Taylor Lautner On Jacob And Renesmee’s ‘Breaking Dawn’ May-December Relationship: ‘I Was Worried About It’

You think navigating a press junket after a personal controversy goes public is potentially awkward? Try braving throngs of journalists clamoring for an answer to The Twilight Saga ‘s curious “imprinting” storyline , as Taylor Lautner did today when the franchise-ending  Breaking Dawn Part II  press tour kicked off. For the record, both parties in the reportedly reunited Robsten supercouple acquitted themselves ably and congenially in back-to-back press conferences as they discussed their four-year journey with the vampire franchise. [ Mild spoilers follow, if you haven’t read the books .] But Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson aren’t the only Twilight kids who’ve matured in the interim as the worldwide phenomenon has turned them and their cast mates into global megastars. Twenty-year-old Lautner came off with charisma even as he broached the subject of his character’s eyebrow-raising onscreen soul mate attachment to a child in Breaking Dawn . “It’s a fine line, and I was worried about it,” Lautner admitted of Jacob Black’s supernatural, (platonic — for now) love at first sight connection to the half-human, half-vampire offspring of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. (By comparison, Edward’s a century older than Bella, so in the grand scheme of things it’s not that bad…) Played by 9-year-old Mackenzie Foy, Renesmee grows from infant to school-age girl in a superhuman span of time — and as in the books, Jacob is compelled by his Quileute legacy to instantly “imprint,” or attach, himself to her side in a manner that eventually will take on romantic undertones. Understandably he had concerns, so he went to the source for advice: Stephenie Meyer. “There was nobody better to ask about it than her,” Lautner said. “And she basically told me, ‘Stop overcomplicating it. Think here and now, that’s all you really have to focus on.’” “It’s simple — she said it’s a lifelong bond between two people and that’s it,” he continued. “At this point the girl’s like, what, ten years old? So it’s more of a protective thing, like a brother-sister. That’s really all it is. I couldn’t allow myself to think ahead and go beyond that, so that’s kind of the zone I had to stay in.” The weirdness of the Jacob-Renesmee bond is not lost on Jacob in the film, who encounters a furious Bella when she awakens from human death to find her best friend has imprinted on her newborn baby. But Lautner’s Jacob finds himself in a more than few awkward situations in Breaking Dawn . Another scene found Lautner stripping down in front of Billy Burke’s Charlie in one of the surprisingly comical moments sprinkled throughout the film. “It actually was pretty funny in person,” Lautner laughed. “I love Billy Burke to death and he’s one of the coolest people alive, so it was a little uncomfortable for me — it’s always uncomfortable when I have to take my shirt off or something because I’m always the only one doing it!” “The weather conditions we film in, and everybody’s bundled up in like seven layers and I’m the only one in jean shorts… that was a new one,” he said. “I think the pants came off in that one too. But it was a funny, funny scene. I was so nervous to film it because it was written so hilariously and I wanted it to come across that way and I hope it does, but it was a blast to shoot.” Stay tuned for more on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. II , which hits theaters November 16. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Three New ‘Eclipse’ Stills Officially Released By Summit!

Along with the announcement of a new short story being released in June by Stephenie Meyer ( click here to check out our post on the upcoming release of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner ), Summit Entertainment gave us three brand new stills from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ! The official synopsis of the movie was also released: In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life. The first photo looks like the campfire scene – where Bella hears about the Quileute legends. The second one – possibly Edward and Jacob discussing how to defeat the newborns? And the third looks like it could be from the battle scene. What are your thoughts on the photos? What scene do you think each is from? I really need to re-read Eclipse

MTV’s Bree Tanner Cheat-Sheet – Everything You Need To Know

MTV.com compiled a list of everything you’ll need to know about Bree Tanner – the young newborn vampire that Victoria created in Eclipse – due to Stephenie Meyer’s recent announcement of a novella she will release about Bree An “Eclipse” Exclusive: If you’ve only been watching the “Twilight” movies or read the first two books, don’t be shocked that you have no idea who Bree Tanner is. In fact, don’t be upset if you read “Eclipse” and still have no idea who she is. Tanner is a character introduced a startlingly short amount of time before she dies in “Eclipse” and could be considered (to everyone except Stephenie Meyer) to be a throwaway character. A Short Life: Tanner is only introduced 10 pages before she is killed off in Victoria’s war against the Cullens and the Quileute werewolf tribe. However, of all the newborn vampires discussed in “Eclipse,” Tanner was one of the few to be named and introduced to the readers. Unfortunately, it didn’t take very long after she was turned into a vampire for her to meet her end … again. Dramatic Death Scene: It turns out Tanner isn’t the best newborn vampire among them all, and she isn’t a big fan of killing innocents and drinking their blood. She tries to join forces with the Cullen clan and adapt to their “vegetarian vampire” lifestyle, but ends up being killed by Felix on the orders of Jane, a member of the Volturi guard (played by Dakota Fanning in the film), in the final battle. Newborn Vampires: A big part of the story in “Eclipse” surrounds the bad-girl vampire Victoria creating an army of newborn vampires in the Seattle area so she can wage war on Edward Cullen, who killed her beau James way back in “Twilight.” When a vampire is first created, it is at its strongest, so Victoria went around recklessly creating vampires so she could have an extremely powerful army behind her. Tanner was just one of the fatalities. Seattle: The trouble with the first-person perspective of “The Twilight Saga” is that the reader can’t read what is happening firsthand beyond what Bella Swan sees with her own eyes. Much like “Midnight Sun” gave (some) of the details behind what happened elsewhere in “Twilight,” “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” will show what happened in Seattle with Victoria during “Eclipse.” But since much of “Eclipse” is devoted to the characters wondering what exactly was going on in Seattle, seeing it through the eyes of a secondary character like Tanner is a smart companion piece to the book. Unseen First Life: Unfortunately for Tanner, the world will never know what happened to her before she became a vampire. She was introduced into “Eclipse” after she was a newborn and “The Short Second Life” will start off the same way. There is a chance of flashbacks telling about her life before becoming a vampire, but the way Meyer described the novella on her Web site made it seem as though Tanner was the narrator solely so the reader could see what went on in Seattle, not to learn her past. In The Movies: “Eclipse” director David Slade at least had more of a heads-up than fans and retailers did about “The Short Second Life,” and he cast 14-year-old Jodelle Ferland in the role. Slade and Ferland, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard (Victoria) and Xavier Samuel (Riley), were given advance copies of the book to read so they could have a complete knowledge of what went on in Seattle for the film. {via MTV }
