Mom Beats Daughter For Sharing Racy Photos, Posts Video on Facebook

When a 12-year-old girl posted racy photos of herself on Facebook, her mom was upset. So she beat her HARD and posted a video of THAT on Facebook: Mom BEATS Daughter This was not your run-of-the-mill beating, either. Helen Bartlett whipped her offspring with a strap for several minutes, causing the video to go viral and spark a heated debate over corporal punishment. Some viewers support the mom’s actions, while others are appalled, for obvious reasons – and this isn’t even the full-length video she put online. You can see the uncensored version Barlett shared – and has no regrets about. She says she is “prepared to go to jail” to set her “problem child” straight. She says she beat her daughter for posting underwear photos and sexting, and did it to keep her off the streets and stop her from getting pregnant. Noble goals, to be sure … but seriously? Perhaps most amazingly, a few days after this went up, the 12-year-old and her older sister put up their own video, in which they defended their mom. They said she was a good mother who just wanted to protect them, reassuring viewers that her mom loves her and she has no intention of killing herself. She hasn’t, however, been back to school. Since the video of the beating went viral last week, her mother says she fears being made fun of there and getting bullied … how’s that for irony? In her video, the 12-year-old said, “I am very sorry for bringing shame on you and the family. I know you love me dearly. And I love you dearly, too.” You be the judge … right or wrong?!   Right! Sometimes, very tough love is what kids need! Wrong? This is way, WAY over the line! View Poll »

Taylor Swift Wants To Thank Fans ‘Personally’ On Speak Now Tour

‘I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News It’s a big week for Taylor Swift . Not only did she premiere her “Story of Us” video Tuesday on MTV, but she also kicks off her Speak Now Tour on Friday in Omaha, Nebraska. When MTV News’ Sway sat down with the country/pop superstar following her video premiere, she let fans in on what to expect from the stadium show. “We get to have such groovy, cool stuff happening,” she said. “I’ve never had pyro before. I’ve never had aerialists before. It’s got this grand staircase. The stage in itself looks like an old-world theater. I can’t believe we get to play stadiums. I’m so excited about this tour. I want to live on that stage. I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better.” Swift looks at this tour as the ultimate “thank you” letter to her fans for the success Speak Now has had. “That’s why I’m so blown away. That’s why I can’t wait to go out on tour and thank them personally,” she said. Before the official tour kickoff, Swift gave some lucky fans a taste of the show during a charity event last Saturday in Nashville. She opened up her final Speak Now dress rehearsal to fans and gave the proceeds to tornado victims. “It was one of the coolest things. Honestly, we thought our first show was going to be a week later, [but] watching the news and seeing the damage, it was just really emotional for me and a lot of the dancers and crew,” she recalled. “So I felt like, if there was any way I could help out, why not sell tickets to that? And so it turned out it was something we could do. Putting on, pretty much, our first show and having it go so well [and making] over $750,000, it was so exciting.” Will you check out Taylor’s upcoming tour? Let us know in the comments! Swizz Beatz Promises ‘Art Piece’ Video For Bono, Kanye West Collabo

Swizz says Kanye originally recorded three verses for ‘Skyscrapers’ track, leaving no room for his own contribution to the song. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum Swizz Beatz Photo: MTV News Swizz Beatz has friends in high places. For his upcoming Haute Living album, the multiplatinum producer reached out to U2’s Bono and Kanye West to lend their touch to a track called “Skyscrapers.” The thought of the three stars on a single track is enough to excite any music fan, but Swizz told MTV News how the song almost became a Kanye West solo affair. Swizz played the track for ‘Ye, whom he considers a brother, and got verbal confirmation from the Louis Vuitton Don that he would appear on the song. But after Kanye laid down his vocals and sent the track back, Swizz found that Yeezy had completed the entire song himself. “He gives me the track back, done, three verses, the chorus there and a bridge. So I’m like, there ain’t no room for me on that thing!” Swizz says laughing. “I’m like, ‘Not on this one, baby.’ So I got two extra verses in the stash.” As of now, there is no telling where those extra Kanye vocals will end up, but fans can expect to hear “Skyscrapers” and see a video for the track soon — even if the three featured artists don’t appear in the clip. Judging by Swizzy’s description of both the track and the video, fans should get ready for a thought-provoking experience. “I felt like there was a lot of things going on in the world that was bigger than all of us. So as of right now, we’re not in the video,” Swizz says of the song’s visuals, which he has already begun working on. “It’s like an art piece. It’s like a documentary of the world as we don’t know it, but kind of know it. You know these things are going on in the world, but you don’t really know to what degree they’re going on in the world. So I took time out to piece up a couple of visuals that represent that — moving visuals. Right now, me, Bono, Kanye, we’re trying to figure out what’s the right way to have that message.” Swizz warns that since the video is still in development, things can change between now and the release. Are you looking forward to hearing Swizz’s collaboration with Bono and Kanye? Let us know in the comments.

M.I.A. Calls Reaction To ‘Born Free’ Video ‘Interesting’

People react more to ‘tomato ketchup and fake blood’ than to clips of real violence, M.I.A. points out. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Akshay Bhansali M.I.A. Photo: MTV News In the days following its release in April, practically everyone weighed in on M.I.A.’s “Born Free” video , calling it everything from “unflinchingly, unapologetically real” to “exploitive and hollow.” It was polarizing, to be sure, but that was sort of the point: “Born Free” was clearly designed to elicit a response. But through it all, M.I.A. herself kept quiet about the video. Until Monday, when MTV News sat down with her to talk about a host of topics, including her new album, ///Y/ (due July 13), and the maelstrom of controversy created by “Born Free.” To hear her tell it, the reaction to the video wasn’t as much hurtful as it was fascinating. “It was just interesting at the time, for me, to see how the Internet works. Because I tweeted [a video purportedly showing the execution of Tamil separatists in Sri Lanka] a couple months before, and nobody really gave a sh–,” M.I.A. said. “And when there’s tomato ketchup and fake blood, people are like, ‘Oh my God, this is shocking!’ And it’s like, ‘It’s ketchup!’ [So] I think it’s interesting how we react to fiction and how we react to realism on the Internet.” Though her critics may have slammed the “Born Free” video, M.I.A. said that in the two months since it was released, the clip has only become more important. In fact, with its scenes of violence against ethnic minorities (in the video’s case, redheads) and its dark, paranoid tone, one might argue that it’s downright prescient. “Thinking about ‘Born Free,’ what, a month on, is interesting because, last week, I guess in [Texas,] they shot the Mexican kid,” she said, referring to the 15-year-old shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent earlier this month. “Or, think about the boat that went into [Gaza] with all the activists. … Since the video came out, there’s been events. “Or even yesterday, the story about the president being able to shut the Internet down with one button, the ‘kill switch,’ or whatever, which is all really interesting,” she added, talking about a bill being proposed that would allow the U.S. government greater control in the face of a major cyber-attack. (Bill co-sponsor Sen. Joseph Lieberman has said the term “kill switch” is an exaggeration.) “This is not some weird, crazy conspiracy theory, this is mainstream media,” M.I.A. argued. “I wish I was talking about way more underground theories, but [I’m] not, this is just me digesting what I see in the mainstream.” Has a video or song ever opened your eyes about real-world events?
