By Kara Warner, with reporting by Tim Kash Vanessa Hudgens Photo: MTV News Vanessa Hudgens’ upcoming film roles are definite departures from her squeaky-clean work in “High School Musical” — particularly in the upcoming action-thriller “Sucker Punch,” directed by “300” helmer Zack Snyder. When MTV News recently caught up with the young star, she revealed just how different the role really is. Hint: She’s traded singing for slinging bullets. Although the film will present at Comic-Con this weekend, Hudgens said it is far from completion. “It’s probably, definitely not done,” she said. “There’s so much CGI in it, it’s ridiculous.” Regarding the film joining in on the popular 3-D trend, Hudgens was enthusiastic about “Sucker Punch” going that route. “It would be so badass,” she said. “It’s already really badass, but having it in 3-D … having my tomahawk fly towards your face, [it would be] just too cool, you know?” Speaking of badass, Hudgens continued to cite the gun-slinging as her favorite aspect of filming. “Shooting a .50-cal [machine gun], there’s nothing like it,” she said with a smile. Hudgens added that she and her female castmates (including Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish and Emily Browning) found a new sense of empowerment with their gun-wielding skills. “I think all of us girls loved it so much. We’re all strong individuals, and when you give us a gun … you kind of unleash something.” Hudgens is also excited for fans to see a sneak peek of footage, which will premiere at Comic-Con in San Diego. “I’m going for the first time, and I’m so excited!” she exclaimed. “I want to go dress up in a mask or paint my face so I can walk around in the crowd.” Most of all, Hudgens can’t wait to see the first clip from the film, which is slated to premiere Saturday. “I’m really excited [for fans to see it]. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Tim Kash Hayden Panettiere Photo: MTV News With filming of the fourth chapter in the “Scream” franchise under way in Michigan, fans are hard-pressed to find out new details about the fourth film’s notoriously mysterious plotline. However, when MTV News recently caught up with Hayden Panettiere, she said she’s confident the filmmakers are doing the previous movies justice and that the process so far has been a blast. “I think it’s just perfect timing, the amount of time that has passed since the last one came out,” the former “Heroes” star told MTV News. “It’s a perfect setup, with all of these films … the [fictional] ‘Stab’ [movies] and all the things like that. I think with all of the ‘Scream’ [films], the idea is to throw the audience for a loop every time.” Panettiere acknowledged that for savvy audiences, the surprise factor is an even bigger challenge this time around. “For an audience that is so well-versed in ‘Scream’ [films] and in what happens and who becomes the killer, blah, blah, blah, it’s trickier to throw them a curveball,” she said. “I think they’ve done a really cool job with the script. We’ve had a blast on it.” Panettiere also heaped praise on her castmates and director Wes Craven. “Wes Craven is, he not only is the nicest human being, but he’s a brilliant director. And it’s all the original cast as well: Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox and David Arquette. We’ve got an incredible new cast that’s come in, and we have a pretty good team.” The spunky actress said she couldn’t reveal too much about her character Kirby, only that she’s “edgy, sassy and smart. She’s a very strong character.” Other key players in the star-studded cast include Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Adam Brody, Anthony Anderson and Marley Shelton. “Scream 4” is scheduled to open April 15, 2011. The rumor mill was rife with gossip regarding the actress’s diva-like demands on set, months before her departure (Heigl’s last appearance as Izzy was January 21). But now that Heigl has officially left the program to focus on being a mom to her adopted daughter, she has gone to great lengths to right any wrongs (i.e. the recent Entertainment Weekly cover story titled “I’m Sorry”). MTV News recently caught up with the actress (while chatting about her upcoming romantic comedy “Killers”) and discovered that the 31-year-old has nothing but warm feelings for her onetime castmates. And because Heigl had not yet seen the complicated medical drama’s season finale, our own Josh Horowitz attempted — via a “creative interpretation” courtesy of Wikipedia — to summarize the detailed plot and bring the actress up to speed so she could comment. Midway through Josh’s delivery of the details, Heigl interrupted when he mentioned that a main character was pregnant. “I’m sorry, wait,” Heigl said and held up a hand to stop the recap for a moment. “A pregnant who? Meredith is pregnant?” she said, totally surprised. “You’ve made me feel horrible [for not watching yet]. “I’m going to have to watch this now. I have to see [Alex] call for [Izzy] and her never come. … I really miss that relationship,” Heigl said of her former onscreen romance with Alex (played by Justin Chambers). “Justin Chambers is one of the most amazing men and certainly a spectacular actor. I feel oddly attached to him and the character and my character being together. Port and photographer ‘kind of just hit it off,’ she tells MTV News of season-three romance. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Whitney Port In the trailer for the new season of “The City,” which is set to kick off Tuesday (April 27), Whitney Port seems to have found herself a new guy. When MTV News recently caught up with Whitney, we asked her to dish on her potential season-three love interest. It turns out the pair met at a photo shoot for the “City” star’s clothing line. While Port wouldn’t say how serious the relationship gets, it was a good time, she said. “Jonathan was the photographer for the shoot, and he’s actually a war photographer,” she told MTV News. “So this was very different for him to be shooting little dresses. But we kind of just hit it off. … He asked if I wanted to get a drink, and we got a drink, and he took me on a motorcycle ride.” Whitney’s penchant for motorcycle rides will be familiar to fans who watched her romance with then-BF Jay. But they’ll have to tune in, Port said, to see if the new couple manage to take their relationship to the next level. “We had a good time,” she admitted. “We’ve enjoyed hanging out, and I guess we’ll just have to see how it plays out.” After having some past bad relationships play out onscreen, Port said she was feeling reluctant to date on TV.
