It’s not sad that they’re divorcing — what’s sad is the horrifying accusations that have come out since their split. Mel B has a long court battle ahead of her. But it looks like the Spice Girl and TV personality is striking back, and she’s armed with evidence that supports her claims — including depositions. Do you guys remember back in December of 2014? Mel B responded to speculation by declaring that her husband, Stephen Belafonte would never hurt her . Unfortunately, as we are all aware by now, someone denying that they’re a victim of domestic violence … doesn’t mean anything. Victims will generally say anything to protect their abusers. Until they reach a breaking point, that is. This year, Mel B has split from husband Stephen Belafonte and was granted an order of protection after accusing Belafonte of punching and choking her. That is horrifying to hear. There have also been more salacious stories about their marriage, including claims that Mel B and Belafonte’s nanny was Belafonte’s lover. Allegedly, Stephen Belafonte wanted to control Mel B’s money but also retain a young lover. Belafonte had also allegedly blackmailed Mel B with recordings of their sex life. Mel B’s nanny, Lorraine Gilles, sued for defamation , claiming that she had been Mel B’s consensual lover and that she had never had one-on-one sex with Stephen Belafonte. Based upon new papers that Mel B’s team has filed, it sounds like Gilles is walking back some of those claims. TMZ got a hold of some court documents that allege that Stephen Belafonte arranged a phony marriage for Lorraine Gilles , one that allowed him to keep Lorraine nearby. And that he used Mel B’s money to do it. The documents include portions of Lorraine Gilles’ deposition, in which she admits to having sex alone with Stephen Belafonte — ten to fifteen times. Considering how many years she was in their lives, that sounds like a really low number, but it’s progress from her claim that she only had sex with him during threesomes. Gilles also admits to having had sex with Belafonte around the time that she got an abortion, but claims that it wasn’t his. (We’d ask how she, or anyone, could know for sure, as we can’t imagine that any genetic testing was involved — but hey, we’re no experts) Now, Lorraine Gilles married Michael Bleu — which Mel B alleges was a sham. Her team included a deposition from Bleu himself, in which he admits to having purchased the engagement ring for $30 on eBay. Ah, romance . Gilles also admits that the sex tapes — the ones that Mel B says Belafonte used to blackmail her — definitely exist and that she watched them as recently as July of 2016. Earlier this week, we learned that Scott Disick was recently hospitalized and placed on 5150 psychiatric hold after exhibiting behavior that led authorities to believe he may be a danger to himself or others. Sadly, it wasn’t terribly shocking news, considering Disick has reportedly spent the past several months drinking heavily, abusing drugs, and generally getting caught up in a frightening downward spiral. What is surprising is the fact that just weeks after being released from the hospital, Disick is still drinking and partying, despite the fact that he won’t be permitted to see his kids until he sobers up. And what might be even more shocking than that is the fact that Kim Kardashian has apparently been spending time with Kourtney’s troubled ex. To be clear, no one is implying that there’s anything romantic going on between Kim and Scott. We’re pretty sure that would never happen, but on the other hand, it would probably translate to huge ratings, and you can never overestimate the power of a suggestion from Kris Jenner. Anyway, the fact that Kim met up with Scott in New York last night is unusual for two reasons: 1. We had no idea that Kim is now the Mother of Dragons. She looks like she has dinner reservations at 8 and needs to ride Drogon into battle at 10. 2. Kourtney isn’t even on speaking terms with Scott, but Kim is meeting him for dinner? That’s weird even for a family with a long history of overstepping boundaries with one another’s significant others. Of course, it’s times like this that it’s important to remember the Kardashians are the custodians of a lucrative media empire first, and a family second. So it stands to reason that Kim is hanging out with Scott not to offer her support, but to shoot a dramatic scene for the upcoming season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “Kris is absolutlely going to use this for next season,” a source tells Radar Online. “Kris pretty much owns him. Without the show and the drama, Scott would not be able to live like such a baller.” We get the point of that statement, but we’d probably replace the term “baller” with “emotionally stunted addict on a suicide bender that’s unfortunately being enabled by his pseudo-in-laws.” We suppose that would’ve made for a more awkward and depressing sentence. Activist and Divergent star Shailene Woodley was arrested while protesting the Dakota Pipeline ? We all remember the Dakota Pipeline protests. There was national outcry over threatening the water table of Native Americans — especially after everything that the US government has done (and continues to do) to the Native American population. There were also broader environmental concerns, as oil pipelines are notorious for leaking. Protesters were numerous and passionate, and came from people of different ages and backgrounds, from military veterans to optimistic young people to the Native Americans directly threatened by pipeline’s construction. Unlike the passive responses of police to torch-bearing Nazi protesters in Charlottesville that included a weekend of violence against racial minorities and a vehicular terrorist attack against counter-protesters, both caught on video, the police responded to the pipeline protesters with a show of force and violence. Protesters were sprayed with firehoses in freezing temperatures. Rubber bullets, which can injure and even kill, were fired into the crowd. In the end, of course, President Obama — who had likely postponed any decision in order to avoid making it an election issue, back when there was still hope in the world — fixed it. Temporarily. Doing his best impression of President John Adams’ infamous Midnight Justices , President Obama effectively brought progress to a halt on the Dakota Access Pipeline at the 11th hour. That didn’t change the way that peaceful protesters had suffered during the ordeal. And it changed nothing for Shailene Woodley, who is now sharing exactly what the experience of being arrested was like. Shailene is bravely opening up, now, about her ordeal being arrested. In an interview with Marie Claire UK , Shailene Woodley describes her traumatic experience at Morton County Jail. “I was strip-searched. Like get naked, turn over, spread your butt cheeks, bend over.” She was a peaceful protester who should not have been arrested (we’ll get to that in a moment), so this should not have happened. “They were looking for drugs in my a–.” Awful. We don’t care if it’s standard procedure. It’s awful. “When you’re in a jail cell and they shut that door, you realize no one can save you.” There are so many good police officers in the world, and many people look at police as there to help by default. (I know that I do) But it is haunting to be aware that there are police individuals and even entire groups who are willing and eager to abuse their power. “If there’s a fire and they decide not to open the door, you’ll die. You are a caged animal.” Terrifying. Shailene describes how she turned off her phone for three months due to her PTSD symptoms. Most of us are unwilling to go without our phones for three minutes (and with good reason), so you know how deeply she was impacted by her ordeal. “There was so much trauma.” Clearly. “Mine was like, ‘What do I do now?’ Kind of like a little bit of depression.” Very understandable. Different people cope in different ways. As we said, Shailene should never have been arrested in the first place. At the time, she spoke out about how heavily armed officers were waiting to arrest her as she returned to where she was staying.
