90 Day Fiance The Other Way: Meet Laura and Aladin!

90 Day Fiance: The Other Way is the newest  90 Day spinoff series, And TLC is helping to build the hype with sneak peek videos of the featured couples.  Fans have already met Evelin and Corey . Now, they can get to know another  The Other Way couple: Laura and Aladin. TLC just featured the couple in a new sneak peak trailer, and this one is a doozy, folks. The trailer first introduces us to Laura, a 51-year-old retiree from Toronto who now lives in Florida. Laura lives with her 21-year-old son Liam, and the two seem to have a very close relationship. At the very least, it's clear they love playing Bingo together.  Laura instantly comes off as warm and likeable, and she seems to love her life in Florida.  But we quickly find out that she's about to leave her whole life behind to travel half-way around the globe and get married! So far, so good. But then, the trailer introduces us to her fiance, and we had to take a moment because he is, well, not what we expected. Aladin is a personal fitness trainer who lives in Qatar. He started “chit-chatting” with Laura over a year ago on social media, much to Laura's surprise. “I was just like, 'Wow, he's gorgeous,” she recalls.  Well, she's not wrong. This is the kind of guy whose every selfie gets the 'eyes' emoji from thirsty followers. But we have to admit the two make a pretty unusual couple. What's going on here? “What is he looking at me for,” Laura wonders aloud. Of course, Laura seems delightful and totally deserving of Aladin's admiration! But, we see why she'd ask. At age 29, Aladin is 22 years younger than Laura — and only eight years older than her son! Yikes. That's a significant age gap, but if they want to be together, Aladin and Laura are both more than old enough to make an informed, responsible decision about it. Of course, “informed, responsible decision” is a very relative term on a show where people fly off to marry someone they've often never met in person. Longtime 90 Day Fiance fans may be hearing alarm bells for a different reason. Aladin is in Qatar but he is originally from Tunisia, just like the infamous 90 Day star Mohammed Jbali.  Jbali too was a younger man who romanced an older American woman — to Danielle Mullins' everlasting regret. But, just as not all Americans are like Danielle, not all Tunisians are like Mohammed. And just looking at Aladin is enough to see that he's a very different man. And as the trailer shows us, Laura and Aladin already have a close, and totally charming, relationship. We loved watching the satisfaction on Laura's face while Aladin shows off his abs at her command. “Are you going to be removing more clothes,” Laura asks him, definitely only half-kidding. “Come on,” Aladin laughs back at her. It's an adorable exchange that had us hoping the camera crew would take a hike and give these two a moment. It can be very difficult to maintain a relationship with someone you can only interact with over the internet.  They live so far apart that even scheduling times to chat could be tricky because of the different time zones.  But these two are certainly making the best of it.  The trailer shows off a collection of selfies the two lovebirds have exchanged over social media, all with cute photo filters. Laura explains that after a year or so of chatting, Aladin finally asked if she would like to come to Qatar and meet. We know she took him up on the offer and the two have met in person. But we'll have to tune into  90 Day Fiance: The Other Way  to see how it goes down. For the record, we hope it turns out just as sweet as this trailer. We'll be rooting for you Laura. For obvious reasons.

Katie Price: Maybe I’ll Hire a Prostitute for My Autistic 15-Year-Old!

In a talk show appearance, television personality and former model Katie Price suggested that she'd consider hiring a sex worker for her autistic son, who is currently only fifteen. There is so much to unpackage here. Because there's so much wrong , here. We have the video for you, below, with full context — but no amount of context could make this anything but controversial. But first, here's what's going on. Katie Price is a television personality these days, but she used to be one of those “top-heavy” models, and she'd model topless. Essentially, she made millions off of her megaboobs. She has three children. Her son, Harvey, is fifteen. Harvey is on the autistic spectrum. While there are plenty of autistic folks with basically zero issues in a neurotypical-dominated society, there are some people with autism who need daily assistance to go about their lives. Harvey, at least for now, needs a fair amount of accommodation, though part of that is because he was born blind. And Harvey also has Prader-Willi syndrome, which can have a few symptoms such as impaired brain-function — but the primary symptom is an insatiable appetite that can easily lead to massive weight gain. Katie Price appeared on a talk show, Loose Women , along with a woman who has an adult autistic son and has written a book about her experience as his mother. The woman's son also appeared on the show and, honestly, we thought that he did an ample job of speaking for himself and we'd rather have just heard from him. That woman shared a story about how she'd considered hiring a sex worker for her son when was in his early 20s. As she tells it, she even drove into what she calls a “red light district,” only to get cold feet. Her son ended up meeting a young woman on his own and dating her — he was just awkward at the time. (We get the feeling that his mother was panicking that her son would be alone forever, and honestly that whole anecdote is just a huge red flag about the mom) Katie Price jumps in with her own story, based on Harvey having entered puberty and something that Katie Price's husband (for now) had suggested: “Kieran said, ‘Shall we get him a prostitute when he turns 18?’ But I said, ‘But that’s my little Harvey and I don’t want him to do that!’ What do I do? Do I leave it? Or do I let him experience it?” You'll see that and the chatter in response in the video below. This is hardly the first time that Katie Price has made controversial statements on parenting , but still. But we need to unpack these issues. Okay, first of all, because this is the most important thing to address: It's pretty screwed up that these women seem very content to just talk about autistic folks like they're wild animals that sometimes end up in people's houses. People who have autism are people. They exist on a very wide and varied spectrum of abilities and experiences. Television and film tend to portray autistic people as either nonverbal robots “who might be dangerous” or as slightly shy white men who are really, really good at solving crimes. If you want a better glimpse at some positive and frankly realistic portrayals of an autistic adult, maybe look at Abed Nadir on Community . Eddie Redmayne's portrayal of Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was essentially just a male, magical version of Temple Grandin, a famous autistic woman who advocates for livestock welfare and has changed industry standards in the process. These examples might serve people better than listening to the horror stories of Mommy Bloggers. Most of the parents in that category are more interested in exploiting their family stories for profit than giving an honest representation of people on the autistic spectrum. It's no wonder that this episode proved to be so controversial, right? A lot of the controversy, however, wasn't centered upon the weird fetishization of “autism moms.” No, a lot of the Twitter backlash was about the idea of hiring a sex worker. Not because Harvey is disabled or still a minor or a real person who may or may not want to have sex in a few years, regardless of what his parents assume. But because there are still people, many of them well-meaning, who believe that sex work is inherently bad. That's really no surprise — just think of the ridiculous freakout over Teen Vogue 's anal sex guide . In this case, though, only some of the people who rail against sex work are just people who are generally tightly wound about sex. Some people who probably think of themselves as sex-positive act as though all sex work is the same thing as sex trafficking. Not even a little. It is absolutely true that sometimes women are kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery in an operation that resembles voluntary sex work. Except for the voluntary part. That does not make all sex work involuntary or abusive or anything else. Like, we know that Qatar has used slave labor in construction. That does not mean that all construction workers are slaves. Not all sex workers are desperate to get into a different line of work, either. Not all porn stars want to be actors and not all escorts dream of a white picket fence. People who rail against sex work are so often shouting over the voices of actual sex workers. So a lot of ire was misplaced, basically. Katie Price, to be fair, is far from the worst offender here. She only brought this up because the other mom had already shared her story. But unless it's something that Harvey actually says that he wants when he's an adult, she shouldn't even consider it. Hopefully the backlash, misguided as much of it might be, will make that clear.

90 Day Fiance Spoilers: What Will Season 5 Bring?

In just 17 days, viewers will be treated to a new season of 90 Day Fiance. The TLC series has been both successful and controversial ever since its premiere in early 2014, as it didn’t merely attempt to create long-term relationships under strange circumstances, such as The Bachelor . Instead, it brings in foreigners to the United States on a Visa and introduces them to American citizens. We’re basically talking about mail-order spouses here. These Visas expire after 90 days, meaning the country’s guests must make a marriage work or be sent back to the nation of their origin. It’s pretty cold and calculating and cynical and really just all around ridiculous. But, hey, TLC has aired four seasons to date and season number-five kicks off on June 25. What can viewers expect to take place on new summer episodes? First, it’s worth noting this scoop from The Futon Critic: On television over the next several weeks, fans will tune in to watch “90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?” But they will also have a chance to go behind the scenes of the show online (and on the TLC Now app) via a program titled “90 Day Fiance: What Now?” So there’s something to keep in mind. As for the content of the dual approaches to Season 5? 90 Day Fiance will be checking in on a handful of couples who did walk down the aisle and exchange vows. From Danielle and Mohamed … to Loren and Alexei … to Russ and Paola … to Jorge and Anfisa … to Chantel and Pedro, we’ll find out what happens when these twosomes are handed a dose of marital reality. Look for major cultural differences and clashes to become issues for the husbands and their foreign wives, along with stress from financial difficulties and disapproving family members as well. Mohamed, for instance, doesn’t want to stay in the States; he wants to defect to Qatar or Canada. Chantel will bring the drama with Pedro, while Jorge and Anfisa will deal with all the ways in which the latter is trying to milk her newfound fame by breaking into the modeling business. Also, according to one insider, “juicy tidbits about Jorge’s marijuana business” will come to light. Well… okay then! We may need to tune in after all this summer. According to TLC, the new digital series will center on what life has been like for several fan-favorite 90 Day Fiance couples after they made their romance official and legal. The couples returning for “What Now” will include Narkyia and Lowo; Melanie and Devar; Josh and Aleksandra; Alan and Kirlyam; and Matt and Alla. What do you think of the concept behind 90 Day Fiance? Have you been a fan for awhile? Will you be tuning in for Season 5? Or are you beyond stunned and disgusted that this show even exists?!? Ahmed Mohamed’s Father Files Civil Rights Lawsuit Against School Following “Clock Bomb” Arrest

The Father Of “Clock Bomber” Ahmed Mohamed Files Civil Rights Lawsuit Against School According to a report in the NYDailyNews , the “clock boy” Ahmed Mohamed and his family have filed a federal lawsuit (in addition to the $15 million suit previously filed) against the Irving Independent School District for violating the teen’s civil rights when he was arrested at school last year… The father of the Texas Muslim teen arrested after bringing his homemade clock to school last year filed a federal civil rights lawsuit Monday. The suit on behalf of 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed accuses the Irving Independent School District of “a clear pattern of discrimination based upon race as well as discrimination based upon religion.” The lawsuit also names Ahmed’s former high school principal and the city of Irving as defendants following his September 2015 arrest and three-day suspension. “I got a lot of hate. And I got a lot of support in the beginning but then again it’s the hate that sticks because some of it is so damaging. I get death threats. What did I ever do to someone to get death threats?” Ahmed said at a press conference, according to KTVT-TV. He and his family moved to Qatar following the arrest and subsequent outcry, but they came back to the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the summer. We can only imagine what type of hateful things these Duck Dynasty-esque rednecks are hurling at Admed and his family. The suit cites records of disciplinary actions that showed racial disparities in the district and feelings of isolation and alienation among black students. A recent profanity-laced voicemail left for an Irving Muslim civil rights organization also displayed “a long and ugly history of race struggles” in the district, according to the lawsuit. “Will we be faithful to our American principles of equality and freedom or will we let fear and hate prevail, the two biggest evils that will defeat our democracy?” the suit said. “History tells us that when we have stood tall and proud for equality and freedom, we have grown as a nation. When we have given in to fear and hate, we flounder.” If left to Donald Trump, not only would this case be thrown out, the Mohameds would probably be thrown out with it. We hope they win the money AND the federal lawsuit against the school. Image via Instagram

People Aint Isht: Couple Released On Bail After Starving 8-Year-Old Daughter To Death & Planning To Steal Her Organs

Couple Released On Bail After Starving Daughter To Death Cruel and senseless crimes against children committed at the hands of their parents seem to be on the rise….and these this worthless California couple just adds to the pile. via ABC News A California couple living in Qatar facing possible execution for allegedly starving their daughter to death was released on bail today after almost a year in jail. Matt and Grace Huang were released on bail, but the court imposed a travel ban that prevents them from returning to the U.S. The couple has been imprisoned since January after their 8-year-old adopted daughter Gloria died, they say, from unknown complications from a childhood eating disorder. But the Qatari authorities charged them with forced starvation and intent to murder. The police accuse the Huangs of trafficking Gloria and her brothers to harvest their organs. The Huangs, who are Asian-American, accuse the Qatari authorities of faulty evidence and cultural ignorance, failing to understand how or why they would have three children from Africa. In addition to Gloria, the Huangs have two adopted boys – one from Ghana, the other from Uganda – forming a bi-racial family rarely seen in oil-rich Qatar which is void of much diversity (except for Asian workers who go to work as laborers) and where adoptions are scarce. If the courts think these two are enough of a threat to society to possibly recommend the death penalty, why were they even eligible for bail???

Saudi Arabia Women Athletes to Compete in Olympics For First Time

Saudi Arabia will send female athletes to the London Olympics this summer, ending the ultra-conservative Muslim country’s record of not doing so. The decision, announced Thursday by the IOC, means every country competing in the London games will include women athletes for the first time in history. The two female Saudi Arabia Olympic competitors are judo athlete Wodjan Ali Seraj Abdulrahim Shahrkhani and 800-meter runner Sarah Attar. The duo, who were invited by the International Olympic Committee, were entered by the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee by the July 9 deadline. “This is very positive news and we will all be delighted to welcome these two athletes in London in a few weeks time,” IOC President Jacques Rogge said. “With Saudi Arabian female athletes now joining their fellow female competitors from Qatar and Brunei, it means that by London 2012 every national Olympic committee will have sent women to the Olympic Games,” he added. Saudi Arabia had been under increasing pressure from the IOC and human rights groups to include women athletes. The IOC has been in negotiations with the Saudis for months on securing the participation of women. Qatar and Brunei, two other countries that have never sent any female athletes to the Olympics, are also including women on their teams in 2012. About 10,500 athletes are expected to compete in London, representing more than 200 national Olympic committees. It should be great.
