Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel Sashays Fashion, Parties & Mick

Before there was Anna Wintour, The Devil Wears Prada – and even ahead of the days when they put the ‘ super ‘ before the ‘ model ‘ – Diana Vreeland reigned as top fashion maven in the U.S. Naturally, the woman who “discovered” Lauren Bacall, launched Twiggy, advised Jackie O., partied with Mick Jagger and once said, “”The bikini is the most important thing since the atom bomb,” was ripe for a documentary. Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel heads to theaters later next month, but distributor Samuel Goldwyn gives a snapshot of Vreeland in the feature’s new trailer below. “You can see and feel the approaching revolution in clothes,” Diana Vreeland says in the trailer. Footage follows with praise and flashy images from high-style celebs and designers she influenced. The trailer also sneaks great scenes of her taking in New York night-life with a great shot of her taking a puff from a ciggy while chatting up Andy Warhol. “I wanted to get where the action was,” she said with a devilish smile. Journalist Bob Colacello recalls a great Vreeland quote: “You’re not supposed to give people what they want, you’re supposed to give them what they don’t know that they want yet.” The trailer also includes snappy tidbits from fashion designers Calvin Klein, Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenberg and a great little outburst from Manolo Blahnik. Synopsis: Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel is an intimate portrait and a vibrant celebration of one of the most influential women of the 20th century, an enduring icon whose influence changed the face of fashion, beauty, art, publishing and culture forever.  During her fifty year reign as the “Empress of Fashion,” she launched Twiggy, advised Jackie O and coined some of fashion’s most eloquent proverbs such as “the bikini is the biggest thing since the atom bomb.” She was the fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar where she worked for 25 years before becoming editor in chief of Vogue followed by a remarkable stint at the Met’s Costume Institute where she helped popularize its historical collections. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, is directed by Lisa Immordino Vreeland. Watch the trailer on YouTube .

The show, airing on ABC, is set to take place on February 26 with host Billy Crystal . Lawrence was up for Best Actress at the 2011 show for her star-making turn in “Winter’s Bone.” While she lost to “Black Swan” star Natalie Portman , she made headlines thanks to her body-hugging red dress. She’s next set to star in “The Hunger Games,” set for release on March 23. The same day her Oscars gig was announced, Lionsgate announced plans for pre-sale tickets for the highly anticipated flick , which also stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth . For those hungry to get their hands on tickets early, advanced sales kick off on February 22. When Lawrence was first cast in the film, which is based on the beloved novels by Suzanne Collins, fans had some reservations about whether she could fully embody the books’ heroine, Katniss Everdeen. “I wasn’t aware that everybody was so upset until I after I got my hair dyed, and people were like, ‘Oh my gosh, blond hair can turn brown. Wow. It’s a miracle,’ ” Lawrence told MTV News in May of last year. Justin Bieber’s ‘Karate Kid’ Song Is Eligible For An Oscar

‘Never Say Never’ joins tunes by Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Aguilera in the running for Original Song category. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images Earlier this year, Justin Bieber set tweenage hearts aflutter when he teamed with Jaden Smith to record “Never Say Never,” the theme to Smith’s “Karate Kid” reboot. And now, he’s hoping to do the same for Oscar voters. Earlier this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — the governing body of the Academy Awards — released its list of the 41 songs eligible for the Original Song category at the 83rd annual awards, and Bieber made the cut. “Never Say Never” is in the running against the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Coming Home” and “Me and Tennessee” (both from her upcoming “Country Strong” film) and a trio of songs from Christina Aguilera’s “Burlesque.” Though Bieber made the eligibility list, the tune’s nomination is no surefire bet: Movie clips featuring each song will be screened for voting members of the Academy’s Music Branch on January 6, and it will be up to them to select the field of nominees. Nominations will be announced on January 25 at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. According to the Academy, in order for a work to be deemed eligible for the Original Song category, it must “consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film,” and “a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film, or as the first music cue in the end credits.” Bieber and Smith’s song is played over the end credits of “The Karate Kid.” The 83rd Academy Awards will be broadcast live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 27.
