Quavo Adds Pitcher To Resume After Throwing Out 1st Pitch At Braves Game

Source: Todd Kirkland / Getty One-third of the hit-making group Migos , Quavo , checked another major milestone off of his bucket list after being tapped to throw out the game-opening pitch for his hometown team. According to sports news, Quavo threw out the first ceremonial pitch before game two of the National League Division Series matchup between the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals on Friday (Oct. 4). The special occasion featured the “Pure Water” artist donning a custom made Braves jersey that featured him rocking the number 91, for his birth year, and bolstered his nickname “Huncho” on the back. Before the start of the game, Fox Sports tweeted out a video of Quavo practicing his perfect pitch behind an old building, landing a near-perfect strike to the catcher. According to Law.com , Justice O. Peter Sherwood knocked out key claims in a lawsuit by Rocawear co-founder Norton Cher’s YRN LLC, which sued the Georgia-based trio and Migos LLC for breach of contract in May 2018. According to the complaint, the firm acquired the trademarks to “Y.R.N.” and “Yung Rich Nation” in March 2015, with the goal of marketing clothing and accessories associated with Migo’s then-forthcoming single and album by the same names. The suit alleged that the performers, Quavious Marshall, Kiari Cephus and Kirshnik Ball, and managers Jerel Nance and Pierre Thomas had agreed not to compete with the company by marketing apparel with the Migos name. It was an “incontrovertible fact,” Judge Sherwood said, noting that the company never had any right to the Migos name, and by the time Migos had paired up with Bravado, any need for the contract’s restrictions was gone. “There simply was no market left to cannibalize.” Sherwood wrote in an 11-page opinion dated Sept. 12. “The market for apparel bearing the name of a faded Migos song or album was gone and the restrictive covenants in [the contract] no longer made commercial success.” The ruling was handed down in September, although it was just announced this week.

Flexing Essentials: Offset Breaks Down His Must-Have Essentials & Reveals His Daily Shopping Budget [Video]

Source: Hot 97 / Hot 97 Offset Breaks Down His Must-Have Essentials & His Daily Shopping Budget Offset –who you probably recognize from Atlanta’s favorite trio The Migos–has been known to spend a good amount of bread on various luxury items, such as jewelry and sneakers, since coming into the hip-hop game. He’s also known around the ATL for his real estate and condo investments, some of which he’s working on alongside his wife and fellow rap star Cardi B . Just last month, we reported that the lavish rapper was hit with a tax lien from the state of Georgia , which he has yet to respond to publically. He also recently dropped a bag to acquire stake in the gaming organization “Faze Clan,” which is the number one leading brand throughout the insanely huge gaming industry. We say all that to say; this guy knows how to drop a serious bag on anything and everything, so it’s not surprising that he has an impressive collection of material goods. Just last week Offset was in New York City and decided to stop by the Hypebeast offices to break down some of his favorite recent purchases. Throughout the video, the rapper goes into detail flexing a few of his favorite things, including his pair of Nike Air MAGs (which are currently worth about $50,000 in the resell market), some UNC Jordan 4s, Oregon Jordan 13s, Stussy Nike SBs, and more. On the more luxurious scale, Offset brought with him some of his most-prized jewelry, such as rings and chains. With all that on him, storage is a must, and the Georgia native makes himself clear when he says that traveling wouldn’t be complete if he didn’t bring his Louis Vuitton pouch painted with a caricature of his wife Cardi B. Check out the video for yourself down below so you can watch Offset break down some of his favorite purchases and also discuss his daily budget when he’s out shopping:

L.A Sparks General Manager Penny Toler Fired For Using N-Word…And She’s Black

More here:

Source: Leon Bennett / Getty When black people use the N-Word, it can be interpreted in different ways, but not as offensive. We’ve seen white people lose their jobs over using it because they use it in a racist manner. But recently L.A Sparks General Manager Penny Toler , who is a black woman, was fired from her position over using the N-word during a rant after a Sparks loss. “It’s unfortunate I used that word,” Toler told ESPN after the Sparks lost to the Connecticut Sun last month during a playoff game. “I shouldn’t. Nobody should but you know, like I said, I’m not here to defend word by word by word what I said. I know some of the words that I’m being accused of are embellished.” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). Toler said the way she used the word was taken out of context. “By no means did I call my players the N-word,” Toler said when speaking to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne after she was let go. “I’m not saying that I couldn’t have used it in a context. But it wasn’t directed at any of my players.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Close Thank you for subscribing! Please be sure to open and click your first newsletter so we can confirm your subscription. Email Submit Toler spent 20 seasons with the Sparks, seeing them through 18 playoff appearances and three championship titles. She also played from the Sparks from 1997 to 1999. Toler also made WNBA history when she made the league’s first basket. “Toler was relieved of her duties and will no longer be with the organization, effective immediately,” the Sparks said in a statement. “A national search will begin immediately to identify the next general manager of the Sparks. Managing Partner and Governor Eric Holoman will assume the duties in the interim.” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said “that type of language reportedly used has no place in our league.” “The WNBA takes pride in being one of the most diverse leagues in professional sports that fosters an inclusive and respectful environment. We thank Penny for her contributions to the WNBA through her service to the Sparks organization and as a player over two decades.” Toler had been the General Manager since 1999. SMH: The University Of Kansas Issues An Apology Following Snoop Dogg’s Risqué Stripper-Filled Performance

Source: MediaNews Group/Torrance Daily Breeze via Getty Images / Getty Snoop Dogg’s Performance At The University Of Kansas Didn’t Go Over Well A performance from the one-and-only Snoop Dogg brought some controversy to the University of Kansas . The college ended up issuing an apology on Friday night after the rapper performed as part of the “Late Night in the Phog” preseason celebration, which follows scrimmages by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The 35-minute set Snoop brought to Allen Fieldhouse featured women on stripper poles doing what women do on stripper poles, along with shooting fake money into the crowd, and performing the unedited versions of his hit songs, like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin and Juice.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by snoopdogg (@snoopdogg) on Oct 4, 2019 at 10:07pm PDT The vulgarity of the show reportedly raised some eyebrows, which led to Kansas’ athletic director Jeff Long issuing a statement to the Kansas City Star . In the apology, he explains that the school expected a “clean version” of the performance from the legendary rapper. “We apologize to anyone who was offended by the Snoop Dogg performance at Late Night. We made it clear to the entertainers’ managers that we expected a clean version of the show and took additional steps to communicate to our fans, including moving the artist to the final act of the evening, to ensure that no basketball activities would be missed if anyone did not want to stay for his show,” the statement said. “I take full responsibility for not thoroughly vetting all the details of the performance and offer my personal apology to those who were offended. We strive to create a family atmosphere at Kansas and fell short of that this evening.” There’s no word on how the university and Snoop Dogg had such a different understanding of what the performance was supposed to be, but in Snoop’s defense, it’s easy to see why he might have thought a “Late Night” event was meant to push the envelope a little bit. In the video posted by the Long Beach native following his show, the crowd at Allen Fieldhouse seemed to be loving the performance as they lowdly cheered him on. After word of the controversy got out, Snoop brushed it off by sharing a short statement on Instagram which seems to be in response to those saying he did too much. “Thank. U for letting me be me. This is America,” he captioned the post. View this post on Instagram Thank. U for letting me be me . This is America A post shared by snoopdogg (@snoopdogg) on Oct 5, 2019 at 2:29pm PDT

Entrepreneur Creates ‘Raising Black Millionaires’ Flashcards To Teach Youth About Building Wealth

Original post:

R epresentation is everything. In an effort to teach children about the importance of entrepreneurship and building wealth, a Black-owned media company based in New Orleans created a flashcard game that highlights the journeys of Black millionaires and billionaires, the Chicago Defender reported. Each card includes the individual’s backstory and the awards and accomplishments that they’ve made throughout their careers. Entrepreneur Thiah Veona Muhammad , who created the cards, believed it was important for children to see examples of Black wealth outside of the entertainment and sports industries. “I think it’s imperative that we, as Black people, know who our millionaires and billionaires are, more specifically those who are in business and are non-entertainers/athletes,” Muhammad said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “Showing them real examples of people who look like them, making millions in various industries will not only help them to identify themselves as people of greatness, but it will introduce them to industries that they likely have never been exposed to before, giving them more career choices.” Amongst the business moguls featured in the deck are Janice Bryant Howroyd and Pamela J. Booker . She hopes that parents and educators will use the cards as a tool to educate and empower Black youth. This isn’t the first educational tool that Muhammad has created for African American parents and children. In 2015 she released a book titled How to Raise Your Black Child to Be a Millionaire: Child-rearing Secrets of the Black Elite and she also launched a blog that features lessons about financial literacy and wealth creation that can be implemented in the household and the classroom. The company also has a Raising Black Millionaires podcast where Muhammad leads candid conversations with African American millionaires on how their parents helped guide them towards success. Many Black entrepreneurs have created educational products to empower the youth. African American inventor Elliott Eddie created The Entrepreneur Game to teach children what goes into running a business. Not At All Baller: LaVar Ball Accused Of Pilfering $2.5M From Family Companies

Here is the original post:

Source: WENN.com / WENN LaVar Ball and his overbearing presence in directing the basketball careers of his three sons cast a shadow on their potential trajectory, although he managed to craft business deals with them in mind. Now, a former business partner is excusing the Ball family patriarch of embezzling funds from the family’s various business holdings. The Blast shares in a new report that Ball’s former business associate, Alan Foster, filed suit and alleged that the father of Lonzo, LiMelo, and LiAngelo Ball has been pilfering funds from the business to fund his own personal needs. Foster was a partner in the Big Baller Brand athletic brand, and the Ball Sports Group, a sports and entertainment company. From The Blast : According to Foster, “In early 2016, in furtherance of LaVar’s intense desire to share in, or rise above, the glory and spotlight of his sons, LaVar approached Alan and asked for his business guidance on how to monopolize and gain fortune and fame from the names and likenesses of his three sons. In response, Alan suggested that the two men brand the “Ball” family name in order to create basketball and entertainment-related businesses. LaVar loved Alan’s idea and wanted to make sure that he was the biggest star in the family, notwithstanding the fact that he was broke, had no savings, poor credit and zero business acumen.” “LaVar is a liar who fraudulently utilized BBB and BSG to fund his personal lifestyle,” the docs state. Lonzo Ball filed a suit against Foster, alleging that it was him that took money away from the Ball business for his own personal gains. — Photo: WENN
