excited to be working with Paul Reubens — who is an extraordinary and groundbreaking actor and writer. It’s so great to watch him return with such relevance.” The unlikely pair hooked up after Apatow attended one of Reubens’ recent string of “Pee-wee Herman Show” revival gigs in Los Angeles. After decades on the shelf, Reubens dusted off the show for a rabidly received run in January and February that also led to an upcoming 10-week booking on Broadway starting October 26. Reubens, who has sparingly rolled out the high-water Pee-wee gray suit and bowtie over the past 20 years in the wake of a 1991 arrest for indecent exposure at an adult theater in Florida, has slowly been making his way back into acting over the past decade. He’s made a number of cameos over the years, including spots on “Reno 911!” and a bit in the Raconteurs’ “Steady as She Goes” video, as well as stints on “30 Rock,” “Dirt,” “Chowder” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” “There is no one like Judd in our business — he loves comedy with emotion and heart, and he sees what we do as art,” said Reubens, whose big-screen debut in “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” was handled by none other than “Alice in Wonderland” director Tim Burton in his feature directing debut. “I can’t believe I’m getting this opportunity to be working with him.” It will be the first Pee-wee big-screen adventure since 1988’s sequel, “Big Top Pee-wee.” As if the Apatow-Reubens collabo isn’t enough for freaks and geeks to get excited about, Variety also reported that IFC is going to air two of Apatow’s early series, “Freaks and Geeks” and “Undeclared,” with “Freaks” — featuring then-little-known actors James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Linda Cardellini — slated to start rolling out on Friday (July 2) and “Undeclared” slated for the fall, complete with unaired episodes.
