Aint Isht Bosses: Restaurant Faces Backlash After Threatening To Fire Employee For Attending Friend’s Funeral

Source: andresr / Getty Restaurant Threatens To Fire Employee For Getting Shift Covered One restaurant in New Jersey is facing some serious backlash after a manager threatened to fire an employee who wanted to attend a friend’s funeral and was looking to get their shift covered. The college student from the College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is a hostess at Café Seventy-Two. She texted her boss, Katie, to check if there was another host who could take one of her shifts. As evidenced by screenshots of this exchange, Katie hastily replied, “Are you serious? No,” before the employee had an opportunity to explain the reason she needed her shift covered. “Someone close to my just passed away, and I’m trying to find a cover for my shifts so I can attend the funeral service rather than call out and leave you guys hanging,” the student wrote, also sending a link to the announcement of Michael Sot’s death, who was killed in a car accident on Sunday. The response from her boss was anything but understanding, which reads: “Oh wow thanks. Just don’t come back to work.” Katie continued,  “I like you but I’m sick of all staff not taking their job seriously and just f***ing expect me to cover all of your shifts. I have a business to run at the end of the day. And a family.” Screenshots of the exchange were soon posted to a TCNJ Facebook group, where students showed their support for the employee by saying that they would no longer bring their business to Café Seventy-Two. Students also decided to trash the restaurant on both its Facebook (which has since been deleted) and Yelp pages. The restaurant’s co-owner, and Katie’s husband, Ben, wrote an apology, ensuring that the employee was not fired, also revealing their donation to Michael Sot’s GoFundMe. Hello to all of our loyal customers. My name is Ben, the owner and operator of Café 72, a long standing family run business. I am also the husband of “Katie Café 72”. You may or may not have seen some posts on social media reflecting an interaction with a current Café 72 employee whom is also a TCNJ student affected by the recent tragic death of Michael Sot. The employee was not fired. Her last shifts were this weekend before leaving for holiday break to be with her family and friends until January 28th. This private conversation was not related in any way to the mourning of Michael. Although this interaction was displayed completely out of context by a friend of the employee and drastically misrepresents Katie and our establishment, we recognize that there is NOTHING that excuses it. We carelessly let the stresses of family and business replace the professionalism, respect and empathy that every employee and person deserves. We have received countless hate emails, bad reviews and threatening phone calls and ask that they STOP. We understand the anger and animosity that has been created by these posts, and ask for the communities’ forgiveness. On behalf of Café 72 and our family, we offer our sincerest apology. We have been residents of Ewing and operated business for many years in this township. Café 72 has gone above and beyond for Ewing Township and TCNJ through gas explosions, hurricanes, snow storms and other tragedies and will continue to do so. We recognize that it is our patrons and the community that make us special and a place to come together as one. We would like to turn the tremendous amount of negativity around and create as much positivity as possible by contributing $1000 to Michael’s GoFundMe page. We would also like to add to this donation by giving another 10% of all sales the remainder of this week in his honor. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.

Casino Claims Charles Oakley Cheated Three Times Before Arrest

Fortunately, he won’t see a day in jail as his attorneys were able to cut a deal in which the felony charge was dropped to a misdemeanor and as well as a punishment in the form of a $1,000 fine. According to TMZ: “Mr. Oakley has pled no contest to the simple misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct which fully resolves this situation,” Oakley’s attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, said in a statement.  “He appreciates the professionalism of the District Attorney and the Cosmopolitan in resolving this event.” Hopefully this is the last time Charles Oakley finds himself in cuffs for these kinds of shenanigans. A few weeks ago Charles Oakley was arrested at a Las Vegas casino for trying to pull a fast one while gambling. Though specifics about how Oakley cheated has been scarce, TMZ reported that the former NBA All-Star was busted for cheating not once, not twice, but three times during a game of Ultimate Texas Hold’Em (sounds like an app). OnJuly 8th Oakley was arrested at the Cosmopolitan Hotel for the offenses he allegedly committed and court documents detail just how it all went down. Oakley was playing the Ultimate Texas Hold’Em table game — where both player and dealer get 2 cards, in addition to a community 5-card draw.  Of the 7 cards in play, the dealer and player use their best 5 cards to see who has the best hand.  During the first hand, Oakley started off strong … with a pair of 4s. But, the dealer ended up with a winning hand … 2 pair. When Oakley realized he was gonna lose, he allegedly pulled back a $100 chip from his bet.  Later on during the gambling session, Oakley had a monster hand — 3 of a kind — and this time, officials say he secretly ADDED chips to his bet on 2 different occasions during the hand, thereby increasing his payout by $125.  Officials say it was all captured on casino surveillance — and he was arrested on the spot.  What cha doin,’ Oak?! We’ve all seen Casino and we know how many eyes are in the sky. Come on, bruh! He lucky Robert Dinero wasn’t in charge up in there. The former New York Knick tried to claim “ignorance” stating that he had been playing the game for close to 119 hours, but they weren’t buying that for a single chip. Originally Oak was charged with a felony and faced up to 6 years in the bing, but since the charge has been reduced to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct and he’ll likely get off with a slap on the wrist. ‘Bout the only slap anyone can get away with putting on Oak.

Woman Sues Hospital After Anesthesiologist Draws Mustache On Her Face What would you do if you woke up from surgery only to be showed a photo of yourself while sedated with a mustache drawn on your face? This California woman didn’t find it funny at the time, but she just might end up laughing all the way to the bank. via Gawker A former patient of Southern California’s Torrance Memorial Medical Center is suing the hospital after an anesthesiologist took advantage of her unconscious state to draw a black mustache and yellow teardrops on her face. Veronica Valdez, 36, went in for minor surgery in October 2011 confident in the professionalism of the hospital’s staff, having worked there as an administrator for the previous 13 years. But her feelings toward the medical team changed soon after the operation, when she was shown a photo snapped during her procedure showing her lying on the operating table with a fake mustache and teardrops affixed to her face. Patient Sues Doctor for Drawing Mustache on Her Face During Surgery The prank was apparently the brainchild of Dr. Patrick Yang, her anesthesiologist. “I thought she would think this is funny and she would appreciate it,” Yang said in a deposition during the ensuing investigation. Madonna Super Bowl Gig A ‘No-Brainer’ For Cee Lo

‘The Voice’ judge gives MTV News exclusive, behind-the-scenes scoop about Sunday’s halftime show. By Jocelyn Vena Cee Lo Green and Madonna perform at the Super Bowl on Sunday Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images When Madonna calls, you answer. The Queen of Pop rang up Cee Lo Green several months back about performing “Like a Prayer” during the Super Bowl halftime show , and he didn’t give it a second thought. “I was asked — cordially invited — by Madonna to be a part of it and, of course, very eagerly obliged. So it was basically as simple as that,” he told MTV News late Monday about the eye-catching gig, which included a dazzling light show, loads of dancers and fellow guests LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. “It was kind of like a no-brainer. Working with Madonna is a very simple process,” he added. “She’s a very hard worker, quite the perfectionist, and we worked awfully hard for that entire 12-minute performance to be as close to perfection as possible.” With 100 million-plus viewers tuning in to the game and halftime show , it was no doubt the biggest audience Cee Lo and company had ever performed in front of. But everyone was so ready for anything that there was very little room for error or time to be nervous, Cee Lo told us. “In our line of business and at this point of my career, I think I’m as prepared as you can be,” he said. “I’m most certainly poised to be in that place, in this place. It’s where we rehearsed, so well in advance, that it becomes a second nature.” Cee Lo cited the professionalism of Madge and the entire crew for the performance going off without a hitch. “The technicalities of it are just amazing,” he said. “[It was] such a large crew that really helped. Without their tenacity and their know-how, it could not be done. It would be impossible. So I must commend the entire crew. Technically it takes an entire team to make something like that a success.” Fashion also played a big part in the performance. While Madonna was sporting looks by Givenchy, Cee Lo’s black, sequined choir robe was a design all his own. “They tease and they call me ‘Reverend Green’ and ‘Preacher Green,’ so I had a couple of those robes made just for fun,” he explained. “I mean, you know me, I’m still the same, you know, known for my sense of style, so on and so forth. And when the nature of the performance was discussed and they were saying, ‘We’re gonna do “Like a Prayer” and everyone will be in robes,’ and they were looking for my measurements to see if they were going to have to make me one, and I was like, ‘What do you mean? I have my own already!’ So she was pretty touched by that. I brought a lot of myself.” What did you think of Cee Lo’s contribution to the halftime show? Let us know in the comments! ‘Twilight’ Star Taylor Lautner’s Taste In Music Is ‘So Wild’

‘I am all over the place with my music,’ the actor tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News When actors talk about getting into character or prepping for scenes, Lee Stasberg’s famous “Method” acting — in which performers are instructed to draw upon personal memories and experiences through a series of sense-memory exercises — is often referenced as a popular, classic tool. However, with the advent of pocket-size music players, many seasoned thespians, young and old, have turned to a more modern form of scene-setter: the iPod. When MTV caught up with “Twilight” superstar Taylor Lautner, we wanted to know if he has a preferred method of actor preparation, and if he uses any specific musical stylings help him get into the head of his character, Jacob Black. “[I don’t use music] necessarily to get into character, but my music is so wild,” Lautner said. “One second I’ll be listening to country and then the next I’ll be listening to techno and then R&B,” he said. “It’s ridiculous. I am all over the place with my music.” And what is on his current playlist? “Right now is … I’m really, like, an iTunes guy — whatever is on iTunes I’ll give it a shot,” Lautner admitted. “My all-time favorite band is U2, so I’m always listening to U2 — that’s probably the safest answer, but I like to take risks.” Given the fact that two of his “Twilight” co-stars — Robert Pattinson and Jackson Rathbone — are musicians, giving a shout-out to one of their tunes would have also been safe. But speaking of risks, Lautner did reveal a penchant to play a little dance music by a certain Lady every now and again. “I’ve got some Gaga on my iPod,” he said. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Michael Jackson Guitarist Orianthi Recalls Learning Of His Death

‘Everyone was completely devastated,’ Orianthi tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Michael Jackson Photo: Getty Images One year ago Friday (June 25), Michael Jackson died at age 50, after suffering cardiac arrest in his Los Angeles home. At the time of his death, Jackson was hard at work on his much-discussed This Is It concert series — a planned run of 50 shows at London’s O2 arena — sometimes putting in 20-hour days at rehearsals , which were taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Jackson’s old-school work ethic amazed everyone associated with This Is It, from choreographers and lighting directors all the way down to the stagehands. And on the day he died, they were all making their way to Staples for yet another marathon rehearsal session — one that, sadly, would never happen. One of the people on her way to Staples was Australian guitarist Orianthi , who had been tapped by Jackson to appear with him onstage during the show (you can watch footage of the pair rehearsing here ). And, on the one-year anniversary of Jackson’s death, she recalled the day she heard the news that shook the world. “I was actually getting ready for rehearsal. I was getting ready to go there, and I found out. And everyone was completely devastated,” she told MTV News earlier this week. “And I wish he was still with us. It’s just really hard. Actually, this week I was talking to my band about it and how crazy it is that he’s still not with us. And we just had an incredible time working with him, everybody. So I’m going to call everyone that was part of This Is It on the day and just reminisce over the amazing memories that we have.” One year later, the magnitude of Jackson’s death is still rather difficult to fathom. And though he will forever be remembered as a titan in the worlds of music, fashion, dance and popular culture, those who got to know him closely — got to marvel at his professionalism, his dedication and his kindness — also will remember him for something else. “His spirit … he had such spirit,” Orianthi said. “When he walked in the room, he just had this great presence about him and encouraging, really sweet. [He is] definitely very missed.” MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don’t miss the one-hour special “Michael Jackson’s Influence on Music,” airing tonight at 6:30 p.m. on MTV.
