Check Out the First Posters For Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Despite its Barry Bonds-friendly title , Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows has nothing in common with the controversial former slugger. Judging from the Guy Ritchie-directed first film, it might not have much in common with Arthur Conan Doyle either, but thanks to the charms of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, that won’t matter too much. The first posters for the December sequel have arrived with Downey and Law front and center — and Jared Harris and Noomi Rapace mysteriously lurking in the background. ‘Prometheus’ Star Noomi Rapace Talks Character Details, ‘Alien’ Connection

Rapace says her character is ‘very much her own,’ despite sharing similarities to Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Noomi Rapace Photo: Mike Marsland/ WireImage Despite spin that “Prometheus,” Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi flick that returns the director to his “Alien” roots, is not a prequel to the franchise he helped launch in 1979, some of the stars of the new film apparently beg to differ. Actor Michael Fassbender told us last month that the new movie shares “a definite connecting vein” with the previous films. And now “Prometheus” co-star Noomi Rapace has seconded that assessment. When MTV News recently asked the Swedish actress about the definitive “Alien” connection, she answered, simply, “Yeah, yeah.” Yet Rapace emphasized that her character, a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw, is not some knock off of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley — the take-no-crap hero of the original “Alien” movies. “She’s definitely her own,” Rapace said of Shaw. “She’s a scientist and she’s very bright and she’s a believer. They have some similarities, but she’s very much her own. I don’t think people will compare [her] so much to Ripley when they see her. Ripley was a hero for me.” MTV News spoke with Rapace in January on the set of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” a film that will mark a sort of Hollywood coming-out party for the star of the Swedish-language “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” films. After finishing up work on “Sherlock,” Rapace was anticipating beginning “Prometheus” in March for a shoot that could run into the early fall, ahead of a March 9, 2012, theatrical release. Before then, however, she and Scott have work to do in simply developing the character of Shaw. “I have many ideas and he has many ideas, and now we try to find her,” the actress told us. “I will step into her shoes in March and be here for six months, so it’s quite a long shoot.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Prometheus.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Robert Downey Jr. Talks Jon Favreau’s Departure From ‘Iron Man 3’

Downey says shooting the next ‘Iron Man’ installment without the director will be ‘weird.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Downey Jr. Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images After director Jon Favreau departed the “Iron Man” franchise but before Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) became the front-runner to helm the third installment of the superhero-movie series, MTV News sat down with Robert Downey Jr. and asked the actor how it would feel to play Tony Stark without Favreau behind the camera. “It is weird. I think there’s always a closure to everything,” he said, adding, “This will all come to an end one day, and I think the thing is to just really enjoy it while you have it.” No bad blood exists between the two men and, as Downey told us, he remains friendly with Favreau and is looking forward to his next directorial effort. “He’s up to great stuff with ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ coming up,” the actor said. “I just spoke with him a few weeks ago and we were quite friendly.” Before Downey begins “Iron Man 3,” which isn’t due in theaters until May 2013, he’ll be joining the highly anticipated superhero all-star flick, “The Avengers.” The picture will bring Downey’s metal-suited Stark together with the likes of Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. “The Avengers” will begin filming later this year, after Downey finishes work on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” which he was shooting when we caught up with him in January. Ever the jokester, Downey said he won’t have to do much preparation to make “Avengers” a winner. “You grow a moustache and maybe do something with the hair. That’s how easy it is,” he laughed. “It’s going to be great, once I tell them what to do.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Holmes Meets His Match: Stephen Fry Cast As Mycroft Holmes In Sherlock Sequel

As the eldest of four, I can assure you with no trepidation that older brothers are, to a man, not only inevitably smarter than their siblings but also completely insufferable as they remind their siblings of their inherent inferiority to the first born boy. Which is why casting Stephen Fry as Sherlock Holmes’ older brother Mycroft is such a stellar decision.

‘Percy Jackson’ Star Logan Lerman Felt ‘Really Stupid’ During Best Fight-Nominated Scene

‘You’ve got to put your mind outside of the room and embarrass yourself a little bit,’ Lerman says. By Eric Ditzian Logan Lerman Photo: MTV News Best Fight might be the most deceptive of all the MTV Movie Awards’ categories. What fans see up on the screen — those weapon-wielding brawls, knees to the groin and bloody-gash-opening body blows — certainly looks badass, what goes into creating them on set is quite often the opposite. And that, perhaps, is what make a cinematic fight truly great: you cringe at every punch, feel your stomach turn as the blood flows, you simply believe it, despite knowing it’s all make believe. It’s in this context that we approach this year’s Best Fight nominees , in particular Logan Lerman and Jake Abel’s throwdown in “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” “It was awkward,” Lerman laughed during an interview with MTV News. “I felt really stupid doing it. You’ve got to put your mind outside of the room and embarrass yourself a little bit and feel comfortable to be in the moment.” Lerman plays a dyslexic high school kid who discovers he’s actually the son of Poseidon and is pulled into a world-saving mission in which he battles snake-haired villains, nefarious demigods and a few terrifying beasts. The climatic scene — the one for which he’s nominated — sees him facing off against Abel on the rooftops, and in the skies, of New York City. They fly, they clash, they crash, they fly some more, until Lerman uses his powers to manipulate water and lay down some serious hurt. “That was about a month of filming just to do that one sequence,” Lerman explained. “We learned so much. We had to learn how to fly, be in wires and make it look good. Go down rooftops while having to swing at invisible lightning bolts being shot at you. It was a pretty crazy experience and I was completely blown away when I saw it onscreen. I’m so glad it got nominated — and pray that it wins!” His competition is stiff, and he’s most worried about Beyonc
